I need a dress for a christening & wedding.

I'm 5'1" and an apple shaped 18 or 16 if stretchy material.

I want a knee length dress with a (respectful) v neck and preferably 3/4 sleeves that is not a ridiculous price or colour.

Can anyone help me because I can't find one for love nor money. All the dresses I'm seeing are high neck which is no good for me, it just makes me look boxy, or the skirts are sitting in the crease between arse & leg, or they are all off the shoulder. Who'd have thought it would be so hard ffs!

I suppose my AIBU is why are all fashionable dresses the fucking length of a top ffs.

Have you tried M&Co? They do a petite range of nice clothes.
Yanbu, I'm even shorter than you at 4ft10 (sadly on tiptoes!) 4ft9 really, I hate it too x

Eliza9917 · 10/07/2018 10:31

I'll have a look there now, thank you.

Don't know your personal style preferences, but with your shape I'd opt for a skater style dress.

ASOS have a good sale on at the moment.

This dress is quite nice:

www.asos.com/prd/7798171

The shoes the model is wearing are also in the sale for £18.

Hope this helps?

HoneyBadgerApparently · 10/07/2018 10:34

Maybe you could wear tailored trousers with heels and a nice top? Some people don't suit dresses (me being one of them!)

PanPanPanPing · 10/07/2018 10:35

Have a look at some of these Hatley dresses www.hatley.com/en_uk/women/shop-all/dresses.html/. I bought one at the beginning of the Summer - lovely (respectful!) V neck and 3/4 sleeves. I love it, it is just above knee length for me - I'm 5'4", so I think the length should be fine for you.

PlowerOfScotland · 10/07/2018 10:37

Stick with 18, not 16 in stretchy. You'll look and feel more comfortable. Another vote for Asos. Great range for all shapes. Any idea what colours you're shopping for?

Eliza9917 · 10/07/2018 10:49

@NurseButtercup Thank you but that neck is wrong, it would make me look huge.

@Nemophilist Thank you but that looks too day-time.

@Slightlyjaded Thank you but I don't like the top of that one.

@HoneyBadgerApparently Thank you but dresses look better because as I'm a short apple, a skirt or trousers & top cuts me off at the middle a bit.

@PanPanPanPing Thank you but the shape of those would look like a potato sack on me. I need a skater or fit & flare dress. Sorry, I missed that out of my post.

@Slightlyjaded Thank you but that's too day-time and the wrong length.

@PlowerOfScotland I'll look at them now, I want a nice summery colour or blush/neutral or floral.

This is nice but might be too bright?

Bruce oldfield. Expensive, but well structured, which if you’re not a size 10 is much better imo

Have a look at Roman originals
Lots of decent dresses there. Very reasonable and usually very flattering.
I get many wows and compliments when wearing this dress
And 2 women on a plane recently asked where I got this dress
This one also gets many comments

ILoveMyCaravan · 10/07/2018 11:00

Try www.romanoriginals.co.uk. Their styles are very flattering.

sailorcherries · 10/07/2018 11:06

Check out Elsies Attic. Lots of dresses there are more vintagey in style with v necks, longer length and flared/skater/tea shaped.

Sausagerollers · 10/07/2018 11:06

How abòut this one, v neck, skater style, wedding guest worthy:

Or Scarlett and Jo.

Also check out voucher codes for them.
I've just used MVC15 and got 15% off and free next day delivery!

I always struggle with outfits so I take advantage of places that have a free personal shopper experience (like Debenhams).

No pressure to buy, they are good with the price points I’ve given in the past, and I’ve enjoyed sitting with a cuppa whilst they pull things for me to try.

Neverender · 10/07/2018 11:12

I wore this recently to a wedding and got loads of compliments:

Something like this is what I'm looking for, in knee length, and obv not maternity.
