to think this isn't normal? *pic*

Since I've been pregnant I've suddenly developed hair all over my belly. Not just fluffy hair that my friends have told me about, but pubic hair all the way up to my belly button.
AIBU to think this is not nice/normal and to want to ask how I best remove it? Sad

Are you freaking kidding me?!?!
Yeah, super idea to say that to a pregnant woman.🙄🤐😮😒😵

Fluffyears · 08/06/2018 20:24

I have it and i’m Not pregnant and have no hormonal issues i’m just hairy. Look at most waxing oricelists and tou’ll See they offer tummy waxes. Some people have it, others don’t.

whiteonred · 08/06/2018 20:24

I am a very pale blond haired, blue eyed white woman and I got that line (linea negra I think it is called). Finally faded after birth - took a while though. Months if I remember rightly.

I had a friend (not pregnant) whose pubic hair stretched from her belly button to her knees! So you could be having a pubic hair expansion!

NoParticularPattern · 08/06/2018 20:25

I had lods of extra hair when I was pregnant. Like borderline chest hair too. I’m pleased to report it has now all gone 4 months PP. Sadly, so he most of the hair on my actual head too. I wear my hair in a bun a lot and it just looks pathetic now!!

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 20:25

@Mymomsbetterthanyomom not sure what you're referring to?

Thanks all! I feel a little more normal now. Will mention it to midwife in passing and hopefully she will just shrug it off! I'd like to get rid so may just have to suck it up and tweeze!

Just get it waxed off.

sillyoldowl · 08/06/2018 20:46

Oh got I am a bloody gorilla post children.

quince2figs · 08/06/2018 20:49

Doctor here. Completely normal for pigmentation and/or extra hair of varying degrees in a line from pubes to belly button when pregnant (and in some women when not).
Even has a Latin name (linea nigra = “black line”), which we had to note in final medical exams for extra marks! I did obstetrics for many years, so also had to get junior doctors to recall this fact in bedside exams too.
Likely to go away once baby born, but may not.

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 08/06/2018 20:50

I got extra hair there when I was pregnant (and it's damn sensitive, so I wasn't going to do anything about it) - they went away again after.

Wierdly though, my hairline - ie. on my forehead has come forward 1/4 inch each time and not receded again!

Littletinyraindrops · 08/06/2018 20:56

I got them - and sadly they stuck around - during pregnancy.

My MW said ur was normal and may go away with time. I pluck mine, there isn't many hairs but they're in a line, it's quite therapeutic actually. 😂

Littletinyraindrops · 08/06/2018 20:56

*it was

MadRainbow · 08/06/2018 21:03

Sorry I think I have the hyperlink wrong but yes this is it and I saw on embarrassing bodies the hair is normal and can accompany the line
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linea_nigra
summerbaby1 · 08/06/2018 21:06

I also have the line and am fair skinned.

No idea if this is an old wives tale... but my midwife told me the line is thought to guide the baby to the nipple due to their poor eyesight at birth!

sminkypinky · 08/06/2018 21:16

I think I'm one of the few women who went the opposite way. I have PCOS and am very hairy including my belly. When I was pregnant most of my body hair fell out probably due to the high level of female hormones. Now my DS is 3 I'm back to looking like Chewbacca and Richard Keys lovechild.

wheezing · 08/06/2018 21:19

I had a very hairy bump but it went very soon after birth. No lasting changes hair-wise.

WhiteCoyote · 08/06/2018 21:23

Yep I got them! The thing that rankled me the most is they’re jet black yet I have blonde hair Hmm

LifeBeginsAtGin · 08/06/2018 21:27

Definitely hormone-related so worth speaking to your GP.

Please see your midwife before making a GP appointment. She will tell you if you need to see a DR - it's not life threatening.

Thank goodness for tweezers!

NinaCopita · 08/06/2018 21:29

@LifeBeginsAtGin don't worry, not planning on booking a docs appt Smile my dad is a gp and would likely ask him but just wanted to check on here first as it's a bit embarrassing!

GrannyGrissle · 08/06/2018 21:36

I pretty much have to remove hair from my eyebrows downwards since havjng DD. May aswell wax my whole body.

MatildaTheCat · 08/06/2018 21:40

Hormonal and normal. Pluck or use a cream to remove if you want to.

The dark line, linea nigra, is from our embryonic days. We start as a group of cells which then form a tube. The line that appears follows during pregnancy is the point at which we joined up as an embryo and started to become 3D. Who knew?!

GahWhatever · 08/06/2018 21:40

completely and utterly normal. If it's there 6 months post partum, check with your GP re hormone levels, otherwise embrace the fur; it's completely part of the mothering process!

WazFlimFlam · 08/06/2018 21:47

I have always had the odd stray pubey hair under my belly button when not on the pill. I'm now pregnant and they have multiplied. There is more than I can bear to pluck in a single session. I have had to invest in new tweezers.

Linea nigra is different. It is skin pigmentation not hairiness. I don't have that. Yet.

DharmaInitiativeLady · 08/06/2018 21:53

It's normal. And it will very likely go post partum
