Neighbors are just morons

justmakemeacuppa · 07/06/2018 16:20

Having some work done in my house and had to use a drill to fix it to the wall. The neighbors then bang on wall then 7am they decide to bang and sing at top of their voices to get back at us.( I’m up b4 them and go to bed after them so not disturbing us anyway) They complained when we first moved in about noise because the house was being rewired. Tried telling her of work in advance and stopped and work by 7 if any. She still complained, they complain about anything! I just want to move now as I feel I’ll never enjoy my home waiting for them to retaliate over something petty. They haven’t been the quietest in the past but how do they expect people to not ever make a noise???

Calling your neighbours morons doesn’t reflect well on you.

How long have you been having work done on your house for? If you stop the work at 7pm at what time does the work start?

CookieSue222 · 07/06/2018 16:27

So.….. you were drilling prior to 7am and wonder why they were pissed off? I think they are trying to tell you something.

ilovesooty · 07/06/2018 16:27

They might be difficult to negotiate with but they might feel the same about you

I don't see how they're "morons".

Singlenotsingle · 07/06/2018 16:29

If you move (as a home owner) you'll have to disclose this to any prospective purchaser.

Saucery · 07/06/2018 16:29

I don’t think they were reacting to drilling before 7am, more like banging on the wall etc at that time to ‘get back’ at OP as they thought they would be disturbing her. Which is pretty moronic tbh.

MagentaRocks · 07/06/2018 16:30

Pretty sure op doesn’t mean she was drilling before 7am. They retaliated at 7am.

justmakemeacuppa · 07/06/2018 16:31

2 days

Drilling at 6:30pm not before 7am. They were banging at 7am

I had a neighbour who moaned about my kids, my kids were in bed for 8 at night, but if it was 4pm she was straight on phone to council..one day she banged up when i Was plunging the sink, if it wasn’t for the dp taking the plunger out my hands she’d gave needed hospital to remove it from her backside. Anyway I called council and moaned about her moaning nonstop, she stopped moaning.

hotstepper4 · 07/06/2018 16:37

Do they have dc? I'd say 6.30 is too late for drilling if so, 6.30 is when I'm trying to wind ds down for sleep, I'd be really upset if my neighbours were drilling then.

Can you put a letter through their door letting them know when you need to do work?

The banging and singing at 7am is really childish.

CantankerousCamel · 07/06/2018 16:39

My neighbours are also morons. It’s common I think. Ignore them.

maxthemartian · 07/06/2018 16:39

Of course you don't have to disclose this to potential purchasers. That is only if you've gone down the official route.

CantankerousCamel · 07/06/2018 16:42

And only if it concerns boundary issues or similar

Bluelady · 07/06/2018 16:42

My neighbours are too. 6.30pm is too late for drilling? Oh, come on!

CookieSue222 · 07/06/2018 16:43

Ah, right. Sorry OP misunderstood. Sounds like they are really unhappy though, if they resort to banging/singing early as retaliation (despite it being pointless as you are up anyway). Are they elderly? or a young family? 7pm isn't really that late if all the work is over by then, although it may be the accumulative effect on the back of your re-wiring job.

justmakemeacuppa · 07/06/2018 16:44

They have one dc but won’t be in bed at 6:30 she gets home from work at 6 like us but we came home early to get it done so it wasn’t too late.

OP posts:
shoelaces · 07/06/2018 16:46

If you have a full time job and are lucky to be home by 6.30pm, do you only drill at weekends?? How on earth do billy bookcases get put together and safely attached to walls?

Lostwithinthehills · 07/06/2018 16:47

How long did the rewriting take and how long ago was it?

Tried telling her of work in advance and stopped and work by 7 if any. She still complained

It does sound like you have been having work done to your house for longer than two days.

crispysausagerolls · 07/06/2018 16:53

It will only get worse, unfortunately.

justmakemeacuppa · 07/06/2018 16:53

Rewire was 8 yr ago, we’ve had Moaning this long. She complains constantly if I see her so I avoid her best I can. I dread going in garden as she’ll stick her head over fence and complain. My husband says to ignore but how do you?

OP posts:
feathermucker · 07/06/2018 16:53

How long have you been having wirk done to your house for and what has it involved?

justmakemeacuppa · 07/06/2018 16:56

The recent work took 2 evenings as had to stop and continue next day. The rewire hasn’t been going on 8 year lol

OP posts:
Floeer · 07/06/2018 16:57

Oh if your neighbours are complaining about temporary renovation works then they are likely to be the sort that will complain over anything. Never understand people like this. Surely they must know what living in a semi or terrace entails? (Personally I like hearing my neighbours as makes me feel like I am not alone!)

Do feel you OP. As had similar experiences in past with loopy neighbours over noise (and parking and rubbish and garden privacy and aggressive behaviour - all the same neighbours)

Lostwithinthehills · 07/06/2018 16:57

Okay, your op made it sound as if you had recently moved in, re-wired and have now moved on to do further home improvements in a short time frame. Vent away!

BewareOfDragons · 07/06/2018 16:58

I think you should cheerfully tell them that you were delighted they are such early, loud risers as you're sure they won't mind if your contractors start even earlier in the mornings then!
