To wonder who, if anyone, actually watches Doctors?

I'm currently watching the British Soap Awards, and it's the same every year. Doctors gets nominated, it even wins a few token awards that were voted for by the panel, but I've never seen a single episode. I don't even know when it's on? Ive never heard anyone talking about it like the other soaps. The members of the public in the audience who cheer everything else always give it a mute response as well.

It's a bit of a mystery to me. Clearly someone must watch it, but who?

Ooh go on to Telly Addicts, there's a whole thread on it! I used to think the same as you but reading the thread is quite funny so I don't mind the odd episode if it happens to be on now.

Notevilstepmother · 02/06/2018 20:48

It’s on in the middle of the day. It’s good actually. My mum is a big fan.

ManicUnicorn · 02/06/2018 20:49

Am I right in assuming it's about a doctors surgery?

Pensioners and sleep-deprived mothers of young babies, mainly!

TheDairyQueen · 02/06/2018 20:50

I used to watch it religiously when I worked from home.

Quite fucking why, I don't know. I found the story lines contrived, the acting totally unbelievable and the theme music seems to induce the total rage in me (the likes of which I usually only get in response to the One Show).

Empoweredwomenempowerwomem · 02/06/2018 20:50

I bloody love it. It’s daytime tv about 245 weekdays.
When I had sky plus I used to record it! I think it’s fab.

Ohlellykelly · 02/06/2018 20:51

I know someone who watches it! She's in her 80s.

PinkBuffalo · 02/06/2018 20:51

I've only ever seen a couple of episodes when off work sick. Like PP said on in the middle of the day.
I can see why it would be popular. Very inoffensive. I spent most of the time wishing my Drs surgery was as caring as that one!

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 02/06/2018 20:53

I think it's a load of rubbish. The acting is awful and it's like a mix of comedy and serious acting so I don't really get it.

GrandTheftWalrus · 02/06/2018 20:54

My mum watches it. But then she watches all manners of shite!

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 02/06/2018 20:54

I am neither sleep deprived nor an oap and I love it!!
Some great humour in it!!

CantChoose · 02/06/2018 20:55

My DH's Grandma loves it. Talks to me about it like the people are real - took me ages to get used to it. I'm a GP and she assumes it reflects my daily life and will not be persuaded otherwise Grin

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2018 20:56

Doctors is brilliant. I don't get to watch chance any more. There's a great thread on MN and if you watch and join in with the thread it's very entertaining. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2018 20:57

*chance to watch, even.

ToadOfSadness · 02/06/2018 20:57

I watch it, have done for years, wish they would put the old ones on again so I can see the ones I missed before I discovered it.

I look forward to watching it before I go to sleep, on IPlayer.

Troels · 02/06/2018 20:58

My Mum watches it in the middle of the day and enjoys it. She's nearly 80.

bitmynailbrokemytooth · 02/06/2018 20:59

My parents watch it. Age-wise, one is in the early 80s and one in the late 70s. They are both retired doctors. They never miss it, plan their day around it or record it if they will be out. Sometimes they share the plots and happenings with me, but I don't watch it myself, so don't know if it's any good. It's just a soap but folks like them.

Accountant222 · 02/06/2018 21:00

I've watched it a few times, on the same level as Crossroads

Sparklingbrook · 02/06/2018 21:01

It's had some quite well known people in it over the years. I would say the acting is better than Crossroads from what I can remember of that.

I think Emma Samms is in it at the moment.

cloudyweewee · 02/06/2018 21:02

I love it! I watch it on iplayer every evening. DH also watches. The acting is no shiter than other soaps, but some of the storylines are a bit out there.

vampirethriller · 02/06/2018 21:03

I used to watch it for the ridiculous storylines and the fact that it seemed to have been written by someone who had never been to a doctor's surgery. Passed the time when I was meant to be doing my dissertation!

LARLARLAND · 02/06/2018 21:04

Your parents sound so cute bitmynail

clairedelalune · 02/06/2018 21:07

My dad. Religiously.

ManicUnicorn · 02/06/2018 21:09

I didn't realise daytime soaps were still a thing! Well I know Neighbours is still on in the day, but I only ever watch it at 5.30 in the evening.

Reminds me of being a kid when my DM watched Neighbours, Home and Away, Sons and Daughters, The Young Doctors, A Country Practice etc. She planned her days around them as well. I don't know how she even found the time to do anything.

I love it. Although I did start watching it as a sleep-deprived mother of a young baby
