Everything wrong with the Gilmore girls reunion

Sookie... she should have been there A LOT MORE! Biggest issue for another sequel - they need her but she’s a big star now 😂

How do Lorelai and Rory afford all the take always and clothes?

Lane's Dad suddenly pops up... no explanations. Wtf!

How did 90% of the cast age so badly!

Why did they ruin Rory's career?

Why does Rory take after her mother when it comes to ruining relationships - the way she treat her boyfriend Paul made her character disgusting - she and Logan should have gotten together properly.

And why do two grown women have to use two children to carry their stuff around. Talk about child labour.

Why does the stars hollow gazette jobs pay nothing?

And why doesn't Rory take the teaching job, that would be perfect for her!

Lorelai and Luke should have already been married and had a baby or adopted or something. He always wanted kids!

Dean and Jess - not enough about them.
How can Jess STILL be pining for Rory?

There is going to be another sequel at some point - it's been agreed on but it's up them to decide when the time is right.
So basically they don't care about the fans.

Luke is the absolute saving grace of the show!

Emily is the only decent character - Lorelei and Rory and horrible excuses for human beings by the end!

TomMarkle · 05/06/2018 16:35

Emily is magnificent. Love when she's Marie Kondoing her house and gives everything away - no joy!

TomMarkle · 05/06/2018 16:35

The early seasons are wonderful, fast-paced, witty, quirky, comfort tv.

CantankerousCamel · 05/06/2018 16:44

The funeral was so cringey.

Like you’re going to start ranting about your dead father like that!

Lorelei is just the definition of spoiled

DiddimusStench · 05/06/2018 17:15

Have you guys been watching The Mavellous Mrs Maisel? Written by the Same couple. It was fantastic! A long long wait for season 2 though. They should’ve abandoned the GG revival and concentrated to getting a few series of TMMM done instead.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 05/06/2018 17:59

I quite like that Lorelei and Rory are flawed. It would be too twee otherwise. leave them alone

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 05/06/2018 18:10

Not RTFT but hated the reunion episodes and you've given me a chance to vent.

The Fucking Musical and all the time it took up.

No Lane or Lanes mum

The whole Wild Book vs Film crap. Who the fuck cares.

How nasty and arrogant Rory was. Completely entitled. The scene at the beach where they just came across so badly plus her cheating with Logan.

No Sookie or her kids

Pointless cameos of their mates e.g. Mae Whitman, Jason Ritter, Peter Krause.

Hardly any Paris

There's other stuff I've forgotten but it was a BITTER disappointment at the time

I only discovered GG in 2015 and I was so excited for more

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 05/06/2018 18:13

Can second that new show Mrs Maisel is VERY good - the Palladinos have a deal with Prime so that's were their stuff will be now except GG

crispysausagerolls · 05/06/2018 18:31

I stopped enjoying the Show (but continued watching because I’m a loon) when Lorelei went on that date with the guy to a nice restaurant and made some huge drama and demanded to leave for some ridiculous reason and insisted on fast food but was also a total bitch there. Nothing and nobody was every good enough for her or Rory and they were just so rude. Also to Emily and Richard. And ungrateful.

StrawberrySquash · 05/06/2018 18:32

I watched the originals over the last couple of years and have now gone back to the beginning again. What I can't belive is how much of the Lorelai Luke set up I passed over first time around. I guess I want to believe people can just be friends, even though I like them as a couple.
The new ones were just a bit awkward, if watchable.

CantankerousCamel · 05/06/2018 18:39

crispy absolutely agree. She didn’t want to be in ‘the back room’ on a date and kicked up a huge fuss about being uncomfortable. Like you wouldn’t just enjoy the experience as it stood and perhaps suggest something more up beat the following time. So weird

crispysausagerolls · 05/06/2018 18:42

CantankerousCamel

That’s right! And he had done it to be sweet and make an effort and she couldn’t just fuckng appreciate that or enjoy his company 😡

CantankerousCamel · 05/06/2018 19:00

Oh also, this bugged me throughout the whole show;

What is with ALL THE FOOD?! I mean they’re running a small 10 roomed b+b but have So much Food. Huge piles of strawberries, seventy million broccoli tarts

I found it super wasteful

dingdongdigeridoo · 05/06/2018 19:04

I think the inns both had restaurants attached, which is why they had a fully staffed kitchen.

But it’s weird that the GGs themselves order so much food, yet we rarely see them eat. They just pick at it and leave it on the table. They seem to have a weird relationship with food.

totallywired · 05/06/2018 19:30

I think there is a fantasy element to all the food and all the crafting, like Sukie single handedly whipping a massive feast for multiple people in an evening. Luke spending an evening knocking off wooden items that in real life would take a professional weeks to construct and Lorelai sewing complicated ballgowns in hours. Also all the money spent on town events, pure fantasy.

