Hermes shitty delivery

MissAntigua · 22/06/2018 19:12

I've ordered a few things from eBay and Amazon over the last few days. Hermes have tried 3 times to deliver something to me over the last 3 days and as I work, I've not been in. Most other places leave in a safe place or with a neighbour. This parcel has now been sent back to the originator and I have to rearrange and pay for delivery again. Thing is, I have no idea what it is they tried to deliver me as the calling card is blank!! No way of rearranging delivery, no contact details, only an automated number to contact them on.

AIBU to think that I don't have this issue with any other delivery service and that it's a bit of a joke?

Hermes as normally appalling

sexnotgender · 22/06/2018 19:14

Had a pain with DPD today. Saw the driver outside walking away so DH ran after him. Claimed to have the wrong address which is why he didn’t actually ring or door then wouldn’t give the stuff to DH as he’d already marked it as undeliverableAngry says he’ll come back with it tomorrow. I won’t be in tomorrow, arranged it for today as that’s when I was going to be in.

dudsville · 22/06/2018 19:15

Our hermes delivery people are a husband svelte wife tag team and they are brilliant. At 1st missed delivery they leave a mobile number and I have texted to say when I'll be in and they deliver. They are fabulous. Sorry you've bit got these guess doing your delivery op.

Liverbird77 · 22/06/2018 19:15

Yeah. Been waiting in all day and nothing.

Undercoverbanana · 22/06/2018 19:16

Hermes treat their staff appallingly. It’s no wonder they don’t give a shit. I boycott any company that use them.

Sorry you have this problem, though, OP. Don’t blame the staff, blame the bosses that make the rules.

MissAntigua · 22/06/2018 19:21

I blame the staff for not even being able to fill in a calling card. There's a clear box for a contact number to rearrange delivery, box for why the parcel was retained and not left at a, b, c, d, e location etc. I have a garden, a shed, a tonne of neighbours. They're the only company I've ever had issues with and it's been the same thing both times I've used them!

I had a card through the door from Hermes today. Said “next to trampoline”. Out I went into the garden, and there was my parcel, on the damp grass next to the trampoline. The only way they could have got close enough to the fence to throw it over to where it landed was to get into next doors garden first. So now they’re trespassing in order to deliver parcels badly Hmm
I’ve previously had food items (in labelled parcels) left in our bin. Lucky it’s wasnt bin day eh Hmm

House4 · 22/06/2018 19:21

Our Hermes man is amazing. He likes a good chat and is very well known in our area. He works so hard.

MissAntigua · 22/06/2018 19:31

They're absolutely rubbish in my area!

Undercoverbanana · 22/06/2018 19:41

MissAntigua - their drivers are self-employed and therefore not obliged to leave their private numbers on the card.

MissAntigua · 22/06/2018 19:46

They can buy a phone and get a free SIM card for a fiver. It costs them in fuel and time each time they try to redeliver it would probably save them a bit!

If they can't provide a service they shouldn't be doing the job! A delivery service where they just turn up at your house over and over, without leaving any way to arrange delivery or pick the item up from a safe place is madness and just end up sending it back to the originator is so backwards.

I always feel horrible moaning about it, because I know they're made to work under horrible and unreasonable conditions, but I've had some truly shocking service from both Hermes and DPD. Parcels left in bins, in the open while it's raining, left with a neighbour but the wrong house number written on the slip. Last week I found a 'sorry you were out' slip from DPD - there was not only me but three workmen in the house so we're certain there was no doorbell ring or knock.

MissAntigua · 22/06/2018 19:52

@MargaretCavendish what are the horrible conditions? Sounds awful.

Hermes delivered my parcel to an address 20 minutes away. I didn't know until I rang the retailer (big company) to pfind why tracking has just stopped - they knew and had told Hermes to collect and redeliver to me. Words were had and they agreed to replace. They must have told me 20 times that it was with an elderly lady so I assume they were trying to get me to feel sorry for her and go and collect it!!

So I have the replacement and the retailer keeps contacting me to see whether the original has reached me yet...

MissAntigua · 22/06/2018 19:59

Just SO crap. Is an eBay seller likely to refund me?

@dudsville I wonder if we live close by, ours is also a husband and wife team and they are awesome!

dudsville · 22/06/2018 20:19

Ooh! I don't want to disclose but if it is them they are fabulous aren't they?

I8toys · 22/06/2018 20:19

I love Nev my Hermes guy!

MargaretCavendish · 22/06/2018 20:27

My understanding is that the targets they're set for delivery time are completely unreasonable, so it's impossible for them to reach them and thus they earn below minimum wage. Same for Amazon (which is why, around me, you often see them literally running with the packages). They're also technically independent contractors so don't get sick or holiday pay and pay for their own fuel.

WigglyBlossom · 22/06/2018 20:28

Cheeky fucker Amazon driver parked on our drive to post a small envelope parcel through the letter box this afternoon. I live in a normal semi with a one car drive that was empty. So was the road and no parking restrictions.

EveningHare · 22/06/2018 20:35

its not your fault the item was not delivered - you havent got it - you need to request a refund if they dont send it all back

Wait, was the parcel for you or for a neighbour? If he parked at yours to post through a neighbour's door then you have a point but are being a bit petty. If the parcel was for you then you are wildly unreasonable.

Claudiawinksatmen · 22/06/2018 20:58

Dudsville - I too have a husband and (very glam ) wife Hermes tag team! They are super efficient and cheery and I feel very smug when I hear about others Hermes woes - I am in sunny Suffolk

lulu12345 · 22/06/2018 21:04

Are Hermes workers self-employed? My local guy is absolutely lovely.

thelastredwinegum · 22/06/2018 21:05

Fortunate that the one we have is pretty good & friendly when we are at home.
