To want Gareth Southgate to remain as England manager

MyNameIsArthur · 11/07/2018 23:14

Often there is a change of England manager after the World Cup when we fail to bring the cup home. However I think Gareth Southgate has done us proud and should stay as England Manager. What do you think?

BeansandSausages · 11/07/2018 23:15

Yup! No failure in my eyes. They were fantastic.

Oswin · 11/07/2018 23:16

Absolutely. I think thats the general feeling now anyway.

HeadSpin5 · 11/07/2018 23:16

Totally agree

WilburIsSomePig · 11/07/2018 23:16

I agree, I think he's been awesome and the team have conducted themselves in a really professional way. Well done England - and I say that as a Scot. Smile

psychomath · 11/07/2018 23:17

YA absolutely NBU, and my waistcoat and I will be having stern words with anyone who says YA.

Moore6701 · 11/07/2018 23:18

Definitely should stay - he’s done a great job ( and I say that as a Scot - so England are not my favourite team). Also I think he dresses very well.

imdunkelnistgutmunkeln · 11/07/2018 23:19

I don't believe there's any thought at all of Southgate going.

Onwhitehorses · 11/07/2018 23:19

I dont think there is the tiniest chance that anyone (least of all the FA) will try to replace him. His is an appointment for the future, building on his experience managing the younger national team. Outstanding work Gareth, a thoroughly decent man and a good manager too.

nancy75 · 11/07/2018 23:19

Unless he quits I don’t think there is any suggestion of him not being the England manager. The team have performed far better than expected

1happyhippie · 11/07/2018 23:19

He isn't going to get the sack? He's just got us to the World Cup semi final! He has built a young strong team, that show a lot of promise. He managed to get the country behind the team and done it all with pride.
He won't be going anywhere!

Managers have been sacked in the past for underperforming. You certainly can't say Southgates guilty of that.

Glumglowworm · 11/07/2018 23:19

Doing better than they’ve done in decades really shouldn’t be seen as a failure. So hopefully they will keep him as manager.

I know nothing about football but Gareth Southgate seems calm and compassionate as a manager which is good, especially with a young team I think. If they take this success and run with it, they might come back stronger in two years or four years or might go back to losing as early as possible

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 11/07/2018 23:24

Normally the reason the manager is replaced is because the team hasnt done what it was expected to do

Gareths team has exceeded exoections.

Thats the difference

loveyouradvice · 11/07/2018 23:32

Yup he's a hero to the nation... no way would anyone ask him to leave!

Hugely popular and doing a fab job

KenAdams · 11/07/2018 23:33

Ranieri was replaced very soon after his success at Leicester so you never can tell.

1happyhippie · 11/07/2018 23:40

Ranieri didn't have the backing of the squad or club though Ken. The Leicester players stopped playing for him!
Same with mouriniho at Chelsea. Won the league with them, then sacked the following season. Lost the dressing room and had to go.

nancy75 · 11/07/2018 23:41

England manager is different to club football, unless they are totally awful ( or caught out by the Sun in some undercover sting) they usually last a bit longer!

Candyflip · 11/07/2018 23:42

I love him. I really felt for him after 96, but look at what he has done! He is so amazing.

Itsveryhard · 11/07/2018 23:43

Don't think he's going anywhere!!

ChishandFips33 · 11/07/2018 23:48

I see it as not failing to win the World Cup but succeeding in getting to the semi finals...first time in nearly 30yrs I'm told

That's a massive positive in my book.

Team Gareth all the way - he seems like a great role model to the younger/less experienced players and the public in general

Snickerdoodles · 11/07/2018 23:52

Totally agree! I really hope Harry Kane and Jordan Pickford get selected for Euro 2020 too!! Fingers crossed :)

BonnieF · 11/07/2018 23:54

I’m sure he will stay. In many ways, the England job is a good gig : a salary of several million pounds per year for a total of about 12 weeks work, plus a tournament every other year if we qualify.

chrisinthesun · 11/07/2018 23:57

Of course he won't be sacked. Why the F WOULD he? Confused

He got his team to a stage that no other manager has got to in 3 decades!!!

England did brilliantly.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 12/07/2018 00:58

Ranieri was replaced very soon after his success at Leicester so you never can tell

Errrrrr you might want to look qhere leicester were when he was sacked, you can tell you know, like every time. Especially when the team are like 20th (dead bottom) of tje premier league and havent got one point in 10 games..

Not that he should have been sacked after what he did for leicester. Ie he should have been given a bit of grace. That said if he hadnt won the title leicester fans would have been calling for his head long before he was sacked the position tjey were in when he was sacked.

Saying it tje way youve said it makes it sound like they won the title then out of the blue they sacked him, no no no they sacked him because it looked like they were did have a chance in hell of surviving relegation.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 12/07/2018 01:00

That doesnt apply to Gareth.

The only reason he might leave is of he resigns to mamahe a club. But hes nog exactly been desparate to manage a club so i suggest thatbwont tempt him

heatwavelou3 · 12/07/2018 01:01
