Blood poisoning?

lonelywolf · 20/06/2018 18:12

DS (12) has got what I think is a boil near his spine. It was getting better but has suddenly got much larger and now has what I think is a tracking line from it around his torso. Picture is attached. Am I being paranoid or should i take him to the doctor. He seems ok in himself but his back is very sore and he says it hurts where the rash is. Not sure if I'm over reacting or not?

111, definitely! That looks nasty Sad

flakesaretasty · 20/06/2018 18:18

Could it be a pilonidal sinus? See a GP.

lonelywolf · 20/06/2018 18:20

I don't think it's that due to its location but I have no medical knowledge whatsoever so who knows? Am going to take him to the doctor.

Not sure it looks like blood poisoning but if that was either of my dd’s I would be straight to the walk in. Hope he gets sorted - looks sore, poor thing.

Benandhollysmum · 20/06/2018 18:22

no idea but I know people who get ingrown hairs at the bottom of their backs.i can’t even look at the picture sorry in case it is..it needs to be checked over by a Doctor or call up nhs 24 for advice

lonelywolf · 20/06/2018 18:24

Thanks. It's actually halfway up his back and not near the buttocks. We are just on our way to the walk in centre to see what they say.

I've had blood poisoning twice. My symptoms were fast heart rate. My temp dropped to 35 (hypothermic) I couldn't urinate and I felt like I was dying (an impending sense of doom.) If you're concerned get him seen.

Pinkgeorge · 20/06/2018 18:28

Gosh I hope he’s ok

chicken75 · 20/06/2018 18:29

Good luck, hope is all ok. I would be worried too xx

Benandhollysmum · 20/06/2018 18:31

I didn’t look.. I’ve a fear of ingrown hairs. Hope Whatever it is gets cleared up and he’s back to normal

Sparklesocks · 20/06/2018 18:32

Best take him to the GP for peace of mind - im sure he’s fine but just to put yourself at ease

frasier · 20/06/2018 18:35

It looks like a bite to me. Could he have been bitten?

frasier · 20/06/2018 18:40

Posted too soon. Meant to add the red line looks like lymphangitis, definitely see someone.

lonelywolf · 20/06/2018 18:43

When it first came up I thought it might have been a tick bite. But it's not like any bite I've seen before. Picture doesn't do it justice but it's really swollen as though it is full of pus that is just waiting to burst. Currently sat in car on the way to doctors. Joy of living in the countryside is that it's 45 minutes to the nearest place!

I got a bright red line up my arm and it was septicaemia- best to find out

frasier · 20/06/2018 18:50

Poor thing. Might need antibiotics. Hope they get it sorted quickly.

Sidge · 20/06/2018 18:59

Looks like an abscess. Needs antibiotics and possibly incision and drainage. Need to see a GP sharpish. Unlikely to be sepsis if he's otherwise well but it's certainly tracking so needs intervention.

HeGotManFlu · 20/06/2018 19:01

That looks painful, hope they sort it out quickly for him.

gnarlington · 20/06/2018 19:05

Wow, that looks sore Sad hope you get it sorted. (If it was me I would have burst it! Can't resist a good puss filled boil!)

glueandstick · 20/06/2018 19:09

Crikey that looks sore. Total non medic but I’d be getting it looked at sharpish.

Can’t imagine it’s a comfy car ride to the pit of hours! Good luck.

notapizzaeater · 20/06/2018 19:10

Ouch, looks painful. Hope they help

lonelywolf · 20/06/2018 19:16

Nurse seems to think it's an abscess with tracking rash. Currently waiting to see a doctor now. Poor kid.
