Cauliflower rice....

Why is it so disgusting? At best it tastes and smells like farts.
I love cauliflower in all its other guises, although it does smell like farts if you're steaming it.

Blitz the raw cauliflower in batches in salt water - then drain it thoroughly, dry as much as you can, and cook as cauliflower rice.

ScoobyGangMember · 01/07/2018 17:59

Blitz in processor then dry fry or use oil. Fry, stirring often, till toasted and nutty, with a little shallot. Turmeric, chilli, cumn if you like. Add salt. Delicious. I'm an addict.

Vile stuff. I like cauliflower as veg but something happens to it when you make rice out of it, it’s quite bitter. Only way to reeeeeeally enjoy it is with a bucket load of cheese sauce and shovels of toasted cheese on the top 😂

BarbarianMum · 01/07/2018 18:15

I eat anything. Tried it. It was inedible. Envy

Foodielady · 01/07/2018 20:05

Add a little cumin powder (1/4 -1/2 teaspoon) to it - stops the bloating and farting.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 01/07/2018 20:10

YANBU. It’s utterly gross - I spat it out the first time I tried it and I’ve never done that with any food in my life.
I love cauliflower as a vegetable though.

Buckingfrolicks · 01/07/2018 20:17

Fucking vile. That's all I have to say and HNRTFT

LaGattaNera · 01/07/2018 20:19

Yes it is like being gassed by a fart then having to ingest it absolutely revolting would rather just have the curry on it's on - sometimes I chop up cooked fine green beans as a base much nicer.

HoardingQueen · 01/07/2018 22:26

Love the iceland bags, no smell, I use it instead of rice or half and half, Asda also do a curried one, also nice

Amanduh · 01/07/2018 22:31

IT’S NOT RICE OR THE ‘perfect rice substitute’
IT’S JUST SMALL CAULIFLOWER.
See also ‘courgetti’ as spaghetti. It’s not the same or a substitute it’s completely different! Making it the same shape doesn’t make it THE SAME

Cheerbear23 · 01/07/2018 22:31

It’s really fartiest substance known to man, well now that ‘Beanfeast’ seems to not exist anymore.

Voice0fReason · 01/07/2018 22:47

Fry it!
Much easier to season or flavour too.

LaGattaNera · 03/07/2018 07:05

I used the Iceland individual bags and almost passed out when I opened it after microwaving it. I like cauliflower but not the rice - something nasty happens to it.

Ihuntmonsters · 03/07/2018 07:14

Rice is delicious, why would you want a pretend veggi substitute? I can't eat pasta anymore, all of the substitutes I've tried are either sad imitations (like gummy rice and corn pasta) or just not pasta like at all (spaghetti squash is nice, but not in the least like pasta).

Mummyschnauzer · 03/07/2018 07:18

Tried it once - gross. I’m v low carb so generally just put a salad where I’d have had rice or pasta

Luxembourgmama · 03/07/2018 07:23

You need to fry it with butter salt and pepper. Definitely not microwave it that would be foul.

Wateroffaduck · 03/07/2018 07:27

Cauliflower is lovely, but the rice is vile, had one mouthful and binned it. Just vile.
