OK.

I asked a small independent gift shop if they were doing any gift packages for Fathers Day.
They replied that they were and with the options. I chose a hamper type product.
Shop owner told me that the hamper contained w, x, y and z. (think along the lines of whisky, a cup, sweets, socks type things)
When I asked them yesterday afternoon when it would be ready they said they hadn't been able to find one of the products they had offered so would knock the cost off or I could try and find one myself and bring it in. I haven't got time to said just to leave it out.
My Mum collected last night and paid for me so I wasn't there but I've just looked at the receipt she got and they have knocked the item cost off but charged me for petrol for looking for the item they couldn't find one of.

I'm slightly miffed at this. It's only a couple of pounds and I had asked for it fair enough but it was offered as part of the package!

Aibu to feel this is a bit cheeky?

They are indeed. Ask for a refund.

RanchoRelaxo · 14/06/2018 08:16

Haha that is cheeky! How is it your fault they couldn't find the item! They shouldn't have put it in their package deal in the first place
For the sake of a few quid though I don't think I would do anything about it

Travis1 · 14/06/2018 08:18

That is really fucking cheeky!

sparklepops123 · 14/06/2018 08:22

Yes ask for refund, unbelievable!

TheHobbitMum · 14/06/2018 08:23

Wow, CF shop owners! I'd have to call for a refund that is unbelievable Shock

nottinghillgrey · 14/06/2018 08:24

Oh shame them on their social media page for that! Serious CFery

MrsMozart · 14/06/2018 08:24

CF indeed!

The80sweregreat · 14/06/2018 08:27

Unbelievable! I would query it at least.

JustGettingStarted · 14/06/2018 08:27

YANBU!

LifeBeginsAtGin · 14/06/2018 08:30

Id put something on SM saying they offered an item which they couldn't fulfill but then charged you for trying to find it.

Laiste · 14/06/2018 08:30

What!? Shock

I'd ring them and say you want that charge refunded or you'll go straight to trading standards.

I've never heard anything like it!

Laiste · 14/06/2018 08:31

Yes, threaten TS, face book and twitter as well.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 14/06/2018 08:31

Unless you agreed to this charge up front, they are completely unreasonable.

notapizzaeater · 14/06/2018 08:34

They can't charge you for petrol ⛽️ can you imagine if Tesco did that ?

NoSquirrels · 14/06/2018 08:34

That’s obviously bonkers - they offered you a item, you said yes, they then couldn’t fulfill it but charged you for their time & petrol?

That’s like going into a restaurant, ordering a particular dessert, the kitchen running out of an ingredient so no dessert but charging you for the chef’s time looking in the fridge & the waitress’s time taking the order!

TheMaddHugger · 14/06/2018 08:41

Unbelievable Confused

Sickofpeople · 14/06/2018 08:43

Thank you! I thought I was going mad.

So say the item was a flask, they have refunded me £10 but then took £3 for petrol.
I queried this morning by Facebook and she said it was because she went to three shops in her car looking for the flask.
Confused

That is massively cheeky. It's their job to have what they have advertised in stock, and to manage stock levels. The costs of doing so should be factored into the initial cost of the product, not added as an "extra".

Ask for a refund.

AllStar14 · 14/06/2018 08:52

YANBU!! That's so fucking cheeky! I honestly don't understand some people. Make sure you get a refund, doesn't matter that it's only a few pounds.

Zaphodsotherhead · 14/06/2018 08:54

That is hugely odd. Is the shop owner, perhaps, new to retail?

It's like me being off-shift, a customer asking me if we've got any lettuce, me going out the back to the warehouse to look, and then charging the customer for my time!

Very weird behaviour.

NoSquirrels · 14/06/2018 08:55

They did offer you the item though, didn’t they?

You didn’t put specific requests in on it e.g. must be gold-plated and personalised to Bob?

If they agreed to source something particular and very specific perhaps they have an argument but even so it’s pretty cheeky!

Orangecake123 · 14/06/2018 08:57

Don't let them get away with it!

Ask for a refund.

Loonoon · 14/06/2018 09:03

That's ridiculous. And why small independent shops go out of business.

KinkyAfro · 14/06/2018 09:04

The flask was part of the package offered nosquirrels so they should have made sure they had it in stock, it's no surprise that it's Father's Day on Sunday.

billybagpuss · 14/06/2018 09:05

This would make me quite angry, they offered a service which they couldn't complete then charged you for the privilege of them being unable to complete it.

If you can be bothered you could continue to argue with them but to be honest I think I would just put 1 start reviews on every available review site entitled 'Charged me fuel for an item they could not fulfil!'
