My cat is missing. She normally comes back when called and lazes close by, but it’s been nearly two days and there’s no sign of her. Getting really worried as it’s so out of character - can people cheer me up with stories about how your cat came back? We’ve checked nearby sheds/garages, told neighbours, left her stuff outside to guide her home. Just feel a bit hopeless atm, plus the radio just played bring him home on the radio and I started ugly crying, so not a good day so far!

My cat disappeared a few times, he was the runt of the litter and always looked a bit bedraggled, even if he'd just been brushed, turns out the little shit had adopted another human with his pathetic mewing stray act. We only found out when we shut him in for a while because of an abscess and a lady a few roads over put out missing posters, the previous disappearances had been when she had been on holiday and booked him in to a cattery Grin

Our cat went walkies for a whole month, then just sauntered through the cat flap like it was nothing! Ate a bit of grub then curled up on the couch. She was fine, but a bit skinny.

TheWernethWife · 20/06/2018 20:24

After our move, one of ours went back to the old house about 14 times, crossed two busy roads as well. We'd get a call from our old neighbours saying he's back so off we'd trot with the cat carrier. One day he seemed to realise that he lived in a new house now and has not wandered since.

MyKingdomForBrie · 20/06/2018 20:27

Ours was gone for a week, we were totally beside ourselves - one evening my DH was downstairs in the living room and heard his (very distinctive!) and loudest ‘feed me!’ yowl - he was just standing in the hallway having cruised back in through the cat flap!

Absolutely no idea where he’d been, he didn’t look any worse for wear to be honest.

We tried a gps collar after that but he never kept it on.

Sleepyandtired21 · 20/06/2018 20:30

Just had a text from my boyfriend to say she’s just sauntered in! Honestly these cats, they don’t give a shit do they Grin

Ha I hadn’t read the whole thread and I see a few other cats have sauntered, that word must have been invented to describe cats..!

Our cat went missing for 8 days. It was the longest 8 days ever. Then he just sauntered back in through the back door. Skinny but fine. No idea where he was. He has stayed closer to home & been more affectionate ever since. I suggest walking round the roads near your house calling your cat. Hope he is home soon Thanks

My Mom's cat went missing for a week when she was about 11 years old, she's fully declawed, and has a heart condition, and a limp, she went missing in Texas in the countryside and we were beyond shocked that she turned up alive.

My Mom put posters up everywhere, posted in her neighbours group on Facebook, and put fresh food and water out around her house in several places, the last one seemed to do the trick.

The cat was filthy and bug bitten but not any less healthy then before, she was nicer to me after that, nice in her old bitter biddy way. Grin

"Just had a text from my boyfriend to say she’s just sauntered in!"

Sorry must have been writing while you posted that.

Congratulations on having her back. Smile

Our cat goes missing in summer.... for weeks on end. Returns in winter. Rain doesn't both it but will be back for any cool snap. Same pattern every year once he was about 3-4 years old

venetian25 · 20/06/2018 20:45

Glad you got him home!

Ours went missing for 6 weeks in the midst of a very cold winter.

Presumed dead after a couple of weeks, I got rid of all cat related things in the house and then out the blue I got a call from a vet to say they had him there.

He had been hanging round some offices for weeks until finally someone took him in to scan him for a chip - these bad boys are worth every penny!

Don't know how he ended up so far away as he doesn't venture far, can only presume he climbed into a couriers van as it was xmas time and lots of delivery vehicles in and out our cul de sac.

venetian25 · 20/06/2018 20:45

Sorry 'her'!

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 20/06/2018 20:47

Mine went and was gone for 3 days - worst days of my life. But he came back, slightly grubby and thin! I think he must have been shut somewhere. 2 days definitely isn't long for a cat in summer, so I would still think there is every chance she'll be back soon Flowers

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 20/06/2018 20:48

Ooh sorry! Got distracted cooking tea while commenting so didn't see your update! Very glad she's back Smile

TimeIhadaNameChange · 20/06/2018 20:55

I remember following this story at the time.

Glad she's home!

mrsdolittle · 20/06/2018 20:58

So glad he's home safe. Huge relief 😀

One of my previous cats went missing for a week between Xmas and New Year. He was only about 7 months old - a baby really. I was distraught - worst New Year ever. The weather was crap and I didn't think he stood a chance. Did all the Facebook stuff and pup up posters. Walked and ran for miles looking for him. Then after exactly a week he reappeared. We had gone to a friends for the evening just down the road but had to pop home for something (and have a cry because I was so sad). I let myself into the house and there he was waiting for me!! He was skinny, hungry and thirsty but fine. And sooooo glad to be home. I can still remember the absolute joy of having him home safe. I think he was locked in a shed or garage because although the weather had been awful he was clean and dry. He never strayed again but was hit by a car and killed about 18 months later. I still miss him every day 😢. I think he might have been the love of my life! But am nearly ready at try again and am on the lookout for a pair of kittens.

SimonBridges · 20/06/2018 21:01

So glad your kitty is home. I’ll share the story of a friend.

Her cat went missing so posters went up, notices on Facebook all that jazz. A couple of weeks later someone calls to say they’ve found him and it’s not good news.

She goes and fetches the cat and brings him home. The family then go out into the garden for a burial (you can see it coming can’t you).
So as they are stood there saying their tearful goodbye who should saunter in but their cat!

PutDownThatLaptop · 20/06/2018 21:01

Check any local places where people have moved out. My little cat went missing for days and then my husband realised that someone had moved out of their house in the next road. Their cat flap had been set to let their cat in before the move, but not to open to let it out. My cat was trapped inside.

SamHeughansLeftEyebrow · 20/06/2018 21:02

Was just talking about this with DH. Previous cat used to go in through all my neighbour's windows in the summer. I wouldn't see him for days. Everyone knew him and just used to kick him out at night except the odd occasion when he went somewhere new and his photo would pop up on FB. The last time, when he was very infirm, he went in through an unknown catflap and they kept him in. I was desperately hunting and calling for him. Eventually as I was posting a plea for any sightings, the person's son-in-law posted that his MIL had found this poor, uncared for/unloved cat, and they were taking it to the RSPCA. I replied to say that yes, he was dying, but very much loved and went and got him.

Current cat is completely unstreetwise. I panic if he is gone for more than a few hours.

Canshopwillshop · 20/06/2018 21:03

Ah, was just about to post my cat went missing story but I see yours is back - so pleased for you 😀

isseywithcats · 20/06/2018 21:07

Glad to see shes home xx

HemanOrSheRa · 20/06/2018 21:09

Ah lovely OP Smile.

One of mine is (or was) a wanderer. She went missing one February morning and didn't come home. We put posters up etc. I had a phone call in the July/August time from the Police. They had her at the station Grin. She'd been rescued by them and social services from a lady who was a hoarder/cat lover. The lady had 'taken her in' but wouldn't let her out. Pics of my cat were in the local police newsletter!

DesertIslandPenguin · 20/06/2018 21:11

My SILs cat went AWOL for about 6 months. Came slinking back one night really thin but fine.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 20/06/2018 21:37

Yay! Told you!
