Shaving Leg Hair

blackbirdbluebottle · 19/07/2018 12:12

I shaved my legs a few weeks ago and the hairs are growing back. I’m wearing shorts everyday in the heat. AIBU to not shave my legs? I don’t understand why women have to shave their leg hairs and get mocked for not shaving

Lucky you, my hair starts growing back within the day.

blackbirdbluebottle · 19/07/2018 12:15

Within the day? Oh wow

I guess it's your choice, you don't have to shave!

Vashna · 19/07/2018 12:16

Well if you don’t understand blackbird, don’t do it? Only do something if it makes you feel better about yourself or you understand it .

WitchettyGrub · 19/07/2018 12:16

A few weeks? I would look like a yeti if I left mine that long, they need doing daily

Minisoksmakehardwork · 19/07/2018 12:17

Yanbu. I prefer my legs shaven. But I am very hirsute and as pp I can feel it within a day.

However for most society dictates clean shaven legs for preference. So it's up to you whether you shave and have some comebacks ready for the people who comment. Or bow down to society's demands and shave as soon as you can see hair again.

Chelseajunior · 19/07/2018 12:17

If I shave mine in the morning, they will be prickly by the evening Confused

blackbirdbluebottle · 19/07/2018 12:17

I get lots of weird looks for not shaving my legs but then men can walk around with unshaven legs it just seems unfair

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 19/07/2018 12:18

Shock mine grows back within a day too! I shave every other day.

maxthemartian · 19/07/2018 12:19

You're right it is unfair. I never bother unless I have leg showing. And even then I'm doing it to conform not because I really want to.
So good for you if you're braver than me!

FlyingElbows · 19/07/2018 12:20

Within the day here too. I've got a bit of a new hobby of tweezing my leg hair when I'm watching the TV. Based on the results of that I might be tempted to try waxing or epilating because shaving is miserable.

Readyfortheschoolhols · 19/07/2018 12:21

Are there Sasqwatches on mn??!

handslikecowstits · 19/07/2018 12:24

I don't shave mine. So over all that malarky now.

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2018 12:24

I epilate from time to time, sometimes not doing it for months. The regrowth is fine, soft and downy. I'm very fair so you can't even see it. I don't intend to shave again.

hammeringinmyhead · 19/07/2018 12:27

Weeks! If I only had to do it that often I would as it takes me 30 seconds. I stop just above the knee though.

BlooBagoo · 19/07/2018 12:27

I got a large lower leg tattoo not too long ago and couldn't shave the area so just left both legs to go wild. Even despite dark hair and very quick regrowth, no-one has said a thing to me or even looked at my legs other than to see my tattoo and I've been in shorts or skirts almost every day.

AmericanEskimoDoge · 19/07/2018 12:30

It can sometimes be annoying to "have" to keep them shaven (I'm another who needs to do it daily or I start to get prickly), but if I use a decent razor it doesn't take more than a minute or two to do it in the shower. I do it while waiting for my hair conditioner to do its work.

(I also need to wash my hair every day to keep it looking presentable. Washing my hair is far more time-consuming than shaving my legs, unfortunately...)

If you're comfortable not shaving, don't do it. I'm not sure how likely it is that someone will actually say something to you about it... It's no-one's business.

M3lon · 19/07/2018 13:18

american are you SURE you have to wash your hair every day to look presentable? Have you tried not covering it with grease (conditioner) after you've washed it?

I only mention this because I was also trained to wash my hair everyday and eventually discovered that if I don't wash it everyday and don't put conditioner on it then it will look just fine for at least 4 days...maybe 3 when its so hot and sweaty.

OP you definitely don't need to shave your legs. I don't and I wear shorts and I don't care. People sometimes double take but then they get over it.

hungryhippie · 19/07/2018 13:20

yanbu
If you dont want to do it, then dont. People mostly dont notice.
I do mine a couple of times a year at the most.

RamblingFar · 19/07/2018 13:23

I don't bother shaving mine.

Icouldbehappy · 19/07/2018 13:24

I prefer my legs to be smooth so I shave them every couple of days. Sorry but I think hairy legs on women looks gross. If you like that look though, fine.
By the same token, I’d find it strange to see a man with shaved legs.

Bambamber · 19/07/2018 13:29

I only shave my legs when I can be bothered, which isn't that often to be honest. The only other person that gets close enough to my legs to notice they're hairy is my husband and he knows better than to complain. Most people won't notice unless they're visibly hair like a man's, and even if they did notice, who cares?

BillywigSting · 19/07/2018 13:31

american pp might be right.

I thought I had to wash my hair every day until I stopped using conditioner (except for a tiny bit on the very ends when it needs cutting) and now only need to wash it twice a week if I keep it off my face, three times a week if I wear it down or it's especially hot.

Op, you are 100% it's not fair. Not one bit.

It's entirely up to you whether or not you shave your legs.

I personally only shave mine if I'm wearing a skirt or dress that doesn't come down to the ground. I do it purely to be socially acceptable. I wouldn't if I didn't feel like I had too.

I almost never shave my armpits either for that matter, but then they're also very rarely on show.

I'm full yeti in winter. Also am stubbly within a day.

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/07/2018 13:34

Is it the feel or the look that makes everyone shave so frequently?

I'm another one who can feel stubble the day after shaving, but the hair doesn't really become visible to onlookers for a couple of weeks. I tend to shave fairly frequently because I like the feel of smooth legs, but could get away with a lot less if I didn't mind legs the texture of a matchbox.

ACurlyWurly · 19/07/2018 13:53

I have to wash my hair every day (despite trying every shampoo I can lay my hands on and never using conditioner) as if I don't it looks filthy but my hair is very fine and dead straight.
I also have to shave my legs every day as that is very thick and fast growing. If I want to be hair free for an evening function and i have already shaved in the morning I genuinely have to shave again before I go out as it is visible.

Winter is better as I don't bother as often when I am in trousers or tights, but my leg hair actually pokes through the 70 denier jobs after a week! I am a hairy beastie!

Armpits are an every 3 day job Smile

Now if i can swap and have thick fast growing head hair and thin slow leg hair I will have cracked it.
