To be freaked out- weird marks carpet

What in God's name are these marks. Started in one room...and now in our bedroom...weird circles..not damp with dark dots in centre of some..what is this!!! We live in a bungalow and have had windows open at night..AIBU to think there has been some nocturnal visitor?!!!

carpet circles. Like crop circles but designed for carpets.

My guess is someone's into carpet kink. Looks like someone's been lubing up their nips and leaving lubey areola prints behind.

Looks like something oily, so spot in the centre is original droplet and outer circle is where it's spread through capillary action?

Have you seen Paranormal Activity - looks like the footprints from the demon when they put down powder to look for tracks!

When did they start appearing?

Apart from leaving window open have you done anything different?

Have you been spraying anything in those rooms? Air freshener, perfume, etc

Are they near a piece of furniture or not near anything?

Is the roof dusty?..could condensation drops have formed in hot room and fell to the carpet bringing a spot of dust with it...?

If it's appearing daily then before you go to bed lay a plain sheet over the areas and then see in the morning if the spots are on the sheet or still forming in the carpet

It depends how big they are but they look similar to the bottom of my walking stick.

Carpet moths don't do circles, they are geometrically challenged

That does not look like pile reversal. That's not usual circular, more like a puddle (used to work in the industry and have seen pike reversal many times).

Oh my god...I'm just back to this thread and cracking up laughing...I love mumsnetters...so freaking funny.....I'm might try the sheet on the ground thing...it happened in the first room a week ago and then in our bedroom last night..nothing spilled, no hankie pankie...spiders running their willies on my carpet...😂😂😂 somethings up though...now don't laugh...I haven't been dripfeeding..but my husband is on crutches...well not in the past few days..and they are clean..and he hasn't been over in the part of the room...liking the idea of the crop circles/ paranormal...they are quite big..as in the size of a 2 x 2euro coins? Bigger...do you think said spiders or a blue bottle fly might be masturbating on my carpet..?!

Yes, I bet it's the crutches.

I got freaked out by dark marks that appeared on a carpet, and gradually got worse. I couldn't find the cause for ages, but I eventually worked out that they weren't marks at all - the carpet was actually wrinkling very slightly, so slightly that it wasn't obvious, and the "marks" were shadows. Maybe you have a crutches-plus-shadows effect?

You've definitely had a pogo-sticking burglar coming in through your open windows at night.
