Shaving Leg Hair

blackbirdbluebottle · 19/07/2018 12:12

I shaved my legs a few weeks ago and the hairs are growing back. I’m wearing shorts everyday in the heat. AIBU to not shave my legs? I don’t understand why women have to shave their leg hairs and get mocked for not shaving

Noone has to shave their legs. What are you all doing that people notice your legs so much??

Most people I interact with on a daily basis look at my face, not my legs. They could tell my legs are hairy if they looked, but generally they don't. At least not as far as I can tell. Do you all go around staring at other peoples legs??

ACurlyWurly · 19/07/2018 14:00

I never notice other peoples but always notice my own, so I do it for me. If it didn't bother me then I would let it grow.

I am fortunate enough to not have hairy legs. My mum told me yrs ago that as they were so unhairy, I would probably get away with not shaving if I never started. I was about 17 then and I'm now 50+. It was great advice and no one has ever commented on the v.few blond hairs on my legs.

As regards other shaving, I am also quite fortunate, but do some shaving. I hold the view that Brazilian type shaving is utterly eeewww and that blokes shaving chest hair is a mega turn off. Also, it's fashion as well as body tyranny and it's going to go out of fashion one day.

I shave my legs as I prefer smooth legs but both my daughters don't and haven't done for several years. Its about what you prefer.

OneStepSideways · 19/07/2018 14:16

Perhaps it's social conditioning, but I feel shocked when I see a woman in shorts with hairy legs. It's unfair I agree.

Ive actually never seen women with hairy legsShock
. I wish I had the confidence not to shave. It’s an absolute nightmare for me as I’ve always suffered from ingrown hairs. Now after years of shaving waxing and epilating I’ve decided to have laser hair removal at age 40.

Imchlibob · 19/07/2018 14:25

Ignore the weird looks. Everyone who judges a woman for not shaving is sexist and misogynistic and dies not deserve a moment of your concern. Decent people don't give a toss what someone else does with their body.

Imchlibob · 19/07/2018 14:26

dies = does

I remember my father always referring to a neighbour as Mrs Hairy Legs. This seemed deeply unfair to me, as not only did he not bother shaving his legs, but neither did my mum as she simply wasn't noticeably hairy. I shaved my legs last week and probably won't bother again for a few weeks longer, It's blond and not thick. I say 'shave' - I don't even own a razor. I'll put some kind of smelly cream on them when I can remember to buy some. I used up last year's tube the last time I had a go at them. It's quite a tedious chore and I wouldn't bother if I didn't get sudden impulses to conform. I don't wear trousers much and my lower legs are on show a lot in warm weather.

NorbertTheDragon · 19/07/2018 14:35

Does that mean I am a man too? I shaved my legs on the 7th (I was going on a night out so remember the date) and haven't shaved them since, and I have the tiniest amount of stubble at the moment. The backs of my calves still feel smooth!

Obviously I'm lucky I don't get immediate regrowth, and that's why I don't bother shaving that much. I have gone for a whole summer not shaving and bugger what anyone else thinks, it's my body. I didn't see anyone recoil in horror, but then I'm pretty oblivious to those around me.

If you don't want to shave, don't shave!

NordicNobody · 19/07/2018 14:55

I stopped shaving my legs a few months ago after my pregnant belly got so big it was hard to see/ reach them. My original plan was to leave them right to the last minute, then get a wax (like I did with my last pregnancy). But now I'm a few months in the hair has got past the stubbly stage and is quite soft. It was itchy at first but now it doesn't bother me. Waxing is painful and expensive. Why should I do something painful and expensive to change a natural part of my body that isn't even bothering me? Answer: I shouldn't. Can't believe it's taken me 30 years to figure that one out. If anyone wants to pass judgement on my long black leg hair they are welcome. Not a single fuck shall be given.

itsallgravybaby · 19/07/2018 15:14

I'm also a yeti and leg hairs go stubbly within about 18 hours ha

I've invested in a lumea IPL thingy so hoping it will help! Only don't one treatment so far though so I'll be a yeti a while longer Grin

runningkeenster · 19/07/2018 15:19

I find it annoying too that I have to do it to be socially acceptable but I only need to do mine twice a week.

But I don't like armpit hair at all, on men or women. Though I'd find it weird if a man shaved it off but I don't like it just the same!

And I don't like men with facial hair either. So I can't really complain about people who don't like leg hair.

Offler · 19/07/2018 15:23

Never shaved my legs and only wash my hair once a week too, and that’s with smothering it in conditioner.

leg hair very blonde, head hair very curly

DuchessAnnogovia · 19/07/2018 15:25

A few weeks in between shaves? I bloody wish it was like that for me. If I left it a few weeks, I'd need a strimmer to attack the hairs before I even attempted to get a razor out x

INeedMoreCakeInMyLife · 19/07/2018 15:26

A day or two here too. Altho the other week I was wearing some of those patterned trousers.. As couldn't be arsed to shave.
The temp got to 29 and when I popped home I changed to shorts. And didnt give a toss that I was hairy lol.. As I was so hot..

Littledidsheknow · 19/07/2018 15:38

I haven't shaved anything for weeks. Don't care. Will probably do my armpits today because it's hot and I'm sweaty. Legs and swimsuit escapees next week for my holidays.

A pp above said they'd never seen hairy legs on a woman; I think it's more a case that you just don't notice.
