to think this isn't normal? *pic*

Since I've been pregnant I've suddenly developed hair all over my belly. Not just fluffy hair that my friends have told me about, but pubic hair all the way up to my belly button.
AIBU to think this is not nice/normal and to want to ask how I best remove it? Sad

It’s because it IS pubic hair. Your pubic area has expanded as your belly grows.

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 20:10

@Mirrorwriting I don't think my existing hair follicles have moved up to my belly button. This is definitely new hair, not my pubic region expanding (not sure how that would work as I have a few hairs almost above my belly button!).

It's normal. ☺

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 20:11

So glad @Cleanermaidcook - I really hate it!

It’s just a bit of hair get over it.

Your body isn’t going to be the same post baby...

OrchidInTheSun · 08/06/2018 20:11

It's completely normal. Honestly, your body will change beyond all recognition in the next few months. Best to just accept it tbh

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/06/2018 20:12

I don’t think it’s particularly normal, actually. The only time I had that issue was when my polycystic ovary syndrome was not under control. Definitely hormone-related so worth speaking to your GP.

TheOriginalEmu · 08/06/2018 20:13

i have it. have done since i had children.

Waitingonasmiley42 · 08/06/2018 20:13

Whether pregnant or not it's completely normal for some women.

You are probably easiest leaving it alone and it'll fall out once your hormones settle down after birth. Shaving will make it stubbly and waxing I wouldn't recommend.

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 20:14

@Worieddd it's difficult seeing your body change in different ways. This is something I am self conscious about. I don't think it's particularly kind to say 'get over it' - I just wanted to know if it was normal or not.

foxpox · 08/06/2018 20:14

Darker skinned/haired women sometimes get a darkened line from belly button downwards but it's pigmentation changes, not hair. You could mention it to midwife when you see them but really, pregnancy does sooooo many weird and horrible things to our bodies it is likely to just be something you'll live with until it goes!

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 20:14

@TheOriginalEmu do you just leave it? Or prefer to remove?

lollypop13 · 08/06/2018 20:15

Totally normal. I didn't get any with DS but my sister did with hers - you could plait it! Fell out a couple of weeks after her DS was born 😁

MrsPreston11 · 08/06/2018 20:15

Yup normal.

Even now (youngest is 5) I have a single pube that grows only belly halfway between my pubes and belly button. Confused

Littledidsheknow · 08/06/2018 20:15

I don't think it's normal either. I'm a dark hairy woman, been pregnant 5 times but this has never happened to me... my pubic area stayed exactly where it was below bump. Not seen anyone else with a hairy bump either.

Might there be a hormonal issue worth exploring with GP, OP?

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 20:15

@foxpox that makes sense as I am White/Caribbean and have the line! I'm hoping it's not permanent from now on..

OP posts:
MrsPreston11 · 08/06/2018 20:16

I also think I’m more hairy in general since motherhood. But maybe its an age thing too?

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 20:17

Hmm. Some think it's normal and some not. I know some women have lots of fine hair, but just not this thick pubic hair. It really want rid, but also want to know it's not due to something more worrying that's masked by pregnancy...

mayhew · 08/06/2018 20:18

Most people get hairier when they are pregnant. Welcome on head. Less so elsewhere.

Mandraki · 08/06/2018 20:20

Totally normal. Since having my baby I’ve had pube type hairs on the backs of my thighs, truly an attractive look. So count yourself lucky 🙈 hopefully it will go once you’ve had your baby if it bothers you!

Bambamber · 08/06/2018 20:20

Its totally normal. Just like everything else pregnancy related, some women get it some women don't. Just because some people haven't had it, it doesn't mean it's not normal.

My midwife recommended leaving it well alone and it would get better post pregnancy. Took a while but she was right

tillytoodles1 · 08/06/2018 20:20

When I was having my son I had a hairy line from my pubes to my navel, and hairs between my boobs. I shaved the ones between my boobs and the others fell out once he was born, I didn't notice when, just one day when he was a few weeks I realised they'd gone.

Littledidsheknow · 08/06/2018 20:21

I'm saying it never happening to me, but then again what did happen to me during my 1st pregnancy was the beginning of a few thick moustache hairs... I mean proper ones. Gross.
I guess it's true what others say about different people being affected... differently.

Littledidsheknow · 08/06/2018 20:21

*happened

Brainfogmcfogface · 08/06/2018 20:22

I got it.. and sorry to say it never went post pregnancy. My lo is nearly 4. I just teeeze as often as needed.
