My cat is missing. She normally comes back when called and lazes close by, but it’s been nearly two days and there’s no sign of her. Getting really worried as it’s so out of character - can people cheer me up with stories about how your cat came back? We’ve checked nearby sheds/garages, told neighbours, left her stuff outside to guide her home. Just feel a bit hopeless atm, plus the radio just played bring him home on the radio and I started ugly crying, so not a good day so far!

My tortie Molly went missing for 6 months!! Went for a hair cut and there she was sat under a tree a few streets away!!
Thin and sad looking but no injuries.
Wandered off a few times more before settling back properly.

Pebblespony · 20/06/2018 19:58

Mine went once. A week later he was found in a neighbours shed. Nosy cat had wandered in and then was afraid to come out again because of neighbours dogs. He was starving and filthy but nine the worse for wear.

I know people dont like facebook but they have lost and found pages for pets, and its surprising how many cats get reunited through them,

is the cat microchipped and address up to date as if someone finds him and takes him to a vet they will check for a chip

,put the contents of your hoover and his litter tray if he has one outside the back door,

my daughter in laws cat went missing for 5 days and he was put on local facebook page, turned out someone saw post and him and between them he got reunited, he was about four streets away, cats do wander a bit further in this weather.

Myotherusernameisbest · 20/06/2018 20:01

Mine vanishes on a semi regular basis. Longest was for 6 days. He's currently 'missing' again now but I've given up worrying.

Sleepyandtired21 · 20/06/2018 20:02

Sorry forgot to say have posted on several local groups, selling sites and lost cat ones too

Ours was gone for several weeks. Eventually someone from several suburbs away responded to an ad we had put in the classifieds, to say they had found a huge fluffy black and white tomcat making himself at home on their daughter's bed. We were like, "that's him!" and sure enough it was.

He was never quite the same after though - he used to be very adventurous but after we got him back he always stayed very close to the house and basically followed my mother around like a poor sad puppy!

Amanduh · 20/06/2018 20:04

My friends cat had been gone almost 6 weeks yesterday. All over facebook sites, groups, lost cats etc. Think most of us were fearing the worst. She walked down her road yesterday and he came sauntering along!! Now home safe.

MyNewAlias · 20/06/2018 20:04

A friend of mine has just had her missing cat turn up after 3 or 4 weeks. No idea where it had been all that time, but someone recognised her post from Facebook when they saw it in a park after a month.

Rosti1981 · 20/06/2018 20:04

6 weeks and I got a phone call from a vet saying they had our cat, someone had spotted him lurking round some bins looking skinny, about a mile from our house. He was chipped so we were easy to trace.

My stepsister's cat went missing for 1.5 years and turned up at a local school. Again chipped so easy to trace the owner once someone realised it was stray...

Fuzzieface · 20/06/2018 20:05

My fluffy face went missing a few years back, he never went out of his boundary point, but would always follow me to his point, and then head back or wait for me. However, one day when I parked my car quite far away from our house and he went just slightly past his point and I told him to go back in my cat language Wink and he sat there by the side of the road... I came home he wasn’t at home, went out called him no answer and no fluffy face Sad next day came and went still no sign.. We were due to go on holiday a few days later so we started putting posters up and knocking on doors, no sign of him. He’s a white cat so noticeable and well known in our cul de sac! We very very very very tearfully and reluctantly went on holiday (flights booked and everything) had my neighbours looking out for him and had our keys to our house. I received a text message couple days before our holiday saying they think he’s been sighted in their garden, rushed round there and called him but nothing Sad

isseywithcats · 20/06/2018 20:05

also contact all the local vets as they have a lost cat register usually so if she does end up at a vets they will have your details,

Crunchymum · 20/06/2018 20:07

My house cat, with no proper street level outdoor access barring 6 balconies managed to fall off one of the balconies (30ft) and then went AWOL for 2 days.

We put posters up and leaflets through letterboxes and went out every few hours with treats, calling her.

