A CF parking on my drive!

Meganj95 · 15/06/2018 20:30

Soooo I've seen all the threads about CF's and their cars and today I'm here to share mine 🤣
So I moved into a new house last week. It's a townhouse with a drive for one car underneath (think garage without a door underneath the house). Different people seem to think they're entitled to my driveway. I've been saying at my mums 50/50 as we have a young baby and the house needs refurbing. So probably 3 out of the 5 days We've been here I come over in the morning and there is a white car parked in the drive. Couldn't figure out who it was til my cousin was over and saw him getting into his car (after being parked on my drive all night til 11am!) and confronted him. He lives in the flats across the road and down a bit. This morning I came over and someone different was in he space but sat in his car so told him to move. Once I'd parked I saw the white car coming in looking to park in my space again (it's sort of a cul-de-sac type thing) but went on to go in someone else space as I was in mine. These spaces are exclusive to each house and it is included in our rent. What would you do?

Put a sign up that reads, ‘illegally park cars will be towed at car owners expense’.

Sweetpea55 · 16/06/2018 04:58

Way ta go Fiesty,!!!

EmMcK · 16/06/2018 05:27

I have nothing useful to add except to say that the perspective on the diagram was awesome

MadameGerbil · 16/06/2018 05:43

You can buy yellow windscreen stickers that look like parking tickets on amazon. I've also seen cardboard looky likely wheel clamp which scares the cheeky Parker!

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/06/2018 05:46

Feisty, can we bestow on you the honorary title of Dame of Mumsnet Parking Threads for services to anti parking cheeky fuckery? 👏👏👏👏

ImPreCis · 16/06/2018 08:40

Feisty you are a true Peoples Champion. You are awesome, I hope I can be like you some day soon.
Just at the time that we (older) women get ignored you are standing strong and dealing with these CFs in a way that they understand, through their wallets!

Biker47 · 16/06/2018 08:50

Yes, but calling a towing company to tow a car away is not a free service.

Also they likely won't touch it once you mention it's not your car and you don't have the keys for it, also where they going to tow it to exactly?

LakieLady · 16/06/2018 08:50

Fabulous diagram, OP, this is the first time I've seen a 3D diagram on a parking thread.

It's a shame skip hire is so expensive. As you're refurbing your house, a skip would be handy and it would be hilarious to block the car in with a skip. The CF would have to pay the skip company to come and move it so he could get his car out and then put the skip back again.

FeistyOldBat as another FOB, your post is brilliant and thank you for sharing the info about DVLA. I had no idea that the DVLA would release that info, and for a mere £2.50 that's a bargain to a nosy bugger like me.

bellabasset · 16/06/2018 11:03

I love Feisty's post.

There is no way that you wouldn't know this space was private. How about removing the no plates, sticking them in your front room window and charging £50 for parking.

Are you able to fit gates across? Or would you need to remove paving or drive?

DevilsDoorbell · 16/06/2018 11:09

Way to go feisty

Orangecake123 · 16/06/2018 11:16

@FeistyOldBat I think I love you and want to be more like you!!!!!!!

FeistyOldBat · 16/06/2018 11:38

Fellow Mumsnetters – thank you! We are awesome. Grin For you WineWineWineGinGinWine

We need to bring back the public stocks as a punishment for CF-ery, and have a public hall of shame, with photos, names, addresses and employer details if any, for drivers who steal parking benefits on other people's property. I'd be worried, though, that self-entitled twats might turn violent in revenge.

VQ1970 · 16/06/2018 11:38

Chuck some stuff out from an upstairs window - tell them you thought the drive would be empty because you obviously hadn’t parked in your own space.

beargrass · 16/06/2018 11:47

feisty!! 👏🏻

endofthelinefinally · 16/06/2018 11:51

Chuck birdseed or bread crumbs over it. The birds will love it and eat the evidence with their sharp little beaks.

PuppyMonkey · 16/06/2018 11:54

Feisty wins the internet. Grin

SaltyPeanut · 16/06/2018 12:13

Wait until one of them does it again, park yours behind it, then get a taxi to your mum's because I personally think you have been working too hard and need a weeks holiday at your mum's house including a break from all that pesky exhausting driving.

That'll teach the CF.

GaraMedouar · 16/06/2018 12:25

Feisty Feisty Feisty!!!! 👍

AlessandroVasectomi · 16/06/2018 14:06

From your description, OP, I thought you meant that you had a driveway immediately in front of your underneathy space and that CF was parking on that. But you mean he was parking in the underneathy bit! That takes a special type of brass neck. How could any intelligent person assume the right to park there?

We own a flat as an investment property and it has an allocated parking space. Our tenants have just moved out and I need to go round and see if anything needs refreshing before we consider re-letting. Parking spaces are at a bit of a premium and I bet that when I go round, somebody will have spotted that the tenants are no longer there and will be parked in our space.
