To want Gareth Southgate to remain as England manager

Often there is a change of England manager after the World Cup when we fail to bring the cup home. However I think Gareth Southgate has done us proud and should stay as England Manager. What do you think?

YANBU. Best performance in 28 years. Lovely young team with a lot of talent that can come back from this experience hopefully having learned a lot. I'm hopeful for the future.

katienana · 12/07/2018 06:44

He's going nowhere, he's going to.lead us to the Euros now. I'm a boro fan (he played for & managed us) and he was a massive part of our clubs most successful period and was universally loved. Got rid of him too soon as manager but I'm so glad it worked out for him personally.

Cadencia · 12/07/2018 06:47

Southgate is a legend.

PattiStanger · 12/07/2018 06:50

Has there been a suggestion that he might be sacked, where have you heard that?

Oblomov18 · 12/07/2018 06:58

Of course he's not going to be sacked. Preposterous.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 12/07/2018 07:35

He managed most of the current team as U21's & has done an incredible job with them-can't wait to see how they do in Euro 2020.

Imchlibob · 12/07/2018 09:11

He seems to be the only person in England in a position of leadership who is competent, knowledgeable and has the confidence of those who work for him. If they do sack him for some mad reason, can we have him for Prime Minister?

mumofmunchkin · 12/07/2018 09:15

He's taken the England team further in the competition than anyone (realistically) thought they could go, they won a world cup penalty shoot out for the first time any England team has, and it looks like Harry Kane will get the golden boot, only the second time an England player has won it. He won't be sacked.

TheVanguardSix · 12/07/2018 09:20

He's a class act.

He brought a whole air of dignity and integrity to the pitch and the players reflected this. It was absolutely awesome to see England get so, so, so close. Wonderful! Croatia was a force to be reckoned with last night in that second half. But really, I feel so very proud of the England team.

RoseWhiteTips · 12/07/2018 10:05

I’m not sure a knighthood is forthcomingHmm but I think he has shown himself to lead by example. He seems like a decent man and I see no reason whatsoever why he should lose his job.

LittleLionMansMummy · 12/07/2018 10:12

Managers are sacked when their team doesn't perform. This side is the best we've seen in 28 years, the public (and importantly the media) like Southgate, the players respect and listen to him. There's no reason to sack him.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/07/2018 10:13

He shouldn't just stay as England manager. He should be running the whole country!

Botanicbaby · 12/07/2018 10:19

Often there is a change of England manager after the World Cup when we fail to bring the cup home

This sentence is hilarious. When you say we ‘fail to bring the cup home’, you mean like every single time since over 50 years ago...Grin

It reads as if we’re expected to win it or some such? Good on Gareth he did brilliantly and I hope he’s not going anywhere else soon. Perfect for the job.

KimWexler · 12/07/2018 10:20

He should be running the whole country

Yes, yes he should Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 12/07/2018 10:21

He doesn’t need replacing, he more than did his job and exceeded expectations.

Seasawride · 12/07/2018 10:21

He has been fantastic and a real role model and leader.

Roll on the Euroes.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/07/2018 10:45

Do you know what else has been great about this WC? It's been very peaceful. I really did worry about the Russian fans after last time we played them. But it seems to have passed off without any violence to speak of. I wish I'd been able to go.

1happyhippie · 12/07/2018 10:56

bitoutofpractice yes, I agree. The whole tournament has gone really well. It's been great to see all the fans mixing together. And the Russians actually supporting England? Who would have thought it?
We were led to believe England fans would be coming home battered and bruised, and the general feeling was it wasn't safe!
Russia have done a great job of showing the world how it should be done.

MyNameIsArthur · 12/07/2018 19:46

I think that is unanimous. He should stay! 🎈😃🍷
