Why is it so disgusting? At best it tastes and smells like farts.
I love cauliflower in all its other guises, although it does smell like farts if you're steaming it.

YANBU

I tried it once. Never again.
People who rave about it are liars.

EatMyGoal · 01/07/2018 17:13

I love it, bit of butter and salt and pepper. Yum 😋

Elmo230885 · 01/07/2018 17:13

Just no. Too hot to type more.

DuchyDuke · 01/07/2018 17:14

You might be overcooking it. It needs to have a bit of bite. Usually a bit of a blanche in boiling water is enough.

SentToTheSynByn · 01/07/2018 17:14

I absolutely love it, I can get through a cauliflower a week. Maybe you're not cooking it right.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 01/07/2018 17:14

I thought cauliflower rice would be horrible - after all, I tried making a cauliflower pizza and it ended up in the bin - but it's actually quite nice. I didn't steam it though, I stir fried it with some prawns, mangetout and baby corn.

SentToTheSynByn · 01/07/2018 17:15

Egg fried cauliflower rice is devine.

Sarahlou63 · 01/07/2018 17:16

Don't steam it - roast it! Olive oil, salt and pepper and about 15 mins at 180c. Bloody lovely.

MorrisDancingViv · 01/07/2018 17:16

It's great if you fry it in oil with salt and pepper. Rubbish if it's steamed

CrazyOldChicken · 01/07/2018 17:16

You need to toss in a little olive oil, add salt and pepper then put it in the oven. It's lovely.

Callaird · 01/07/2018 17:20

I bake the cauliflower, in large florets, after tossing in a little oil and various seasoning depending on what it’s being served with, for 15 minutes so it still has a bite, then pop it in the food processor for a very quick blitz, then add sautéed onion and other vegetables.

It’s very yummy (and not everyone can tell it’s not rice!)

dontticklethetoad · 01/07/2018 17:30

Oh OK. I had just bought the aldi microwaveable pot Blush

I will try making my own. But if it is still disgusting I will hold you all responsible.

Cauliflower pizza is delicious! But that my have more to do with the topping tbh.

dontticklethetoad · 01/07/2018 17:32

If it's not it is a stupid question, do you blitz it in the food processor before cooking.

OP posts:
dontticklethetoad · 01/07/2018 17:32

Oh wait, of course you do. Otherwise it would be pureé

MissCharleyP · 01/07/2018 17:42

It’s vile. I’d rather just have a side of normal cauliflower.

MorrisDancingViv · 01/07/2018 17:43

Blitz it in batches otherwise even raw it starts to puree

BeeFarseer · 01/07/2018 17:45

It's all in the preparation. I've had cauli rice that smelled and tasted like the devil's own farts. Usually if it's shop bought, or microwaved.

If I make it myself, it's very nice. If I use shop bought and fry it instead, it's nice.

Fintress · 01/07/2018 17:46

I once made shepherd's pie with cauliflower rice topping instead of potatoes. Utterly vile. YANBU.

Mookie81 · 01/07/2018 17:47

Iceland do frozen bags of it. I love it.
I microwave it according to instructions then dry fry for 5 mins to extract any moisture.
I struggle to eat normal rice now as it's too blasting and filling for me!

Mookie81 · 01/07/2018 17:47

*bloating

bluerunningshoes · 01/07/2018 17:50

it's not rice
sorry for shouting.
it's just cauliflower. perfect as a veg, useless as rice substitute.

sue51 · 01/07/2018 17:52

I like it but DH complains it makes the kitchen smell a bit farty.

PrimalLass · 01/07/2018 17:53

The frozen stuff is lovely.

Strokethefurrywall · 01/07/2018 17:54

I love cauliflower, go through at least 2 or 3 a week! I grate mine or stick it through the shredder on the processor, stick in airtight Tupperware and microwave for 5 minutes.
Has a bit of bite and great with things like chili or curry.
Otherwise I roast the florets in oil, salt and pepper. Also equally obsessed with rutabaga fries or as a fried hash.
I never buy cauliflower rice in the bag, it tastes like farts.
