URGENT HELP- SLIME!!!!

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 13:55

I've just found DD7 has ruined a sofa!

She bought slime when out with babysitter and has left the whole lot directly on the sofa on 2 cushions.

The sofa is not washable and I don't want to pay £££ for professional cleaning, it's a fabric sofa with a velvety type flocking.

I can't find the pot the slime was in to get ingredients

Fairy liquid and water hasn't worked

White vinegar hasn't worked

DH is away til tomorrow for work and if I don't fix it by then he will commit Hari Kari !!

Any advice please. .. will post pics

Argghh! I feel your pain I have a carpet ruined by this bloody stuff Angry I'm thinking I'll just have to replace the carpet to be honest

Bumble1830 · 20/06/2018 14:45

Make a paste using bicarb and hot water?
If all else fails, flip it over and hope dh never see's it 🙂

WillyWasAWatchdog · 20/06/2018 14:45

Most slime is made from glue - nail varnish remover (with acetone) will dissolve it. Soak the area for a few minutes with the nail varnish remover then put it in a bowl of warm washing water with detergent and scrub with a nail brush.

ThatsPoker · 20/06/2018 14:48

Boiling water and leave to soak! Should dissolve the patches. My second go to would have been white vinegar... sorry that didn't work.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 20/06/2018 15:13

I’ve told my dds that slime is banned in this house. They kept nicking stuff from the pantry and bathroom cupboards to make the bloody stuff. I kept mysteriously running out of cooking ingredients and then finding an almighty mess in their bedrooms. They have been warned. Hmm

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 20/06/2018 15:16

Surgical spirit worked well here but that was on clothes not sofa.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 15:34

I have never allowed any of DC to buy slime but had no say as I wasn't there, I was at wedding.

Covers are still in machine, I never considered acetone, I do have a bottle upstairs. Worth a go if no better after the wash. I wonder if I can get replacement covers for a 7 year old next sofa?

DD is going on an indefinite sweets ban and no pocket money until she redeems herself

I've used Sticky residue remover to shift slime before.
Think it was the Lakeland one.

crispysausagerolls · 20/06/2018 16:16

It’s a shame that you put them in the wash as I always think once something has been washed it’s harder to remove the stain! Otherwise I would’ve suggested soaking in vanish+warm water for several hours and THEN washing. Hope it comes out!!!

Firesuit · 20/06/2018 16:22

We have a sofa-covering throw that has a hard patch on it that DD says was slime. Washing did not remove it.

Swayingsilverbirch · 20/06/2018 16:25

Had the same problem on s new sofa. WD40 is the bizarre answer. It removes the slime and oil stain. Google it, lots of examples on YouTube

homelyhomer · 20/06/2018 17:03

I'd chance the washing machine. I have supposedly "dry clean only" cushions but when DS has a potty training accident I decided to risk it and put it in the wash on a delicate wool wash and they were absolutely fine.

Loyaultemelie · 20/06/2018 17:03

Baking soda made into a paste with warm water left on for a few minutes bloody ages then scrub off with a nail brush and put more dry baking soda on then hoover it off and wash with yet more vinegar, will make good inroads to zapping it but I don't think anything ever totally gets rid

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 20/06/2018 17:07

washing up liquid rubbed in neat would be my first choice, seems to work on most greasy stains I have even had, then again I have never had slime but worth a try if the machine washing fails.

HolidayHelpPlease · 20/06/2018 17:45

Any joy OP? How do they look after was wash?

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 20/06/2018 17:50

I’ve used WD40 to get it before - it leaves a bit of a grease stain which I’ve then smothered in washing up liquid to remove.

IlikemyTeahot · 20/06/2018 17:52

elbow grease...test on a hidden bit first

Baby wipes. They fix everything

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 18:00

After the wash. And now the machine needs cleaning out too.
DD is home and out of my way for now, this nasty smiggle goo is the culprit. Dd12 says this is different to slime.

The stain feels greasy so I have been to supermarket and bought stain devil oil and fat remover and got that on now. Will report back!

Bit late but, I have that sofa! Next, yeah? I am always chucking the covers in the washing machine when one of the kids has weed on it or something. Comes out fine. Though looks like it might be a case of turning it over the other way this time...Hmm

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 20/06/2018 18:14

Single - got any spare cushions? Grin