Found her in the end, hiding in a small gap between two detached houses a few roads away with a gash in her leg. £600 at the vets Shock

She's now a lot older and whilst I'd like to say she learned her lesson, she didn't!!

And everyone thought I was nuts to bother with pet insurance as she was a (relatively) young indoor cat.

Rosti1981 · 20/06/2018 20:08

And I was utterly distressed about it so I do recognise that awful feeling. Just do what you can with posters in local area, speak to local vets and cat rescue centres in case she is handed in, and get neighbours to check sheds and garages in case she's been locked in by mistake, make sure chip details (if chipped) have the right contact details for you. Do what you can, but remember they are pretty resilient creatures. It was out of character for our cat to go missing, and I was utterly distraught, but he was genuinely fine in the end, just somehow got himself lost and confused. He now has a collar tracker just in case it happens again...

Fuzzieface · 20/06/2018 20:08

Sorry clicked post too soon!
Went on our holiday and received another text a few days in and he’d been sighted in same garden! Neighbour went round with some crunchies shaking the box and he came straight out (Must remember to take crunchies Blush) she took him home and he was ok, very hungry but all good. Think he was just a little confused where he was and couldn’t work out how to get back. He was away for a week. It is such a worry, and I do hope your fluffy face appears soon.

egginacup · 20/06/2018 20:08

A few local cats have gone missing lately- advice on the local FB site was to scatter litter from her litter tray around the garden/ back door and also to go calling for her at dusk/ dawn. Not sure why then particularly, maybe that’s when they’re likely to be active or waking up?! Good luck, mine’s stayed out overnight a couple of times lately, it’s a horrible feeling Flowers

Matilda15 · 20/06/2018 20:11

A friend of mines cat went missing they tried everything to find him, posters, lost and found pages etc.

After 9 months they accepted he was gone and rehomed 2 cats. 3 months later they got a call, he’d been picked up as a stray 18 miles away and they’d scanned his chip!

After a phased introduction to the new cats all 3 have lived together happily for 2 years so far!

Deshasafraisy · 20/06/2018 20:13

My neighbours cat came back after 6 months!

LalaLeona · 20/06/2018 20:16

My cat was missing for 48 hours and my 7 year old was devastated. She was due to have an operation the next day and was really nervous and crying about the cat which didn't help. Out of the blue we got a call from a builder who rang the number engraved on our cat's collar tag. He was renovating a house round the corner and had found our cat hiding under the bed! She must have sneaked in while they were carrying supplies in (the front door had been open most of the day) I was SO happy it was like a miracle. Dd and I went straight round with the cat box to collect her and a massive box of chocolates for the builders!

Audree · 20/06/2018 20:18

My cat just got back - she was missing for 2 days as well.
She also gets “adopted” every couple of years; she’s a beautiful cat and very friendly, so people take her in. I found out she gets food from a couple of houses, also she had her own room for a while in a neighbour’s house.
Fortunately now people know she’s ours and they let her be.
I’m sure your cat will be back.

LalaLeona · 20/06/2018 20:18

As a child our cat regularly disappeared for weeks on end only to turn up again. Really hope your cat comes back soon

SparklyLeprechaun · 20/06/2018 20:18

My rescue cat disappeared for a few days the first time we let him out of the house. He came back by himself.
We had a cat who adopted us, just came in one day and settled in, I saw an ad after a good few weeks and called the owners, they only lived a few houses down the road. Apparently the cat had form for finding different homes.

susej · 20/06/2018 20:19

My cat was missing for 3 months! He came back very fat and shiny, I think someone stole him Grin

LadyOfTheCanyon · 20/06/2018 20:21

My mums cat disappeared for 3 days once. No idea why, she'd never done it before in any of her ten years. Just came sauntering along down the path as if nothing had happened and started demanding tuna.
Cats just seem to get the wind up em sometimes and take off. Try not to worry, odds are they'll come back in a day or so. Thanks

SabineUndine · 20/06/2018 20:22

One of mine disappeared for eight days. I’d given him up, done all my grieving and he just sauntered in. I think he’d been locked in a shed. He stayed very close to home for all of a month.
