Call 111, they will tell you.
Asking for that kind of advice on an internet forum is bananas.

OrgyOfBarminess · 18/07/2018 17:04

I wouldn't tbh just to be on the safe side.

hairnightmare17 · 18/07/2018 17:36

I know it's bananas but thought I would ask anyway. Am probably not going to drink anyway. As I'll probably end up too scared. Pretty sure 111 would tell me not to have a drink.

I can feel the Valium leaving my system now but it's s slightly there. I think the effects only last 4 hours.

They'll tell you not to drink with good reason. Valium has a really long half life for a drug and will be significantly in your system (therefore reactive to alcohol) for around 24 hours. It can show up on a drugs test for days afterwards. I don't like giving out any sort of advice regarding medication on an internet forum but you should be very very careful drinking so soon after taking it.

iwishicouldbelikedavidwatts · 18/07/2018 17:55

agree with anastasia, out of all the benzo drugs diazepam has one of the the longer half-lives. much longer than the physical effect you're aware of. mixing with alcohol can lead to a combined depressive effect on the respiratory system. in high doses this can be fatal. in lower doses it can mean that one drink hits you more like 4 - it really does impact on alcohol tolerance.

VladmirsPoutine · 18/07/2018 18:00

If someone says "Yes! I had 4 vodka cocktails when I was off my tits on Valium" would you go ahead? Confused

iwishicouldbelikedavidwatts · 18/07/2018 18:02

i can relate some stories if op wants a proper warning off :D

Hawkie · 18/07/2018 18:02

111 are going to tell you not to. Don't waste a 111 call handlers time. The advice is on the box and in the leaflet.

Storm4star · 18/07/2018 18:29

It is only 2mg taken several hours before. A glass or two wouldn't hurt. I've taken 10mg on boarding a plane (to help me sleep) followed by several wines (in the air where it's supposed to hit you harder) and still struggled to sleep! 2mg is nothing.

Hawkie · 18/07/2018 18:31

"I did it and was fine so it won't hurt you"

Worst advice on mumsnet.

hairnightmare17 · 18/07/2018 18:40

I know it was a daft question and did think it was before I asked but thought what the hell.

I won't be drinking tonight! However, am going to the launch of a new restaurant tomorrow evening where everything is free....will I be ok then?!!!!

OP posts:
CrispbuttyNo1 · 18/07/2018 18:42

I would and have. I had no ill effects. Plenty people take a diazepam before a flight and have a drink on the plane.

Your decision though obviously.

iwishicouldbelikedavidwatts · 18/07/2018 18:45

you should be fine tomorrow evening nightmare :)

storm4 go you \o/ and that's advice?

Storm4star · 18/07/2018 18:53

As crispbutty said, many people do it on a flight, I won't have been the only one. Yes it's still my advice as its 2mg! As doses go, it really is nothing,

Storm4star · 18/07/2018 19:00

FWIW, if OP said she planned to go for an all night drinking session in town then my advice would be different. But she'll be at home, with friends. If she has one glass and feels woozy she can stop. She's perfectly safe. In that context of that situation and the low dose, then yes I think a "glass or two" is fine.

as doses go it's impossible to take your personal experience and extrapolate it to someone you've never met on the internet.

hth

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 18/07/2018 19:15

Half life is hugely dependant on age, metabolism, body mass, liver condition. To the extent that tkt say "wow I've done it and been fine" is just meaningless. I will never ever advice someone to play that kind of Russian roulette on an internet forum.
I've taken about every drug under the sun in my crazy yoot and some very dicey combinations therein, however, as with everyone else's, my personal experiences have no bearing whatsoever on the OP as they are not controlled experiences. It's like saying "yeah I walked out into the road and didn't get run over", when your road is a quiet country lane and theirs is the M25.

ConfusedWife1234 · 18/07/2018 19:42

Totally agree with Anastasia. It is like playing Russian roulette.

Storm4star · 18/07/2018 21:13

2mg - Russian roulette 😂😂😂

Hoopaloop · 18/07/2018 21:29

Matey off the forum thinks nothing of necking anything that ends in pam, washed down with his own homebrew. Where's the kid while all this is going on though???

bugmummeh · 18/07/2018 21:49

crikey! Confused

endofthelinefinally · 18/07/2018 21:52

Valium is a very dangerous drug.
Ok you have only had a small dose, but I would never encourage anyone to mix it with anything else.
My ds died because of it.

iwishicouldbelikedavidwatts · 18/07/2018 22:14

so sorry about your son endoftheline x is it something it helps to talk about?
