"I will slit your dogs throat"...

Me, DP and 2 dogs went to an agricultural show today (very common in the summer in this part of the UK!

Lots of horses, sheep, goats, cows, kids rides, raffles, stalls and some dog show competitions (for fun - waggiest tail etc).

We were walking around the part where the cows were being kept, but keeping a fair distance (maybe 5 - 6 meters) so as not to scare the cows or the dogs. Both dogs were on leads, minding their own business (snuggling through the grass for dropped food from the various burger vans!!!!).

Some dogs that were in with the cows (so I assume farm dogs) started barking at my two, who barely glanced up and went back to snuggling. The farm dogs carried on barking as we carried on walking when one of the farmers suddenly yelled "GET THOSE FUCKING DOGS AWAY BEFORE I SLIT THEIR THROATS".

As I said before, the dogs weren't doing much of anything, weren't bothering the cows etc and dogs were allowed in this section as long as they were on leads and behaving, which they were.

I was so taken a back that I froze, and DP told him to fuck off and carried on walking. I then followed like a mute sheep and have now seethed about it all day.

AIBU to think 1. Who the hell says that to somebody and 2. To ask what you would have done?!

Snuggling should have been snuffling!!!

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 14/07/2018 21:52

I would have told him to try it.

The silly little twat.

LadyGrey66 · 14/07/2018 21:53

Are you sure the farmer was talking to you OP? Reading your post makes me think that the dogs in with the cows had got loose, and it's them he was referring to?

Rudgie47 · 14/07/2018 21:54

Report it to the Police and to the people who organized the show. Say you felt very threatened and are very upset.

Hamandcheesebaguette · 14/07/2018 21:55

Yes it was definitely to us! He was sat on a chair in the cow enclosure bit with his dogs at his feet and we were the only people with dogs in the immediate vicinity (though lots of other dogs further down at the highland coos!!)

MsHomeSlice · 14/07/2018 21:55

were you in charge of the dogs?...I'd lay money he didn't even clock your dh until he told him to fuck off

some prick trying to be big in front of a crowd no doubts.

You won't be the only one to have heard him so people will be looking at him in a new light.

confusedandemployed · 14/07/2018 21:55

Your DH had the right idea. Tell him to fuck off, walk on and don't waste any more head space on the twat

NewYearNewMe18 · 14/07/2018 21:56

Report it to the Police

Don't you think they have enough to do ?

DopeyDazy · 14/07/2018 21:57

pour your DH a big drink tonight

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 14/07/2018 21:58

I’d maybe report it to the organisers, but I think your DP handled it well.

DearMrDilkington · 14/07/2018 21:59

THS? Grin

It's always a nightmare there.

ScreamingValenta · 14/07/2018 22:00

Can you complain to the organisers of the show? It might not achieve anything, but you'd feel you had done something.

Hamandcheesebaguette · 14/07/2018 22:01

Yes, I did have both the dogs actually... DP was being macho eating his whippy ice cream with raspberry sauce so didn't have a free hand Grin and he was meandering slightly behind marvelling at the size of the cows testicles

OP posts:
DancingLedge · 14/07/2018 22:05

Message for your DH

  • they weren't cows.
Also his response was to the point.
alwaysstressed · 14/07/2018 22:05

Did this agricultural show happen to be in Dalkeith by any chance?

reallyanotherone · 14/07/2018 22:08

and he was meandering slightly behind marvelling at the size of the cows testicles

Your dh may need some lessons on animal reproductive anatomy Grin

Hamandcheesebaguette · 14/07/2018 22:10

Oh yes... good point Grin the bulls!!!!

As an aside, I only found out about 4 years ago that bulls were the male "cows" and that they weren't a completely different species... Blush

Not Dalkeith... about 100 miles north!!

Suppose I could email the organisers and then get over it. It's such a disgusting thing to say. I wouldn't have been so mad if he'd have said "or I'll kill them" (although would have still been fuming). It was just so... violent and unnecessary

OP posts:
counterpoint · 14/07/2018 22:12

Definitely report the guy to the organisers. Too many aggressive farmers who think they can do what they like.

Pause3FuhFuh · 14/07/2018 22:13

Report it to the police 😂😂😂 wtf planet are you on? No wonder the police are stretched if you report every trivial thing to them. Will you report me for saying this to you?

OP - I'm not surprised you feel this way, there was no need for his behaviour. I would complain to the organisers.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 14/07/2018 22:16

Yes it's not pleasant... Typical dickish type of farmer you sometimes come across....

I'm not sure what the organisers would /could do...

Rudgie47 · 14/07/2018 22:24

Its a nasty threat actually and yes I would report it to the Police on the non emergency number. Its an offence to make violent threats in public.
If someone threatened to slit your throat you'd be ringing them fast enough.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 14/07/2018 22:29

He'd probably been up since 5am and done what most people would consider a days work before even getting to the show.
Yes it's aggressive but your dogs were obviously a problem whatever you think.
To be fair not an adult knowing the difference between cows and bulls says it all. I wouldn't bother complaining. Your DH swore back, it's over.
Yes it was aggressive but maybe the bull had reacted and stood on him or something.

Topseyt · 14/07/2018 22:40

Some arsehole on a massive ego trip I would bet. If your DH was a little way behind then he might not have realised you were together, so tried it on with you thinking you were a woman on your own. There's no excuse for that. It is an attempt to intimidate. Your DH gave just the right response.

Was there anything about him or the cows he was looking after that could identify who he was to the organisers if you email them (which I would definitely do, by the way).

VetOnCall · 14/07/2018 22:57

Jesus Shock I would have reported him to the stewards, after I'd told him to come right over and have a fucking try. I'm very non-confrontational and it's like water off a duck's back if anyone says anything to/about me, but my dogs are a different matter. I'd do time for any fucker who threatened them let alone laid a finger on them. FWIW I've been to a lot of events like that in a personal and professional capacity, and have always taken at least one of my dogs, so I know the kind of set-up you mean, what an utter arsehole (him, not you).

73kittycat73 · 14/07/2018 23:12

the cows testicles

Aren't they called bulls? Wink
Anyway, I'd do what others have suggested and tell the organizers.
