Everything wrong with the Gilmore girls reunion

Sookie... she should have been there A LOT MORE! Biggest issue for another sequel - they need her but she’s a big star now 😂

How do Lorelai and Rory afford all the take always and clothes?

Lane's Dad suddenly pops up... no explanations. Wtf!

How did 90% of the cast age so badly!

Why did they ruin Rory's career?

Why does Rory take after her mother when it comes to ruining relationships - the way she treat her boyfriend Paul made her character disgusting - she and Logan should have gotten together properly.

And why do two grown women have to use two children to carry their stuff around. Talk about child labour.

Why does the stars hollow gazette jobs pay nothing?

And why doesn't Rory take the teaching job, that would be perfect for her!

Lorelai and Luke should have already been married and had a baby or adopted or something. He always wanted kids!

Dean and Jess - not enough about them.
How can Jess STILL be pining for Rory?

There is going to be another sequel at some point - it's been agreed on but it's up them to decide when the time is right.
So basically they don't care about the fans.

Luke is the absolute saving grace of the show!

I didn’t see Gilmore Girls first time around but watched it more recently on Netflix.

I rather enjoyed the recent shows. I thought Rory’s career was a reflection of just how hard it can be to make it, even with all that promise. I think both her and Lorelai were always quite selfish/ self absorbed. I was more sorry Lane didn’t get a more exciting life. Emily is my absolutely favourite character though.

LeChatDeNuit · 05/06/2018 13:23

I was a GG fan but was completely underwhelmed by the reunion episodes.

Outfoxed · 05/06/2018 13:23

Rory spent her whole life being told she was special, the universe eventually told her she wasn’t really that special. Her career sucks because she thinks she’s better than she is. She went to an interview with nothing prepared because she assumed she would be offered anything she wants. She treats Paul like crap because she’s Rory and she’s special. Same reason she didn’t take the teaching job. Basically Rory sucks. And Lorelei sucks for not preparing her better for hard work. Lorelei worked hard to get to where she is apparently, but she was happy to let Rory skate by.
/taking tv too seriously.

Outfoxed · 05/06/2018 13:25

The biggest failure of that show was Lanes story line. She got pregnant the first time she had sex? Rubbish sex at that. Seems like a running theme in the show that women get punished for having sex.

CantankerousCamel · 05/06/2018 13:33

I just find Lorelei the most awful of characters. She’s so self absorbed and awful, terribly spoiled and pig headed whilst determined to ‘do it all’ all the while acting helpless for the menz.

Saying that I really enjoyed the show. I thought it was well written and very sweet.

DragonMummy1418 · 05/06/2018 13:38

Yes, Lane - we barely met her kids and didn't see anywhere near enough of her!
And we barely met Paris' kids too. She and Doyle should have gotten back together.
And where were Sookie's kids.
So badly written and so much stuff missing!

Emily didn't age... I'm sure of it! 😂

I use GG like comfort blanket.

I was really disappointed with the reunion episodes. It felt like such a half hearted attempt. I’ll be missing them off when I’m comfort watching in the future.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 05/06/2018 13:45

Yes it was underwhelming but I love GG so much I've let it slide Grin I can actually identify with Rory a bit. Our generation were told all you have to do is stick in at school and you can be anything. It's not like that in the real world. But yes overall it was a bit weak.

welshmist · 05/06/2018 13:45

Sookie had filming commitments which meant she could not be there for the sequel. Loreleis dad was dead in real life, I did miss his input. Her Mum I adored. Rory needs a slap of reality which I think they put in at the end. Lorelei was so mixed up.

squeaver · 05/06/2018 13:47

The whole Stars Hollow Musical - waste of time.

The whole Life and Death Brigade reunion - waste of time.

Rory's career - ridiculous storyline. Rory is a TERRIBLE journalist.

All the GG's sense of entitlement that was hinted at in the series, came right to the fore in that awful scene by the swimming pool.

Of course L & L would have been married and have had a kid by then.

Not nearly enough Lane. And of course Paris and Doyle would still be together.

And they should have just put Jess and Rory back together.

And you know the final four words were originally intended to be the final words of the TV series?? When Rory would have been 22 (?). Ridiculous.

