Anyone had it done? I'm considering getting a lip and nose ringSmile

Chavvy Hmm

covetingthepreciousthings · 24/06/2018 13:50

I would double check with your work that they allow facial piercings first..

But apart from that I'd say go for it if you want them, they're not too painful. I've had both in the past, I took the lip one out but have been left with a noticeable small hole.

I had horror stories told to me about lip piercing (and tongue) with teeth damage etc, but my dentist was always fine with them.

Lethaldrizzle · 24/06/2018 13:51

But I have to look at them, it makes me feel a bit icky!

RoseWhiteTips · 24/06/2018 14:04

Sorry but piercings, especially on the face, are awful. The nose ring thing makes me feel a bit sick - can’t imagine having a cold or hay fever with that. Yeah yeah, I know you can remove it but still it’s a gross thought.

I feel tattoos are dreadful too, though, so I know I’m not a fan of body “art”. Interestingly, Ronaldo seems to know he cannot improve on nature.

RoseWhiteTips · 24/06/2018 14:05

Tacky. Yep.

VladmirsPoutine · 24/06/2018 14:07

Good thing no-one gives a shit about your opinion then Rose, isn't it Smile

I've got my lip and nose done (amongst other things). Got my nose done 21 years ago when I was 12 and my lip 13 year ago when I was 20. Both healed find with no probs. And hasn't effected employment opportunities. Had a job in the NHS for nearly a decade where I was allowed to keep my piercings in. The only thing with the lip one is its rubbing my lower gum round my front teeth and I have a habit of biting it when I'm stressed so I've worn a little dip in my bottom front teeth. Dentist told me off on my last visit and strongly recommended me swapping it for a PTFE one

GobblersKnob · 24/06/2018 14:19

I still have my nose piercing and like it. I had to take my lip piercing - which I really loved, out (central lower), because it was knackering my gums. The hole never goes away if this is something that would bother you.

BeyondSceptical · 24/06/2018 14:19

I have my lip and nose done, no problems with either :)

ToastyFingers · 24/06/2018 14:30

I've had both done, and had no problems with either. I wouldn't pay much attention to the people who feel they need to tell you how much they dislike it, in my experience, the only people who voice their dislike irl are either rather entitled or somewhat unhinged.

I don't like Bob haircuts, small dogs, or false nails but I don't wade into threads full of people who like them, to tell them how wrong I think they are.

MsHopey · 24/06/2018 14:35

Pain wasn't too bad on either.
I think they all heal okay as long as you keep them clean and follow the guidelines set out by the piercer regarding proper care.
I think almost every accepts nose piercings in the work place, but lip piercings have been a no go in my customer facing roles.
I don't think mine look chavvy at all, I do imagine the rest of your outfit/hair/demeanour would decide if you look chavvy or not, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Catmum26 · 24/06/2018 14:51

i pierced my lip myself when i was 17. i bought the proper needle and clamp. i numbed the outside with an anaesthetic cream and the inside with a mouth ulcer ointment. still hurt like hell however it is over pretty quickly. the worst part is it’s never healed up on the outside so i have a permanent hole now that i don’t have my lip ring in. from what i remember though it swelled up for a day or two after but there wasn’t much pain.

JacquesHammer · 24/06/2018 14:53

🙄

JacquesHammer · 24/06/2018 14:54

I’ve had my nose and tongue done for years.

My tongue is the favourite piercing I have and probably the quickest healing but nose didn’t take long

NotACleverName · 24/06/2018 14:59

I have a pierced nose and have never had any problems with it when I’ve had colds.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lethaldrizzle · 24/06/2018 14:59

Love tattoos just not facial piercings

That’s ok, they’re not compulsory Smile

NorthenderNamechanger · 24/06/2018 15:14

Can't comment on lip rings but I've had my nose pierced for 20 years and I feel naked without it. I've heard lip rings heal up fast but noses definitely don't! The pain is momentary though. Made my eyes water then was fine.

Get something comfy in there like a ring or an andralok and leave it alone for a few months. If you get it pierced with a 1.2 or 1.6 gauge then you have more options with jewellery.

I have a small andralok gold stud and it's dainty and pretty but I have many chunky rings for when I'm feeling more rebellious.

Oh and I'm not a "chav" and it has never affected my career prospects, even in senior roles (HCP)

Lethaldrizzle · 24/06/2018 15:17

Thank God they're not compulsory Smile

RomeoBunny · 24/06/2018 15:19

Nose absolutely wrecks getting done. Labret/lip just stings a little.

FourForYouGlenCoco · 24/06/2018 17:29

I used to have my lip done (on the side and in the middle, both at the bottom, don’t know the proper names!) and loved them both times. First one I had a ring, lost the ball and subsequently the ring and never replaced, second time I had a stud and ended up taking it out because of work. You can see the hole on the side but not in the middle. Never had any problems with gums or anything but maybe I didn’t have them in long enough (I did crack a tooth on my tongue bar but that’s never coming out, my fave piercing!).
Got my nose done relatively recently and love it - I have a v tiny, v sparkly stud and it’s fab. Definitely on the stingy side, made my eyes water to get it done and took a while to heal compared to the others, but had no problems and it’s been absolutely fine.

Oh dear. You must have a few piercings and lots of tats, judging by your impolite response.🤣

RoseWhiteTips · 24/06/2018 18:39

Is it odd to eat when you have a piece of metal stuck through your tongue? Icky time.

Aria2015 · 24/06/2018 18:43

My only issue with a lip ring is everyone I know who has taken one out is left with what looks like a permanent pimple. But if you fancy it I think they can look quite nice. I like nose piercing more and if you wear small studs then it's usually not obviously of you take them out because the hole is small and usually hidden in the crease of the nose.

JacquesHammer · 24/06/2018 18:56

Not in the slightest bit odd. Nowhere near as odd as “adults” who use the phrase “icky time” Hmm
