Post Office opening times

Hi, probably a stupid question, but do Post Offices open on a Sunday? I checked the Post Office website and looked up the opening times for my local Post Office and it states Sunday 8.00 am to 1.00 pm. I thought, great, drove up there and Martin's the newsagent which is located in the same premises was open but the Post Office counters were shut.

No, they don’t.

Butterflykissess · 17/06/2018 10:08

my local collection office is but not the post office.

Jasmina456 · 17/06/2018 10:09

Nope

Stephisaur · 17/06/2018 10:12

Not usually. As far as I was aware, there are no postal services on Sundays.

TheSplash · 17/06/2018 10:15

Thanks everyone, I will wait until tomorrow.

Our main one does, but fewer hours. No collection though.

Ni58 · 17/06/2018 10:17

There’s one in an Asda near us that’s open on a Sunday.

Ifailed · 17/06/2018 10:18

Apparently there are 1,600 post offices that now open on a sunday, but of course there doesn't seem to be a way to find out which ones?

margotsdevil · 17/06/2018 10:19

Post Offices can choose to open but there wouldn't be a mail collection. If they are advertised as open though they are in breach of contract if they aren't - a post office like that is a sub post office which is a contract with the post office proper.

smashhits90s · 17/06/2018 10:20

We have a post office that opens on a Sunday, it's a bit of a drive though.

The one in McColls by us is open from 7am until 10pm on Sundays. It's really handy.

bigbluebus · 17/06/2018 10:26

Ours does because it is part of the village shop so it is open for the same hours (9-2 on Sun). There are no collections though so everything sits there until Monday.

4GreenApples · 17/06/2018 10:28

Depends where the post office is I guess.

My nearest “post office” is a counter in a local corner shop - they will serve customers at the post office counter on Sunday’s, but they’re open for fewer hours and any parcels etc you give them on the Sunday won’t be collected until the Monday.

Schroedingerscatagain · 17/06/2018 10:33

Google your local area,we have 2 that do open on Sunday

Andrewofgg · 17/06/2018 10:42

We had a sub-post office in a supermarket which did; but it stopped. The manager told me that the Post Office insisted they closed on Sunday and that the Post Office comes under pressure from the UCW who don’t want it because it is competition for the Crown post offices which are staffed by their members and of course don’t open on Sunday or Saturday afternoon and keep you waiting till 9.30 on Tuesday.

ButDoYouAvocado · 17/06/2018 10:46

Lots of post offices do. They are usually a subcounter in a newsagent. My lical one is open 8-11 every day. Super handy as i do my banki g there. You'll just need to google it.

ApolloandDaphne · 17/06/2018 11:02

Our nearest one is located in a Spar and is open long hours every day including a Sunday.

ForalltheSaints · 17/06/2018 11:21

Most don't. Very few open Saturday afternoons, lucky mine does. The Post Office/Royal Mail is only just beginning to recover from the era of Adam Crozier and Allan Leighton, where a lot of post offices were closed. Sadly they lost the plot about customer service at that time, though I blame those who appointed those two people.

Witchend · 17/06/2018 11:31

Our tiny local one does. It's open more hours than any other place round here-weekdays it opens at 6am.

Not sure why. There's rarely even one person at the counter when I go in.

PoirotDidIt · 17/06/2018 11:49

I think there's a rule in post offices that they have to have at least twice as many counters as staff...

Went into town nice and early the other day, to catch the 9am collection. Turned ot post office didn't open until 9am and there was no collection at that time (but there is from the other post office out of town Hmm). The lady told me the next collection would be "after lunch".

"Oh, what time?"
"After lunch".

"Right... so er, 1pm? 2pm?"
It's usually after lunch".

"Okay, what time is 'after lunch'?"
"All I can tell you, is it usually gets collected after lunch"
....
ARGHHHHH

It seems impossible to find out times online - I've noticed all the post boxes get emptied at different times too...

Difficult in ours. We only have one counter. Grin

Amanduh · 17/06/2018 17:24

Ours does!

stabbybitch · 17/06/2018 17:37

My local one is inside our onestop & is open the same times as the shop so 6.00am - 10.00pm every day.

BlueJava · 17/06/2018 17:59

No :( If I want to send something on a Sunday I just use Collect+, Shutl or myhermes and pay on line and take it to a local store. The Post Office is quite old fashioned imho, no wonder other companies are getting what was originally their core business.
