To think it's Shocking how many men cheat on their partners/wives

courgettebaby · 31/07/2018 10:57

Yes - I know women do it too but I feel like men do it so much more.

There's thousands of posts on here about men cheating/having full on affairs/ being on dating sites still. Are there ANY good men out there 😐

OP posts:
Mrsharrison · 31/07/2018 10:59

I'm not convinced men do it more. Women seem to cover their tracks better.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 31/07/2018 11:06

It's horribly common among both sexes.

When I was first dating in my twenties it was normal to be faithful. Now I'm in my 50s it seems to be normal to be unfaithful which is pretty much why I don't bother anymore. I'll be fucked if I'm sharing a lover with someone else.

Titsywoo · 31/07/2018 11:06

I don't know of any men in my friendship group who cheat apart from my friends husband who buggered off with someone else. Obviously loads of them could be but so could the women - no idea!

McT123 · 31/07/2018 11:09

Who are all these men cheating with if they do it much more than women? Or are there just a few incredibly industrious women handling the whole workload?

Daisymalone · 31/07/2018 11:10

About as surprising as the number of women who expect their Husbands to live in sexless marriages with the odd duty shag thrown in...

arethereanyleftatall · 31/07/2018 11:10

There must be the same amount?

worridmum · 31/07/2018 11:11

From people i know the females are doing it more out of the 12 people i know that have had or having affiar 9 of woman...

araiwa · 31/07/2018 11:15

Shocking? How can you be shocked by something when you dont know the numbers at all

KC225 · 31/07/2018 12:02

I am more by the sixth sense thread and the amount of men that turned out to be child abusers. Loads of them. Grim reading.

I can't get worked up about affairs - unless was my DH and then I'd -

slovenlys · 31/07/2018 12:13

I'm no longer shocked tbh. I have lost all faith in men from finding out about so many. Ex-dp, brother, brother in law. All the men closest to me. Funnily enough I don't know of any women who have although I came close

I just think it's so much easier nowadays. And everything, from relationships to bloody kitchen appliances are 'throwaway' now. PFFFT

HowIWishYouWereHere · 31/07/2018 12:17

It is horribly common.

My granny shocked us all once, when we were talking about my (idiot) brother leaving his wife and very young babies for an OW. My dad said, “I’ve never known anyone to do this with such a young family. I mean, I’ve heard of people having affairs, but not leaving their children when they’re so young”. 93yo granny pipes up with “oh affairs - EVERYONE has affairs” Shock!

sonjadog · 31/07/2018 12:18

I think the poster who said women are better at covering their tracks is exactly right.

HowIWishYouWereHere · 31/07/2018 12:18

That’s horrible KC. I did not have a sixth sense for a man who I really liked and it turned out he had lots of child sex abuse images on his laptop. He was reported for it and I found out about it that way. I always thought I was a good judge of character, so I was really shocked.

PinkHeart5914 · 31/07/2018 12:18

Men do it more? but many will be cheating with another woman and you know not all them women will be single right? I mean they aren’t cheating with themselves are they now.

Yes you read a lot of cheating dh posts on here but most members on here are female so that’s kind of expected really due to a high volume of female posters? No doubt if this was a forum with more men posters you’d read a lot from that as well

Some men and women just can’t stop shagging anything with a pulse, not sure it’s shocking though

POPholditdown · 31/07/2018 12:21

I don’t think MN is representative of the real world with some topics OP.

I know a lot of women who have the ‘typical male’ traits that are posted about on MN, be it cheating, financial control, gaslighting. (Myself included with one in particular)

I just don’t think as many men will post on here about their wives/gf cheating.

POPholditdown · 31/07/2018 12:27

It’s also worth noting, when women post a thread about cheating themselves, a lot of other posters say they are in the same boat as the OP in support but IME these threads don’t get as much traffic as male cheating ones, so they’ll get missed.

Toodlepip14 · 31/07/2018 12:31

Probably because more women use mumsnet that it seems this way

HowIWishYouWereHere · 31/07/2018 12:32

True POP. It’s a brave woman who admits she’s having an affair on AIBU though...!

I probably do know of more men having affairs than women irl though. Or as pp says, women hide it better 🤷‍♀️.

Notquiteagandt · 31/07/2018 12:33

Theres bound to be 1000s post on here about cheating men. As the vast majority of users here are hetrosexual females.

Im sure if their was a male equivilent there would be loads of posts about cheating women.

My personal experience of this is that it has happened in about 30% of the relationships amongst people I personally know (family and friends) and that specifically amongst my friends only two people have cheated and both of those were female. My own personal experience is that I was cheated on by my BF in a long term relationship, and that my DH had an 'emotional affair' 7 years ago, which as far as I know has never been repeated. Of my friends I don't know of any husbands who have cheated and I genuinely don't believe they would. Particularly one of them who is so lovely I use him as a yard stick for behaviour from which all other men could learn a thing or two.

I personally would never cheat. I would end a relationship if I wasn't happy first before meeting someone new. I couldn't do it.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 31/07/2018 12:49

I think its human nature. Monogamy for life is not natural.

wafflyversatile · 31/07/2018 12:52

People rarely start threads to tell us their husband aren't cheating! It's going to look skewed.

echt · 31/07/2018 13:00

If men do it more it's because across the age range they can appeal to, they have greater traction, i.e. can get to fuck women way younger than themselves. Women don't have that same range.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 31/07/2018 13:02

Not sure we are meant to be monogamous maybe go through periods of our life when we are but affairs have always happened

I think men probably do have more affairs or sex outside their relationships this is why there is a high number of sex workers but I think women are probably more discreet
