URGENT HELP- SLIME!!!!

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 13:55

I've just found DD7 has ruined a sofa!

She bought slime when out with babysitter and has left the whole lot directly on the sofa on 2 cushions.

The sofa is not washable and I don't want to pay £££ for professional cleaning, it's a fabric sofa with a velvety type flocking.

I can't find the pot the slime was in to get ingredients

Fairy liquid and water hasn't worked

White vinegar hasn't worked

DH is away til tomorrow for work and if I don't fix it by then he will commit Hari Kari !!

Any advice please. .. will post pics

Can you try that vanish carpet cleaner stuff?

clairethewitch70 · 20/06/2018 13:57

Try making a paste with some washing powder, and scrub it in as much as you can?

tripYouOut · 20/06/2018 13:57

try freezing it off (icecubes)

clairethewitch70 · 20/06/2018 13:58

Are the cushions machine washable?

bakingdemon · 20/06/2018 13:59

I presume DD will be getting an absolute bollocling and pocket money docked to pay for cleaning if needed?

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 14:00

Not machine washable but I will throw them in anyway if nothing else works

BaldricksTrousers · 20/06/2018 14:00

Why aren't the cushion covers machine washable? Just chuck em in the wash with some vanish, you can't ruin them more than they are anyway.

Or, take them to a dry cleaners.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 14:01

DD is lucky she is at school as she would be faced with monster mother. There will be consequences but DD doesn't earn enough pocket money to pay for this one

Rub some vanish into it before washing.

Passthecake30 · 20/06/2018 14:04

I'd try washing up liquid as slime always seems oily. Not sure how you'll get any of the colouring out though!

easterholidays · 20/06/2018 14:04

Depending on the design of the sofa and where the fastenings on the cushion covers are, can you (once you've exhausted all other possibilities) turn the cushion upside down so the slime is on the bottom?

Littleredboat · 20/06/2018 14:05

There’s a cleaner called Elbow Grease that’s always recommended in cleaning groups to get stains out of fabrics. Worth a try?

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 14:07

Vanish carpet doesn't work

HateSummer · 20/06/2018 14:07

I hate this stuff. My kids have left globs everywhere.

Surgical spirit is the best thing to get rid of the slime. It also gets rid of the colouring. I’m not sure if it’ll get rid of the stain though as it’s quite oily, but you could rub it in and see.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 14:17

This is after vinegar, carpet cleaner, neat fairy liquid. Nothing works; I am throwing them in washing machine. I can turn the cushions over if that doesn't work, I can't see what else would get it out, it feels really stiff and oily. Might try baking soda

Ice cubes to get rid of as many bits of slime as you can, then shaving foam is great for getting rid of slime stains on clothes, maybe it will work for a sofa?

flippyfloppyflower · 20/06/2018 14:21

I work with fabrics for a hobby so checked the information I hold. If any of the slime is still actually on there yo have to freeze it off first. Distilled white vinegar or rubbing alcohol are thought to be best. You just have to keep working at it slowly (no quick fixes I'm afraid to say) . Also without knowing the actual fibre you may also have some colour loss as well. This is a case of keep gently rubbing and praying Flowers not fun I know

ladybirdees · 20/06/2018 14:27

I know this sounds weird and may not work as you've used lots of other stuff on it by now but I had the same slime vs sofa situation and used the remaining slime I had in the pot to press into the sofa fabric and it pulled the stuff on the sofa clean away. Didn't leave a mark. Like dissolves like as it were....remembering my chemistry there. Slime is awful stuff though, especially once it's hard.

TantricTwist · 20/06/2018 14:31

I've put similar material sofa cushion covers in the wash and they came out absolutely fine.

This was after vanish and vinegar etc too on a cushion that had been covered in tons of stinky orange baby vomit.
I have however since bought a leather sofa so I dont have this issue any more thank god.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 14:33

I've given up, I'm shattered, everything stinks of vinegar and nothing made even the slightest bit of difference. I've thrown the 2 covers on a 60 degree wash as to be fair they can't get any more ruined. I am fuming.

I'm off to research replacement upholstery, I don't think God himself could remove this crap Angry

MatildaTheCat · 20/06/2018 14:36

This happened to me, this exact thing. I think professional cleaning did help the sofa. The bed linen was left with black splodges forever.

It awful stuff that should be banned from the planet.

Rikalaily · 20/06/2018 14:38

Every sofa I've had says covers not machine washable. I just throw them in anyway, and in the dryer and they have been fine!

I feel your pain, I've had an almost new stairs and landing carpet ruined with slime, it's banned from the house now.

Mari50 · 20/06/2018 14:40

Depends if it’s homemade slime or bought as to ingredients, home made is probably easier to deal with although when my daughter got it on my old sofa after three hours of using a big ball of the same slime to help remove it and a needle to pick it out of the flock I gave up and turned the cushion over- forever.
My dd also left some putty on the arm of the sofa once and it must have had some kind of solvent in it as it left a grease stain that couldn’t be removed no matter what I did. I put a coaster over that .......
I now have a new sofa and smuggler and a strict ‘get the fuck out of my lounge with your slime and associated shit- I don’t care if you’re playing with it on the floor, get out’ and that seems to be working so far......

Mari50 · 20/06/2018 14:41

Snuggler! Bloody autocorrect is really trying my patience today......
