It’s nearly 1a.m. right now and one of the flats in my building is making a fuck ton of noise. They’re in a ground floor flat, they’re all outside yell-talking and having a noughties rnb singalong session.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a bit of Alicia Keys as much as the next person, but even with all my windows shut (which I don’t much wanna do as my flat is roasting hot) I can still hear everything loud and clear, even with earplugs in. It’s like trying to fall asleep in a karaoke bar.

I’m too chicken shit to go downstairs and ask them to pipe the fuck down as there’s about 20 of them and one of me, and there’s no way they could possibly believe that their music/noise isn’t loud enough to disturb the people around them, so they clearly just don’t give a shit.

will the police even bother to come out for noise? thought this was a council matter now? i could be wrong

Council rather than 101 - they have 24 hour noise compliant units sometimes

No point in calling 101 as it's the local council who deal with noise. As hard as it is, if it's a one off incident I would leave it and have a word tomorrow. You can't reason with drunk people and you all have to get along moving forward. It's very inconsiderate but it happens

Your council might have a noise control number, probably filed under Environmental Health

I looked online but the only noise complaint type thing I could find for my council was a form you fill in where they say they’ll investigate it within 5 days.

It’s not a one off. They’re always noisy, just not always this noisy this late.

Since my first post we’ve had Usher, Cameo, Alicia Keys, Keisha White (the girls really went for it with that one) and currently on Ciara. Music and very loud singing all interspersed with general loud drunken noise likes they’re in a bloody pub garden.

Even the stoners who live beneath me and spend most of the weekend seemingly blowing pot smoke directly into my windows have given up and gone indoors.

Rocinante1 no, think they’re mostly family I think and I wouldn’t want to fib about it as I think there’s kids there and I don’t want social services to end up getting involved somehow for no good reason.

You're not going to lose anything by phoning. I've seen the police come out and shift people for 'anti social behaviour'. It's worth a try.

I was on hold with 101 for 26 minutes before getting fed up and hanging up. If they’re still at it at 2 I’ll try again.

It’s a U-shaped pair of apartment blocks so unfortunately the noise echoes. I just don’t get how people can be this obtuse about disturbing the people around them?! The couple in the flat above theirs have a baby, there’s loads of families with kids (who, to be fair, make enough noise to make me think murderous thoughts til gone 10pm) and they just don’t bloody care.

I know it’s Saturday night and I probably come off as a bit off a killjoy, but I’ve had two late nights on the trot (Taylor Swift last night and Foo Fighters tonight, don’t say I don’t appreciate loud music) I’m bloody knackered and I want to sleep! They’re even drowning out my tinnitus FFS!

The guys I used to live above would be lpuf and drink etc, but if they went quiet before 1 it was usually uneventful. If they kept the party going much later, there was usually the angry loud sounds instead of party loud sounds. So I was asking incase these guys had a habbit of turning into angry drunks with each other

Alicia keys is dreadful, I cannot for the life of me understand her success. That aside you have my sympathies. I would keep a record of the noise over a few weeks, even better if you can record it. Then submit that to the council
