Husband is 40 next May and looking for some inspiration.

Erm... Went to work. Came home and ordered a takeaway. DS had bought me a sponge cake and put a candle in it. Watched Hot Fuzz. Early night.

Happyhippy45 · 03/08/2018 20:18

Had family over at the weekend closest to it for a BBQ.

NeverRed · 03/08/2018 20:19

Bbq in my back garden with friends and DH’s family.

HaveSomeGrace · 03/08/2018 20:19

@NotTheFordType

That’s the sort of thing I’d love for mine but my husband will want ‘something special’ 🤷🏽‍♀️

Not on my actual 40th but I went to an amazing concert.a band that I grew up loving and went to see when I was 16. Unforgettable :)

MayFayner · 03/08/2018 20:20

Crying on the sofa with reflux 4mo and screeching 18mo 😂😂

Had a garden bbq for my 41st 😊

PositiveVibez · 03/08/2018 20:20

Went for a meal to a country pub with close friends and family, then a get together at our house. Perfect.

icelollycraving · 03/08/2018 20:20

Had lunch in a private room at a restaurant with family. Everyone paid their own which was agreed in advance.

skunkatanka · 03/08/2018 20:21

Went to work. Came home. Felt like crap due to the total lack of interest from dh. Ate a bowl of cornflakes after he said "what do you want for dinner?" And then went to bed. It was a crap birthday. To be fair we were skint at the time but still- he had plenty of notice to save a few pennies (it is, after all, an annual event).
Sorry OP. I know this is not at all useful to you....

RJnomore1 · 03/08/2018 20:22

DH whisked me off to Rome. He organised the whole thing in secret even someone for the kids to stay with and booking my annual leave from work.

I'd highly recommend it 😬

TittyGolightly · 03/08/2018 20:25

3 week American road trip for a once in a lifetime event, long weekend in my most favourite country, boozy family brunch, disco trampolining, long weekend away with friends and their kids.

Epic.

TittyGolightly · 03/08/2018 20:25

Ooh, forgot city break and a rave.

2anddone · 03/08/2018 20:28

I had a birthday month!! 3 different meals out with different circles of family/friends. 2 concerts to my favourite bands. A weekend in London for west end live and finally a day at a spa. I loved it 😃

HaveSomeGrace · 03/08/2018 20:30

@skunkatanka

No but I can see why you felt racked off!

@PositiveVibez
@icelollycraving

These sound good ideas 👍🏻

Ran Tough Mudder then had a party.

MaMisled · 03/08/2018 20:32

Had 50 family, friends, babies, children and dogs pack up a picnic tea (August) and we met up in a remote field for 6 hrs of food, cake, rounders and fun. It was magical.

surlycurly · 03/08/2018 20:33

Stayed and ate in 'the witchery' in Edinburgh. So fancy 😉

Allthegoodusernamesaregonesad · 03/08/2018 20:33

Bbq with all my friends around and a couple of bouncy castles for us and old childhood games... Best night ever... Retro drinks etc... Vodka jelly shots etc

mum11970 · 03/08/2018 20:34

Nothing that I can remember off the top of my head so obviously wasn’t memorable.

LeavingTheSandBehind · 03/08/2018 20:34

Amazing 2 week road trip in Canada followed by a huge family dinner back at home. Then one more big drinks party with other family and friends. Perfect!

sockunicorn · 03/08/2018 20:35

went to vegas with DH (DCs went to MILs for a week), we went to see a show, had a VERY fancy dinner and got shitfaced :). spent the next 2 days by the pool sweating it out.

AliTheMinx · 03/08/2018 20:35

The weekend before my birthday, DH surprised me with a trip to see Strictly Come Dancing in London, which was amazing! We had a nice dinner before the show. On my actual birthday I took DS to school and then DH and I had a spa day (in the same place where we got engaged on my 30th birthday!). We then picked DS up from school, went for a nice (child friendly) early dinner, and came home. I had a glass or two of Prosecco and opened my cards and presents, and that was it. It was perfect. The day before they made a big fuss of me in work (card, present, desk-decorated, cakes, etc) and on the weekend after my birthday I had a nice dinner and cocktails with some close friends. I did consider a party briefly, but the idea of different lots of friends and family mixing wasn't overly appealing!

Bellabutterfly2016 · 03/08/2018 20:40

For my partners I booked tickets for a west end show and we had a nice meal and a night in a hotel - quite expensive but he liked it just hoping he does something nice for mine

ChuffinHell · 03/08/2018 20:41

Spent the day in Oncology clinic as DH had just been diagnosed with cancer.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/08/2018 20:42

Went to Butlins with DH and the DC (they were 6.6 and 4)

When we were packing , my vanity case got left behind so all my well chosen beauty treats (for my planned relax night in a bathroom that had a shower the size of an upended coffin ) had to be replaced by whatever I could buy from the local Tesco.

The DC enjoyed it though Grin
