I need to learn to drive. I think its my only option as getting out is too difficult without driving. How long did it take you to learn to drive?

20 hours of lessons with my parents taking me out a bit too.

formerbabe · 27/07/2018 19:31

Only 5 years and about 100 lessons. Took theory test twice and practical 3 times Blush

Andro · 27/07/2018 19:32

1-week intensive course, first time pass but wouldn't recommend it.

roratone · 27/07/2018 19:35

About 25 lessons. Passed both theory and practical 1st time. Almost 20 years ago. Blimey Confused

WarPigeon · 27/07/2018 19:39

Lots of hours driving with my father and brother, and about 15 minutes with my mother before a screaming match ensued.

Do you have family nearby that could put your on their insurance, and take a few lessons as well?

WarPigeon · 27/07/2018 19:39

You ^

Unfinishedkitchen · 27/07/2018 19:40

Failed three tests before I found the perfect driving instructor for me. I was a nervous driver but rather than being grumpy and irritated, he really made me feel confident. Finally past on fourth go. Must have spent hundreds on lessons though.

Pingipinguin · 27/07/2018 19:41

9 and a half months every week.
Everyone I know also took around the same time.

HairyToity · 27/07/2018 19:43

A year and about 50 lessons. Blush

Beautifulblue · 27/07/2018 19:44

4 months 1-2 hours a week & being taken out by my parents! They really helped Smile

Duchessgummybuns · 27/07/2018 19:44

A year with lessons most weeks... I was terribly anxious and a very nervous learner.

Been driving 9 years now and I dgaf 😎 nyoom!

HardAsSnails · 27/07/2018 19:45

Just over 4 months from start to passing test first time, paid for 10 hours of lessons at a time every payday, so had 5 x 2 hour lessons a month. Had never driven before, only drove in lessons and do have some coordination problems.

crazycatgal · 27/07/2018 19:45

9 months with a lesson a week. I started with one instructor and changed after around 6 weeks.

LEELULUMPKIN · 27/07/2018 19:46

10 lessons. Two a week for 5 weeks. Passed first time.

Butterflykissess · 27/07/2018 19:46

My sister drives but I dont think she will trust me in her car. Other than that no one else that drives. Both my parents dont. Just need to be driving asap.

10 years. In the end went automatic and never looked back. I have passed and love driving now.

blinkineckmum · 27/07/2018 19:48

A year.

happinessiseggshaped · 27/07/2018 19:49

About 11 months, I think about 30 lessons. I did have to change driving instructor half way through though as the first one was useless so probably had a bit of a gap in the middle.

Quickest way to do it is an intensive course. But the more experience you have the safer you are really.

tigercub50 · 27/07/2018 19:51

Years but it wasn’t constant. I passed 5th time! I started at 17 & passed at 24.

FatCow2018 · 27/07/2018 19:51

DH bought me a car on 1st Jan. Made me drive everywhere we went. Did this, and had 2 proper lessons to learn manoeuvres the way they want you to do them on the test. Took test on 14th April and passed 1st time.

My38274thNameChange · 27/07/2018 19:51

3 months to pass my test which was probably around 40 driving hours.

Took me another year after that to learn how to drive properly though!

Spanglybangles · 27/07/2018 19:52

7-8 months with weekly lessons, sometimes 2 hour lessons. Also went out with my dad in my car (I bought it before taking any lessons as an incentive to learn as soon as possible). Failed first test but immediately rebooked to do it in my own car and passed a couple of weeks later (didn’t want to have to take any more lessons). This was 14 years ago now.

LaceandChintz · 27/07/2018 19:55

5 months. About 20 professional lessons plus practice with the parents at any opportunity. Passed 1st time, age 17 and 5 months Smile

choccybiscuit · 27/07/2018 19:57

One year. Passes my theory and driving test first time

WhirlwindHugs · 27/07/2018 20:03

5 months, I have an auto license. That was 3-4 hrs of lessons a week plus trying to spend an hour or two driving a friend around as well (I took them to various shops! Got lots of bay parking practice!)
