About toe-nail painting?

I have just horrified my DP by explaining my ‘system’ for painting my toe nails to him. It’s the first time I have revealed this to him, and he is reeling as if I suddenly revealed that I eat small children for lunch.

So basically my system is this - I slap the varnish on in the general direction of my toe nails, and the next morning in the shower, I pick off any overspill that has gone on to the surrounding skin. I might use a nail brush if really necessary. Then, ta-dah! Perfectly applied toe nail varnish!

Honestly, am I the only person that does that and a blot on toenail-painting humanity, as my DP’s reaction would seem to imply, or is this sort-of normal?

Me too! I’m off on holiday on Sunday and this is my tomorrow or Friday night activity 😃.
I just keep my feet in a shallow bath for 10 mins and off the excess comes.

Toptheginup · 20/06/2018 22:49

Cmlover, I do! Especially if I'm in a hurry to go out for a night out. My nails are always the last thing I do, I will also touch up chipped nail polish with previous colour.
I also sometimes (usually winter when toes are not on display) like to grow the colour off as the nail grows, as a guideline as to how long overdue I am for night out ha

travailtotravel · 20/06/2018 22:51

Yes. Here. Me. Also perfect for slatternly touch ups.

charityhallet · 20/06/2018 22:52

I do this! I've even been spotted with my toes under the bathroom sink tap to set the polish so I can pick it off quicker!

ShatnersBassoon · 20/06/2018 22:52

I do this too. My eyesight, dexterity and flexibility aren't good enough to get precision. Full coverage and tidying up after is my best bet.

lottsagain · 20/06/2018 22:52

Wait I'm confused, why not use nail varnish remover for the overspill as opposed to picking it off, is your method not a massive faff/painful?

user1473878824 · 20/06/2018 22:52

As someone who only mastered hand nail painting at about 22 I can confirm it does work for hand nails but weirdly takes much longer?!

BillywigSting · 20/06/2018 22:55

Same.

Those little clean up pens are brilliant too. They're a quid in home and bargain. A cotton bud with a bit of nail polish remover on does the trick too.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 20/06/2018 22:56

I dunk my thumb in nail varnish remover and then use the thumbnail to scrape away any overspill. It's like magic.

BestZebbie · 20/06/2018 22:57

This is genius! I usually just paint the entire area of the end of my feet and then go round with a nail varnish remover pad folded up into a point, but as previously described, that also needs a steady hand so you don't remove too much abd end up trapped in an endless cycle of touch-ups.

rightknockered · 20/06/2018 22:59

I do this with my finger nails too. Look great after my morning shower. No need to pick at it if you use a flannel

charityhallet · 20/06/2018 23:01

@lottsagain, it's great, it just peels off to leave a perfectly painted nail. It's not sore and very quick!

EustaciaPieface · 20/06/2018 23:01

Me too! Sometimes a soak in the bath does the trick. I find it works for my finger nails too.

steff13 · 20/06/2018 23:01

I think it's normal. I try to keep up with pedicures, so I don't have to do it at all, but if I do it myself, I do the same as you.

How does your DP do his nails?

Uvegot2bkidding · 20/06/2018 23:02

Yup! Me too!

whymewhyme · 20/06/2018 23:04

Same!

ALemonyPea · 20/06/2018 23:04

OlennasWimple, my little toes are the same, but I just don’t paint them now. Nobody notices.

Genius idea though Op!

melodybirds · 20/06/2018 23:08

Shock but it's not hard to paint toe nails. I'm confused as surely that's harder than staying in the lines.

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 20/06/2018 23:10

I do this too. YANBU

UnderTheDesk · 20/06/2018 23:13

@steff13 He doesn’t. Do many men paint their toenails? Confused

OP posts:
RubyShooFan · 20/06/2018 23:17

Yep! Me too. Best way to do it

UsedtobeFeckless · 20/06/2018 23:21

Same here ... Quick pick after a shower and off come all the random bits!

Trilllllian · 20/06/2018 23:24

Yes me too- I do a second coat the next day unnecessary

steff13 · 20/06/2018 23:25

Do many men paint their toenails?

I don't think so. But I would be surprised to discover that someone who has never painted their toenails has an opinion on how it is/should be done.

Fabricwitch · 20/06/2018 23:29

I do pretty much the same. Toesnails always get painted before the shower, and fingernails afterwards!
You might need to remind your husband of some gross habits he has to bring him back down to earth! 😂
