About toe-nail painting?

I have just horrified my DP by explaining my ‘system’ for painting my toe nails to him. It’s the first time I have revealed this to him, and he is reeling as if I suddenly revealed that I eat small children for lunch.

So basically my system is this - I slap the varnish on in the general direction of my toe nails, and the next morning in the shower, I pick off any overspill that has gone on to the surrounding skin. I might use a nail brush if really necessary. Then, ta-dah! Perfectly applied toe nail varnish!

Honestly, am I the only person that does that and a blot on toenail-painting humanity, as my DP’s reaction would seem to imply, or is this sort-of normal?

I don't try to go on to skin but I do this with my nails. I find the morning shower and lotion does the trick!

UnderTheDesk · 20/06/2018 22:14

Oh yes, the body lotion also plays a vital part, I’d forgotten that. Smile

I try my best to aim for my toenails and it gets all round the sides and I am SO GLAD IT ISN’T JUST ME.

cmlover · 20/06/2018 22:16

you know you can get get this special stuff that you apply around the nail then peel away after your done.

it's drys like pva glue so is extra fun.

UnderTheDesk · 20/06/2018 22:22

It’s definitely not just you, user.

That does sound like fun, @cmlover, but is it really necessary? I’m thinking no. But please give me the name of it anyway, so I can test it’s necessariness for myself. Science, like. [Grin

Me, too ...

Elphabaisnotwicked · 20/06/2018 22:28

I do exactly the same as you OP!

chickhonhoneybabe · 20/06/2018 22:28

I’ve just done mine and my DDs toes and hands the exact same way! She complained a bit that it’s on her skin, so told her don’t worry it washes off in the shower! 😂😂

cmlover · 20/06/2018 22:30

lot easier and quicker then scrubbing the skin to get missed nail vanish off...espp for me as I'm crap at painting my nails...but can do my toes.. ...and more fun Grin

Oh! that''s genius. How have I lived 48 years without knowing this?

I faff about with a (nasty un-environmental) cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover but that needs almost as steady a hand as the painting or you end up removing it from the nail too.

Toptheginup · 20/06/2018 22:32

I had a nail polish remover pen I think it was by nails Inc, any mistakes and you just go around the edges with the pen.
There's all kinds of little nic nacks out there now to make life easier.
Scrubbing it off in shower is probs cheaper tho Grin

frustratedashell · 20/06/2018 22:33

Reading riot, Me too !

theladylovescupcakes · 20/06/2018 22:33

I do this too OP! Nobody looks too closely at toes! Grin

UnderTheDesk · 20/06/2018 22:34

Oh. That does look like a lot of fun. And for only £1.29! Sold, to the woman with the badly-applied nail varnish! Grin

Uncreative · 20/06/2018 22:35

That works???

Why hasn’t anyone told me this before now???

JustHereForThePooStories · 20/06/2018 22:35

I do the same, OP! Awful at painting my nails, and can never get a good angle to get all my toenails done properly.

If I know I’ll be wearing open-toed shoes on a Saturday, I’ll paint my nails Thursday night them shower Friday morning, then I wear socks and ankle boots to really get the friction going. Shower on Saturday morning and my tootsies are perfect!

Tonicwaterandgin · 20/06/2018 22:37

I do this too! Has to be overnight for it to work properly in my experience, and I favour a flannel over a nail brush!

NameyMcNameChange00 · 20/06/2018 22:37

Apart from my big toe my toenails look too small for my toe size. So I paint all around my nail until they look an acceptable size.

IlikemyTeahot · 20/06/2018 22:39

haha I do this too

cmlover · 20/06/2018 22:39

justhere.. I'm in awe of your dedication!

underthedesk. it reminds of being 7 at school at painting our hands with glue and peeling it off. simple times.

does any one, when wearing shoes that show 2 or 3 toes sometimes.. when feeling lazy or in a rush only paint them 3?;

OlennasWimple · 20/06/2018 22:40

Apart from my big toe my toenails look too small for my toe size. So I paint all around my nail until they look an acceptable size.

My little toes are a funny shape, so I paint the nail in a more acceptable shape so it doesn't look so odd Grin

UnderTheDesk · 20/06/2018 22:41

@Uncreative yes, it works, but only for toe nails for some strange reason. Don’t try it with your hand nails.

UnderTheDesk · 20/06/2018 22:46

Namey I have done similar when I’ve lost toe nails from running - just paint the skin where the nail should be. No-one has ever remarked on it (which is not to say they haven’t noticed, but anyway).

This is my method of toe nail painting, I've often looked at the latex stuff but I rather just go at my toes with the cheap white exfoliating gloves you get in the supermarket as it gets your toes nicely freshened up and the body lotion liberally applied at bedtime is essential to aid quick removal.

Mosaic123 · 20/06/2018 22:47

I do that too! It's the best way.
