Second child "apron"

peoplearemean · 10/06/2018 21:15

Ok so baby 1 I lost all my weight but was never the same shape. Baby 2 not lost the weight and now have what I call my "apron" of loose fat hanging down where my bump was. Has anyone lost the apron successfully? How???

(Ps yes I know not an AIBU but AIBU to ask if you know what I mean by apron?!)

Watching with interest! My tummy is still convex rather than my previous concave and firm torso! (Admittedly baby 2 is only 10 weeks and I have DR - separation of my abs which is slowly returning) so I was going to give it 6 months before panic booking a tummy tuck...

peoplearemean · 10/06/2018 21:34

@stuckficks oh mate 10 weeks I hope you have time, I'm talking 3 years! 😂😂 but honestly I have tried everything I did with baby 1, it's just not working! Seriously thinking I need it sliced off (but I'm a wuss and never would do that!)

Also watching! I was back to pre-pregnancy size six weeks after DC1 was born.. Still a stone over with DC2 who is now nearly 3 months.. And yes, with the apron!! Grin Both were csections so that is probably contributing.. Oh and of course the huge reduction in any free time or energy to think about exercise and eating healthily...

ShowOfHands · 10/06/2018 21:38

I exercise v regularly and have excellent abs. V strong core, run, lift weights, cycle etc. I am a small size 8 with a BMI of 20. Last DC 6.5yrs ago.

The apron will not go. Nothing but surgery will shift it.

peoplearemean · 10/06/2018 21:41

@ShowOfHands oh no, there is no hope for me then sobs into glass of wine

I had my 3rd baby in 2007 and was left with an apron of skin. I had a tummy tuck and abdominal muscle repair in 2009.

peoplearemean · 10/06/2018 21:42

@MuddlingThroughLife worth it? Anywhere you would recommend/avoid?

I'm the same as ShowOfHands - size 8, 8st, bmi 20, but I have an apron. My 2YO sometimes kneads my belly like it's a piece of dough!

MuddlingThroughLife · 10/06/2018 21:50

@peoplearemean Definitely worth it and I was extremely lucky enough to get it done on the NHS the main reason for approval being the need for abdominal muscle repair.

GiddyGardner · 10/06/2018 21:52

Jesus, I haven't ever given birth and I have this, I stand no chance! Give yourselves a break, your bodies have done amazing things and gone through a lot of trauma, you are amazing and your bodies are amazing.

Mamawingingit1234 · 10/06/2018 21:55

I call mine my bum bag!

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 10/06/2018 22:03

Mine has gone in the past 3 years though I did wish for a tummy tuck before.

Did loads of Pilates and Ashtanga yoga. Daily exercises. Lost weight (BMI 21, was 26 before).

But my youngest child is 19. So it did take a lot of time😁

Buggeritimgettingup · 10/06/2018 22:11

I've got 6 kids.......im fucked 😂

ohtheholidays · 10/06/2018 22:14

Mine's going,I've had 5DC but I started slimming world a couple of months ago and along with the weight my apron is also going.

The only exercising I've been doing is walking and gardening.

Lulusmother · 10/06/2018 22:16

My youngest is 22. Still got mine ! 🙄

underneaththeash · 10/06/2018 22:18

Not me either - lovely flat stomach after DC1, but after the other 2 - it never went back.

peoplearemean · 10/06/2018 22:22

@Mamawingingit1234 bumbag 😂

Stillwishihadabs · 11/06/2018 07:46

I am thinking I've been lucky, either that or I'm blind

Stillwishihadabs · 11/06/2018 07:48

Actually I have done yoga/ Pilates since pregnant with dc1 so maybe that's it ( BMI 22 for anyone that cares)

Halebeke425 · 11/06/2018 07:54

After 2nd DC I lost lots of weight (like 6 stone) got really fit and it was going. I think if I'd kept up the lower ab work (pilates, yoga, hiit training, weights) it would be non existent. However since then I put on weight and had a 3rd DC and it's back with a vengeance! I'm thinking surgery is my only hope now Blush one day, when I can afford it, it'll be my little treat to myself!

DavetheCat2001 · 11/06/2018 08:14

Pilates and running will help sort it out.

stuckficks · 11/06/2018 09:17

@MuddlingThroughLife out of interest how wide was your separation for it to be fixed? I've got chronic back ache with mine and two under 19 months I'd love it to be fixed!!

MuddlingThroughLife · 11/06/2018 14:08

@stuckficks I could fit my fist between my muscles when trying to do sit ups.

stuckficks · 11/06/2018 17:13

Ah thanks for letting me know so that's about 4-5cm? Mine is down to three from 6.5cm so maybe I wouldn't qualify. Booooo!!

MuddlingThroughLife · 11/06/2018 19:00

Yeah I'm guessing around 5cm. You've done well so far!
