Just that people think it’s the location or the cost you could literally have me at a 5 star hotel and it would not matter

I hate the heat
The packing
My husband swearing while he puts the tent up
The drive over
The drive back
The heat i it’s 38 here and I have been sick because twice it’s so hot
I just don’t enjoy going on holiday never have

I've holidayed all over but can safely say that our last holiday was the best. 3 hour drive to the seaside with our caravan. 2 weeks of lovely weather watching the dolphins whist sipping G&Ts - my idea of heaven!
Very relaxing even with our two Sen. teens.

I am so pleased to know I am not the only one.

Things I loathe about holidays:
*hours wasted on planning and preparation
*packing
*finding carers for the pets
*the travelling
*hotels/villas etc beds that are never as comfortable as mine
*other people/tourists
*packing at the other end and the huge washing pile afterwards
*the stress

I'm probably not explaining myself well but my idea of a holiday is getting away from other people. I love peace and quite but am ok with dipping into something busier like a pub, or activity. Hotels are my idea of hell - even 5 star ones . You can always hear other people when you're in bed. Even staying in a villa or remote house has enough stress attached that it takes away from the enjoyment.

I have tried to like holidaying for the sake of my children. But it's so bad that we barely manage a week away per year. We live in a "nice" area and many of the children had had two holidays over this summer alone, and it's not uncommon for kids to have 4 a year. Mine always feel like they are missing out. But my stress levels rise even thinking about a holiday.

I adore holidays . However, they are usually better if you have the money to pay for great accommodation.

I'm 50/50 on holidays. I've worked out that I enjoy a short break (3-4 nights) but anything over that I just get terribly homesick and don't enjoy it.

I will only book holidays where the average temp for that time is 18-25degrees. I hate being too hot. I also detest being cold. 22 degrees is my ideal temperature.

I don't like packing much but I just travel light now (think one rucksack each) and only pack the day before.

I don't enjoy travelling, but am prepared to suck it up. 4hrs max. Anything longer then upgrade to business/premium class. Definitely makes it easier.

We are going to try camping next year, but going all modcons. I will even be taking the tv (and staying within an hour's drive of home).

Work out what parts you enjoy, or at least don't mind too much, and works within those parameters.

I really don't understand how people can hate all holidays, I love them!

Love planning the holiday, researching
Love packing, even have some packing cubes (even my DP thinks I'm odd for enjoying this part)
Love seeing different places/doing different things, from scuba diving in Belize, to yoga in the Daintree rainforest, skiing, a cruise to new York, or driving down to Cornwall for a week of dog walking. Love them all Grin

I'd say you've not found the right holiday yet!
However if you really do hate it, stop going! Spend the money on something you would enjoy instead, let your partner go on their own

I love it. But only if staying in 5* hotels. If I can't afford that then I'd rather not go or go for less time.

Sparklyfee · 15/09/2018 11:43

I love holidays. But driving to France, camping??? No. Not for me.

I find that some people say they don't like holidays and then proceed to book the most "difficult" holiday they can. Like driving to another country and staying in a sweaty tent!

Next time, nice accommodation, easier travelling and a temperature you prefer! Sorted!

Sparklyfee · 15/09/2018 11:47

Just noticed you did a cruise as well. I tried and didn't like cruising! Difficult holidays involving ships and cars and tents.

Maybe give yourself a bit more freedom and a bigger sleeping space!

YANBU to hate heat, camping, long journeys and cruises but YABU to hate all holidays.

Would you be happier in an air conditioned hotel with all your meals provided? Do you like sightseeing trips or restful breaks? Is there a particular place that you’ve always wanted to visit?
