To not expect Cerazette to be doing this to me?

Posting here rather than health for traffic.

I'm on month two of taking Cerazette contraceptive mini pill. On the first month I started a period on day 12 and it lasted for a reasonable 4 days. So far so good.

Month two and I started a period 21 days after the last one ended. It went on for 5 days and then finished for 4 days before starting up again with the same level of intensity. I'm now on day 6 and it's showing no signs of stopping. Where's it all coming from?

Is this normal?! I've heard that your body can take up to three months to get used to the pill but I'm not keen on it if this is what's going to be happening to me.

Also going through a difficult time at home and not sure if that's why my mood is a bit off or if Cerazette is causing that too as I seem low.

Anyone else experienced this?

It's really normal, I had some stop-start weirdness on cerelle (same as cerazette) at first but have been on it for 2 years and now only have very light periods every few months. It settled down after three months or so, so give it a bit longer for your body to get used to it.

Liverbird77 · 14/07/2018 14:01

I had a continuous bleed for ages when I first started with it. This eventually stopped then there was no more. Also, conceived within 8 months of coning off it, but j know others have had issues.

divadee · 14/07/2018 14:11

I persevered for about 8 months on it and had to admit defeat. Its an amazing contraceptive as I couldn't have any sex cos I was bleeding all the time.

nancybelle · 14/07/2018 14:58

I was on cerazette for nearly 6 years and it took a few months for my periods to stop but they we’re very light on cerazette which was amazing after having very heavy ones. Hell has kicked in since I came off it a few months ago. Very very heavy periods, West one lasting nearly 3 weeks, 2nd one over 2 weeks and now on day 5 of my 3rd one. Everyone is different but it can take quite a while to settle on cerazette.

Randomuser789 · 14/07/2018 15:06

I started cerazette 4 strips ago, I haven’t had a bleed but my moods have been very low also. The first few weeks I was SO emotional but snappy at the same time. Now I’m just snappy apparently :( not a fan might ask to change it soon.

KTCluck · 14/07/2018 15:09

Cerazette had the same effect on me OP. Had to give up on it in the end as I was having two bleeds a month. I have friends who started off similarly on it but then their periods stopped though, so might be worth giving it another few months before changing

specialsubject · 14/07/2018 15:10

other experiences are of no value as body chemistry is individual - but it sounds like this one isnt for you. go back and try a different pill.

SavvyBlancBlonde · 14/07/2018 15:10

I went off it very quickly when I realised it gave me the rage.

I would never touch again

Seasawride · 14/07/2018 15:13

My dd was on it and it was awful. Bleeding and mood swings. She changed to another pill. Sounds like you need to

LostNAlone · 14/07/2018 15:14

Took 3 months for me to settle and ive had 1 2day light period in the 9years following. Id say it was pretty normal to be a bit haywire for a few months

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 14/07/2018 15:15

God I was going to post about Cerazette today. I've been on it around 7 weeks and for the last two have been having bloody discharge (not full on period but like the beginning and end of one) for 12 days now. Much nicer than the flooding in was experiencing previously but I am getting a little fed up with it all the same!

andantecantabile · 14/07/2018 15:27

I had cerelle and bled constantly on it. And it made me a hormonal nightmare too! I gave up after a couple of months.

Breakfastofmilk · 14/07/2018 15:33

Its an amazing contraceptive as I couldn't have any sex cos I was bleeding all the time.

Heh. I had no bleeding on it but I also reckoned it was an amazing contraceptive as I 100% lost my sex drive. I just had no desire at all to have sex and couldn't even imagine wanting to ever again.

Remarkably effective as a means of pregnancy prevention but not entirely what I was hoping for...

nancybelle · 14/07/2018 16:17

I was the same, came off it as no sex drive at all. It was like a switch had been flicked and couldn’t even be bothered attempting to fake it. Loved having no periods though but it definitely switches off lots of emotions related to relationships.

Woobeedoo · 14/07/2018 16:31

Thanks everyone.

I'm beginning to think when this pack ends soon I'm going to go back to my GP and ask to swap to something else. I'm normally quite upbeat but the mood lows seem to be getting worse and more frequent, I'm bawling my eyes out at the drop of a hat every single day. The only decent side effects of this pill was the bigger boobs and weight loss Grin.

Incidentally LizTaylor - both of my periods started with 4 days of end-of-period type discharge before the proper event kicked in. Bah!

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 14/07/2018 16:34

I was on it for 3 years and I never had any problems with it my periods stopped straight away and I came off it in February to start trying for a baby.

Fanciedachange1 · 14/07/2018 16:34

I went on it and had continual bleeding for about two months so stopped it. About 6 months later i tried it again and had about 3 to 4 months of daily brown discharge. After that though my periods stopped.

Now i have been period free for around 10 years! I did find though that in terms of sex drive the more i have the more i want. If for some reason i dont have sex for a week, i could easily never have sex again. So in that sense its a bit of a mood kill at times.

fassone · 14/07/2018 16:45

It made me ragey like never before. Binned it and never looked back.

KatieFinnegan · 14/07/2018 16:50

Sorry to hear that - I've been on it for the last 5 years and might get light spotting every 3 months or so - so it works for me.

It was a journey to find the right contraceptive for me though and I'm just lucky this works. I was on Yasmin/Yasminelle for 3 years which was okay, and then tried the NuvaRing - which had me so depressed I couldn't cope!

I get migraines, so that's why Cerazette was prescribed to me - but it's worth chatting to your GP as every pill is different for every person....

... Although that said, I'm a consistently grumpy, pain in the bum to be around sometimes, so maybe I should reconsider myself :P

FaithEverPresent · 14/07/2018 16:57

One thing that needs pointing out is that these aren’t ‘periods’ as such. It’s not a period because you haven’t ovulated...it’s teally breakthrough bleeding. So you can’t think of it like a period as such, it won’t be the same as your periods off the pill.

I found cerazatte made me feel awful. Lots of bleeding, low mood, no sex drive. I gave up on it in the end!

LarryUnderwood · 14/07/2018 17:01

Cerazette sent me into a hellish emotional tailspin. Violent rage, low mood, depression. Hideous. I binned it shortly after starting it and the mood swings stopped quickly but it took a while for my mood to lift.

SpoonfulOfJam · 14/07/2018 17:03

Excellent contraceptive.

Bled for 6 months.
Absolutely no sex drive
Hated my husband.

Best thing I ever did was stop taking hormonal contraceptives.

Karigan198 · 14/07/2018 17:04

It did much the same to me. I kept going back and they kept saying it would take time to settle. After 5 months of it I insisted and they switched brand

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 14/07/2018 17:55

Absolutely agree with other negative posts was told I'd never have a period again but instead bleed nearly every day - a small amount, so I'm torn between constant SanPro use or binned knickers, and ruined pyjamas and occasionally sheets as I sleep naked in summer.

Also noticed a drop in energy and mood

Only been on it 3 months

Can't wait to tell my gynae it can bog off

Winenot78 · 14/07/2018 18:13

After being on microgynon for a good 10 years or more my dr took me off it because he was worried about my very occasional migraines (maybe 1a year, at most) and put me on cerazette as it was the only other contraceptive I could have (no kids at the time so he didn’t want me to have coil and I can’t have implant because of low bone density). I was eventually on it for a year before giving up on it as I never once stopped spotting and bleeding to some extent for the whole year! My dr kept suggesting I give it just another 3 months but after 12 he conceded that it obviously wasn’t working for me and so I stopped taking it and have had to give up on contraception other than condoms.

Sadly, cerazette just doesn’t work for everyone x