If you're a GG fan/obsessive, you should check out the Gilmore Guys podcast.

squeaver · 05/06/2018 13:48

But I love Emily, and I was very happy to see her happy.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 05/06/2018 13:52

Lane’s dad is occasionally mentioned in the early episodes, although never seen. Then he just disappears with no explanation, my personal back story for him is he went back to Korea to help with his families business when his parents retired, and stayed over there for several years, only returning when the next generation got old enough to take over. I really have thought about this a bit too much, I admit.

TomMarkle · 05/06/2018 13:55

The ending is appalling. What makes it worse it that the writer knew what the final three words would be apparently from the very first season.

How depressing. That's Rory's story?

beetfarmer · 05/06/2018 14:01

It was a mess. I like to pretend it doesn't exist. What really happened was Luke and Lorelei had a baby, Rory and Jess got together, Rory has a decent career as a writer but stopped being an arrogant wank and Lane got to be a musician.

AuntFidgetWonkhamStrongNajork · 05/06/2018 14:03

There's a bit of background in Lauren Graham's latest book. Basically the 4 parter is like the final series that was not written by the Pallindinos. LG couldn't even remember Lorelei had married Christopher! Melissa McCarthy wasn't asked until filming had even started as no one was sure it was going to happen until a few weeks beforehand, and then there was a time constraint because someone else was booked to use the set.

DiddimusStench · 05/06/2018 14:07

That makes sense Aunt. It was rushed. It certainly felt rushed.

CantankerousCamel · 05/06/2018 14:08

I do like that Rory wrote the book though. That was a lovely touch

squeaver · 05/06/2018 14:09

Yeah, Cantankerous, and totally ripped off from Dawson's Creek.

CantankerousCamel · 05/06/2018 14:11

Never watched Dawson’s Creek (I found them all very irritating) I might do now I’m older, if it comes on Netflix

dingdongdigeridoo · 05/06/2018 14:19

Dawson’s Creek is on All4. I started a thread in telly addicts! It seems every teen drama has a character who writes a book about the characters. Happened in Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill too. It’s awful when shows get all self referential.

The final words would have made an interesting final scene when Rory was 22. But she’s 32 or so in the revival, so her getting pregnant is hardly shocking or exciting. ASP should have changed some of the storylines to reflect the fact that the characters have aged. L&L suddenly talking about babies when they’ve hit 50 is pretty weird. And not being bothered to plan a wedding for all those years?

And yes, Rory was a bloody awful journalist and such a snob. Wouldn’t work for a blog, wouldn’t work for a prestigious school. I loved that she was ‘broke’ but rented an apartment in NYC with its own writing space. What planet is she on?

RadicalFern · 05/06/2018 14:21

I hated the new series. It’s like when you see friends you loved at school but have lost touch with, and they’re self obsessed and mean and you wonder how it’s possible for them to have become like that when they used to be so nice. Big sad face.

Rose459 · 05/06/2018 14:31

Ahh it was all so awful. I loved GG in the beginning but by the end the only character who I still liked was Emily.

Why would Luke and Lorelai just never bother having a discussion about children before it was too late? It was a running theme of the whole show. They’ve just wasted the last 10 years doing nothing. Luke’s whiney rants just get annoying after a while. They’re both immature and can’t communicate. I also hate that she married a Christopher and broke his heart in the last series.

Rory and Lorelai treat men like crap the whole time, there’s such double standards. Rory is the ‘other woman’ whilst also cheating on her boyfriend and ends up knocked up, alone and jobless. Very depressing.

Also, why would Lorelai go hiking? It was just so random.

tootyfruitee · 05/06/2018 14:35

What about that letter from Emily that was mentioned as if it was going to be really significant but then never came up again?!

DragonMummy1418 · 05/06/2018 15:21

OMG yes tootyfruitee, the letter! 😮

There was so much they missed and left out!

OP posts:
squeaver · 05/06/2018 15:51

Oh the letter bit was SO annoying.

I had a horrible feeling from the start with the scene at Richard's funeral, when Lorelai is drunk and horrible. I felt exactly as RadicalFern says above: why did I ever like spending time with these people?

BUT I have recently started watching the original series again and have been loving it. (Will stop when they get to the final series though. The stupid wedding - AARGH!)
