OK.

I asked a small independent gift shop if they were doing any gift packages for Fathers Day.
They replied that they were and with the options. I chose a hamper type product.
Shop owner told me that the hamper contained w, x, y and z. (think along the lines of whisky, a cup, sweets, socks type things)
When I asked them yesterday afternoon when it would be ready they said they hadn't been able to find one of the products they had offered so would knock the cost off or I could try and find one myself and bring it in. I haven't got time to said just to leave it out.
My Mum collected last night and paid for me so I wasn't there but I've just looked at the receipt she got and they have knocked the item cost off but charged me for petrol for looking for the item they couldn't find one of.

I'm slightly miffed at this. It's only a couple of pounds and I had asked for it fair enough but it was offered as part of the package!

Aibu to feel this is a bit cheeky?

Yes Squirrels. When I asked she said she was doing several packages.
Just a rough example like
Package one : Tie, hip flask, beer, socks
Package two: whisky, sweets, flask, socks, cup.
Package three, beer, biscuits, cup, bottle opener, teddy.
Or whatever

Tbh it would cost more in petrol to get money back but I will leave a review.

I’m totally baffled at the idea that she thinks she can invoice you for the petrol!
Even more that she thinks it’s worth loosing a customer, and damage her image for £3.

Refund of course! Outrageous!

watchingwithinterest · 14/06/2018 09:16

Call them and ask to do the refund over the phone or send you a cheque. No way should they have charged.

Use the bad review as a last resort if they refuse to refund you.

BottleOfJameson · 14/06/2018 09:16

YANBU. Very unprofessional. Sourcing the items they advertise is their problem not yours, you shouldn't have to pay for them that for items they do manage to find, let alone ones they don't!

expatinscotland · 14/06/2018 09:18

They are CFers!

nottinghillgrey · 14/06/2018 09:20

Use the bad review as a last resort if they refuse to refund you.

I disagree. The refund wouldn't be my biggest issue in the OP situation. The sheer cheeky fuckery deserves a bad review. If the OP gets a refund and doesn't review that leaves these CF's open to doing it over and over again.

My priority would be stopping that from happening.

troodiedoo · 14/06/2018 09:29

I've never heard the like! CF of the highest order.

neveradullmoment99 · 14/06/2018 09:31

NO way! Send the whole lot back and buy him something else. Shocking.

Luisa27 · 14/06/2018 09:31

Really poor customer service Shock

spanishwife · 14/06/2018 09:38

That's mental!! Does she think she is a concierge service?!

Bibesia · 14/06/2018 09:40

Point out that you had a concluded contract at the agreed price less the cost of the item in question, and you expect them to honour their contract.
