Can’t get a taxi in Barcelona

Can anyone else not get a taxi in Barcelona? I’m currently on track to miss my flight for a second time! Not sure if they will change the times for free for me again...I just want to cry, I’ve been here since Friday.

Do they have Uber? Or public transport?

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/07/2018 04:36

Spain has the worst cabs I've ever experienced. Thanks

ManyCrisps · 29/07/2018 04:43

Get a bus or the metro then rather than waste time on here I believe there are protests involving taxi drivers and Uber.

OneThreadOnly0101 · 29/07/2018 04:44

Barcelona taxis are on strike (again) and uber and cabify I believe suspended services due to protest violence. You'll have to use public transport and for that leave plenty of time as everyone will be in the same position. Were you not aware of the strike? No warning or advice from hotel? No road closures/protests/10 mile bus queues?

ExFury · 29/07/2018 04:44

The taxis are on strike again. It’s a common issue in Barcelona atm.

Can you not get to the airport by train, metro or bus? It’s pretty well connected.

LadyOdd · 29/07/2018 05:22

My flight is at 6.30, I’m at a friends house as I was traveling from elsewhere in Spain to get a flight from Barcelona. I didn’t want to take the nite bus or metro at 4/5am as I have a young baby so I thought if I got an early flight (after the strike finished on the 27 which they have continued) I would be fine.

If it was just me I would have been okay probs would have just hung out at the airport about midnight until the morning but after missing my flight the first time and having to do public transport (metro, three buses) to get to family friends house, I’m wary of taking the baby out on the arse end of Saturday night.

Can you ask someone to drop you off at the airport? Your friend must know someone with a car, surely. Or are the roads blocked too?
How far from the airport are you?

LadyOdd · 29/07/2018 05:31

I’ve definitely missed this flight but I will try to get a later one, my friend is going to ask around and see if anyone can take me in the evening and I’ve asked my other friend if he knows anyone I’m just a bit put out I think.

Quite far from the airport took me two hours to get here on public transport late at night on Friday, a bit scary with a suitcase, baby and not knowing the area but everyone was lovely but it was 1am then not sure about 4am.

Sorry to be a drama llama think I’m just a bit disheartened by the whole thing.

I doubt they have the same strike laws in Spain as we do in Britain, as its a different country. Our strikes have to abide by strict rules. Theirs don't.

Pengggwn · 29/07/2018 08:04

Aren't cab drivers in Britain self-employed? I'm not sure the strike laws are that strict that they could be pressed into work!

I'm being the devil's advocate on this - I've hardly met a nice taxi driver since I moved to the south east...

AmayaBuzzbee · 29/07/2018 08:10

If you are going in the evening, then just get the train. It is very easy as far as I can remember, and gets you directly to the airport.

Justanotheruser01 · 29/07/2018 08:34

Cant remember ins and outs but i found it very easy to get from las ramblas to the airport they have a great airport bus im sure it was a underground ride to the university and we got it from there

ExFury · 29/07/2018 09:36

Your other choice is to look online at one of the airport transfer companies. They’re dearer than taxis, but doubt they’re on strike

MarthasGinYard · 29/07/2018 09:37

I always get the train thingy.

Easy

SchrodingersMeowth · 29/07/2018 09:43

Try getting your next flight from Reus instead? It’s the Salou area (Catalonia) so might not be on strike? Might have different flight times? You can get a train or bus to Salou from Barcelona, think it takes about 45 mins - hour.

CheekyRedhead · 29/07/2018 12:07

Surely you knew after missing one flight that you should leave early for the second? Can't you hire a car? Get a train? Trains are great in Spain

LadyOdd · 29/07/2018 19:35

I’ve re scheduled for tomorrow night so will have time to do bus and metro. Strike still on as far as I know 25% of flights cancelled.

OP posts:
LadyOdd · 29/07/2018 19:35

I didn’t know you could fly from reus never been but thought it was a small place.

OP posts:
LadyOdd · 29/07/2018 19:36

I left early for both 5 hours for the first and up at 4am for the second.

You need to get a grip and get on public transport are you normally this helpless?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 29/07/2018 19:42

I've always got the train from the airport. Do that!

LadyOdd · 30/07/2018 00:53

I was going to the airport, because of the taxi strike the buses and metro/ticket office were jam packed...I left with adequate time (I didn’t know about the strike before hand only the airline one which meant that my flight was changed) etc. I didn’t realize that getting to my mums friends house in a city I’ve never been too traveling on the metro twice and taking three night buses with a baby, suitcase and hand luggage made me helpless...

LadyOdd · 30/07/2018 00:54

Anyway where is all the love for the taxi drivers who put two Uber drivers in hospital?