I like that Lorelai and Rory are flawed, to begin with in the early GGs Rory is presented as perfect and as always getting what she wants, it is rather nauseating. I think that Lorelai over compensates for her parents being over critical by telling Rory she's perfect and special and that is what leads to the mess she is in in the reunion episodes.

donquixotedelamancha · 05/06/2018 19:39

I think both her and Lorelai were always quite selfish/ self absorbed.

Rory wasn't. In the first series or two the point was that she was a kind, clever hardworking girl stumbling her way through adolescence. I guess it's hard to write a character who's a genuinely decent human being but also interesting and the initial 'mistakes' became a habit.

I always felt that Lorelei's selfishness was justified by Rory. She had to be very single minded to make it through all those tough times that were referenced. It would have been nice to see an arc where they both grew up and learned from their mistakes- y'know like actual people do. Instead the cumulative effect of them repeatedly treating people like shit, and not seeming to notice, makes them both into complete dicks.

The Fucking Musical and all the time it took up. This. Grrrr.

Hardly any Paris. No Sookie or her kids. No Lane or Lanes mum. This too. All the best characters were hardly used.

MrStarkIDontFeelSoGood · 05/06/2018 19:47

Watching and Rewatching as I have course not done a million timesBlush shows you how much of a control freak Lorelei was when it came to Rory. The Yale incident sticks out, but how it was all "you don't need to be sociable you don't need friends because YOURE MY MINI ME AND YOUVE GOT ME"

It's not normal for a teenage girl to have literally one friend. Two if you count Paris.

If anyone who loves Gilmore Girls hasn't seen Parenthood, which is what Lauren Graham did next, remedy that because it's brilliant and a much more realistic look at a Lorelei type character with supporting players facing other parenting challenges too

Opheliasgoldenwine · 06/06/2018 09:10

I think Lane's dad pops up randomly as a massive question previously was 'does Lane have a dad?'. They randomly added him in to answer that question.

They afford the takeaways because Lorelai is successful in her job and has probably paid off her house.

Jess is the love of her life, as she is his, so they still love each other in a way.

She doesn't take the job as she's stubborn and is still waiting for her 'big break'.

The gazette job pays nothing as it's a voluntary, non-profit newspaper.

Luke has April, I agree it would have made more sense for them to have had kids but he seems content with her.

greatbigwho · 06/06/2018 09:18

By far the worst thing in GG for me was the whole vasectomy storyline - the way it was all laughed off as a big joke.

CantankerousCamel · 06/06/2018 09:51

Even a fully staffed, busy restaurant doesn’t have 20 pumpkins on display. The food shown was absurd.

Lorelei is stupidly controlling, look how she is when Rory runs away and she’s not even happy she’s safe because she went to her grandparents rather than straight to her.

Look at when Rory wants to look at different schools, she’s scared to tell her mum incase she freaks out (which of course she does)

She is also horrible to men.

DragonMummy1418 · 06/06/2018 14:02

And Lorelai hated the private room that Jason got for them at that restaurant but she loved it when Christopher got the restaurant in Paris to open just for them.
Double standards!

My issue with the reunion episodes is that it's just so obvious the Palladinos were bitter that season 7 wasn't written how they would have done it, and that the new episodes just feel like they were trying to pick up from the end of season 6.

As others have said, it would have been great if Rory had left college, found the real world to be much harder than she was led to believe, but ultimately worked her way through it. Ten years on, it just seems a bit sad. Also, what was the point of Paul except to accent what a horrible person Rory has become..?

MrsOprah · 07/06/2018 10:20

Hated the musical and the Wild trip - who's awful ideas were those?! Musical had no point and wasted so so much time on screen.

TomMarkle · 07/06/2018 14:03

The musical was bizarre - and so boring. I'd love to ask the writers about that and find out why they did that. It seemed very self-indulgent.

IrmaFayLear · 07/06/2018 14:19

Started watching it for the second time.

Interesting at the beginning, the grandma (the original Lorelai) is referred to in the past tense, and of course Kirk isn't Kirk!

I agree with pps who say it makes it less twee that Rory isn't a great success, and that Lorelai is kind of exposed as a narcissist. The reunion was spoiled somewhat by all the peculiar theatrical bits, but after I'd got used to Lauren Graham's odd new face (you ruined your pout!!) it did come full circle. Although I agree that announcing you're pregnant at 32 is of no consequence; when she was at Yale and on the cusp of a supposedly magnificent career - more angst all round.
