Tesco's women's t shirt.

So doing a shop this morning I was walking past their women's clothing aisle and notice two t shirts prominantly displayed.

Nice material both white on one it said in bold red writing "fearless and feminine" the other it said "grateful".

Now I am no feminist and it takes a lot to offend me but those t shirts were a bit degrading to me, especially the grateful one as if to say the wearer would be grateful for anything.

Or am I over reacting?

I wouldn't buy a t shirt that said grateful because but it's hardly an offensive idea is it, to be grateful for stuff? Aren't most of us grateful for something?? I don't understand how you can be offended by someone feeling grateful for their life.

Fearless and feminine is also something naff but not offensive unless you assume they suggest that they're implying most fearless people aren't feminine or that feminine is bad. It's odd but I can't get offended by someone being both feminine and fearless.

The future is female is more offensive of any as what does that teach our sons

Maybe you are meant to wear the 'grateful' one with a massive diamond necklace?

Notevilstepmother · 04/08/2018 12:48

It’s probably for women who have “the children are making memories” pictures. #soblessed

QueenOfIce · 04/08/2018 12:52

They got it so wrong, it should have been #grateful

JessicaJonesJacket · 04/08/2018 12:56

It sounds as though they were trying to come up with a variation on 'blessed' so went for 'grateful'. I wouldn't extrapolate that it meant the wearer had poor boundaries or low expectations except in slogan t-shirts I'd think they were specifically grateful for certain aspects of their life or for being alive.
I wouldn't wear either of them but wouldn't see them as degrading. And I am a feminist.

KurriKurri · 04/08/2018 12:57

Is it really necessary to have your passing thoughts written on your clothes. 'Grateful' seems a bit pointless. So what - who cares?

Might just as well have 'need a wee'. 'wonder what I'll have for tea tonight?' or 'did I see cheaper T -shirts in ASDA?' on your top.

upsideup · 04/08/2018 13:14

Whats wrong with being grateful? I'm extremely grateful for everything I have.

WonderfulWonders · 04/08/2018 13:18

Revising my position on "fearless and feminine". They're designed for these chaps, just so we're clear they're ladeeez

I instantly thought grateful for life/health/things etc.

Lindalee3 · 04/08/2018 13:48

Yeah the messages (on the t-shirts) are condescending and naff.

I saw a man wearing a top that said I Love You the other day. DH and I both said aww how nice but I didn't get a view of the back. I still wonder if it said But Fuck Off.

Birdsgottafly · 04/08/2018 14:17

Well if a man decided that it was good enough and with you not being a Feminist, then you haven't got the right to question it.

You could email Tesco's CEO, but being a Woman, you possibly shouldn't think that you know better than he does.
