AIBU to think that Snickers need to be called out on "labels"

I was so shocked to see a Snickers bar labelled "BROKEN". The advert around it is there is a bar for everyone! How do they "Mars" think it's okay to label bars in this vile fashion! What is the advertising agency doing to address this! This only serves to further distort young people's (future leaders) views of themselves! This has to stop!

I really don’t understand your post, sorry. Could you explain a bit more?

mimibunz · 03/07/2018 08:56

Wha?

MrsG841 · 03/07/2018 08:56

Bit melodramatic

Whatdoido2018 · 03/07/2018 08:57

Broken? Is it like broken biscuits?

JustJoinedRightNow · 03/07/2018 08:58

I just googled snickers broken labels and it appears they’re labeling the chocolate bars in the theme of their new ads “you’re not you when you’re hungry” so who are you?

So you choose cranky, moody etc and I imagine shizzle means there is one saying “broken”.

Shizzle, I don’t understand the upset though?

LeighaJ · 03/07/2018 08:58

I think she means it's a candy bar for a "broken" person.

60sname · 03/07/2018 08:58

Because they want to appear in people's instagram when they're documenting their hangover??

I can't see bars called 'erudite' and 'exquisite' selling in the same quantities...

I think you're overthinking it.

Usernumbers1234 · 03/07/2018 08:58

Erm......

Alongside Cranky, Irritable, Done In.

It’s a word. Last Friday I felt “Broken”, it was a long week, it was hot, the kids were both cranky and irritable.

It’s not some kind of mental assault on people (why just the young incidentally, I’m old and love a snickers) it’s just a word. Or are you part of the crowd that wants all the words saved for you and the rest of us can’t use it?

BluthsFrozenBananas · 03/07/2018 08:58

Cos I’m bored I. Googled it. It part of their you’re not you when you’re hungry campaign, here’s a quote.

Dhaliwal, trade communications manager at Mars Chocolate UK, said: “Rooted in cutting edge shopper and consumer insight, we’re confident this campaign can help drive growth across the singles category, boost sales for retailers, and provide consumers with a great chance to have a laugh with their mates.
The twenty-one hunger symptoms are: “Moaner”, “Faffer”, “Done In”, “Miffed”, “Broken”, “Irritable”, “Grouchy”, “Numpty”, “Stroppy”, “Yawner”, “Sluggish”, “Mardy Bum”, “Grumpster”, “Knackered”, “Sleepyhead”, “Lazy Bones”, “Fuzzy Head”, “Wiped Out”, “Complainer” and “Drama Mama

What's vile about broken?

sneezealot · 03/07/2018 09:00

I think the OP just needs a Snickers

JustJoinedRightNow · 03/07/2018 09:00

Drama Mama - dump on that one too then OP, as well as “broken”

Watchingthecloudsflyby · 03/07/2018 09:00

So you think kids might start labell ing themselves through the medium of snickers and that it will affect their self worth?

LeighaJ · 03/07/2018 09:00

I craved snickers when I was pregnant, they always had something stupid written on them and unfortunately not a single one was labelled "knocked up". Snickers for everyone my arse. Angry

60sname · 03/07/2018 09:00

I bought the 'knackered' one a few times while commuting during pregnancy. It is a joke on your immediate situation rather than you as a person...

BluthsFrozenBananas · 03/07/2018 09:00

Cross post.

ShatnersWig · 03/07/2018 09:01

Interesting first post by the OP....

I think it's the heat.

DitheringBlidiot · 03/07/2018 09:02

I don’t understand? I quite like the packaging, the “faffer” one has me down to a tee (T?)

BikeRunSki · 03/07/2018 09:02

You mean the way that Snickers wrappers say “Broken”or “Tired” or “Celebrate” on the wrapper instead of the name? I think they’re just trying to suggest that Snickers are right for many occasions and moods.

“Broken” is quite often used by sports people to describe how tired they are after a particularly long or stenenuous event. I recently did a 100 mile cycle event and was pretty broken. A Snickers would have gone down very well. Smile

Watchingthecloudsflyby · 03/07/2018 09:03

Ok I hate this campaign but now i need one that says Drama Mama

JustJoinedRightNow · 03/07/2018 09:03

Dammit did we just do some free advertising for snickers somehow Shatner??

It worked. I really want a snickers now.

SneakyGremlins · 03/07/2018 09:04

I want a "Mardy bum" one Grin

JustJoined Probably. I wish they'd use fewer exclamation marks, regardless.
