Funfair sweets

So today my DMIL took my DC to the funfair

She brought my two DC them sweet canes from a sweet van, she paid £6 for two

She brought them home and Iv just had a look at them now (DC don't know they have them as DMIL kept them for me to give them tmrw)

They are filthy one has hair stuck to it and one has pink sugar stuck at the bottom and then has sweets put in

Iv told DMIL I will take them back tmrw to ask for a refund but she thinks that I won't be refunded as it's a food item

AIBU to take them back

I do not want my DC to touch them sweets as the canes they are in are filthy

And I don't want to bin them as DMIL has paid £6 for them both

Do I have a leg to stand on taking them back tmrw?

I doubt you'll get a refund tbh, I'm assuming it is a mobile fair. They will probably just say they were clean when she bought them

You'll be told to get lost. The hair could have come from anywhere, and sugar in a sweets container is not unusual.

My DMIL didn't realise as she brought them and put them in her bag so DC don't see them

I wouldn't normally complain but they are filthy I don't want to bin them and don't want to give them DC, I'm not one to bother with complaining, if it was just one tube, but both are filthy

I'd just throw them to be honest and get something else for them tomorrow. Is it worth the hassle of going back? How far is it?

Put the photo on a local FB page to warn others and tell your mum not to do it again!

The funfair is just up the road from me literally just 2-3 minutes up the road,

I was thinking that aswell cannot believe they get away with selling such dirty sweet tubes

Having worked in the close vicinity of the fairgrounds I found that anyone sticking up for themselves get threatened with a smack in the mouth - I would bin them and let others know on facebook

I thought I will take them back at 12pm when they open, and if they do threaten me or even refuse il tell them I'm uploading on Facebook and taking a photo of there van and making everybody aware of them and there filthy sweets

Watch what you put on fb, unless you can prove what you are claiming.

personally, i wouldn't try for a refund. If you really feel that they were unhygienic, then report to environmental health, who will inspect them. even food vans have hygiene ratings and standards that they have to comply with.

The hair was stuck into the cello tape and was a long brunette hair strand my DMIL has short blonde hair, so I know it must have been on it when she brought them but the tubes look so filthy like they have been used,

Gross. It looks like they’ve been collecting and recycling/refilling the tubes but not thoroughly cleaning them. Double gross. I would not bother taking them back. Just chalk it up as a loss.

Since it’s food, environmental health may be worth talking to, whether or not you get a refund at the fairground. It’s unlikely to be a one off.

It’s a fair, I wouldn’t expect much from it. Chances are if you complain, you’ll get threatened and they won’t give a monkeys if you post on Facebook. Just bin them.

I would empty them, wash them out and then refill them with sweets from the supermarket in wrappers like Fruitella. i wouldn't take them back to a fair, no way will you get a refund.

PlumsGalore makes a good point. The footballs look individually wrapped so (whilst the tube is a bit manky) they'll be perfectly safe to eat. Bin the smarties, clean the tube, and refill with something else. And pick your battles wisely with complaining...

Looks like the tubes have been reused, you wouldn’t get sugar at the bottom of the canes with chocolate footballs. Iv seen these at my wholesalers and they definitely look reused Confused but as others have said you won’t get a refund, no receipt? They will deny they sold them to you I would imagine!
