The phrase “resting bitch face”

It’s supposed to be bitchy resting face FFS. Resting bitch face makes no bloody sense.

My resting face is mardy. My mum had a resting face which was smiley.

Please stop saying resting bitch face, you’ve got it the wrong way round.

It's not an expression I use on a regular basis, but I have heard a number of people, not on MN, say resting bitch face. Suspect it's just one of those expression that everyone knows the meaning of but actually doesn't make sense.

Have seen it loads on here over the last few days, it’s making me cross every time.

I know it’s not just on MN, everyone is doing it wrong.

I had this exact experience this morning (discussing Victoria Beckham's expression at the wedding with my trainer), I said "bitchy resting face" and he looked at me puzzled and said, "Oh you mean resting bitch face!" Is this how we are saying it now? It sounds so much worse than the original expression.

To me it basically means someone is unapproachable.

Awwlookatmybabyspider - but it's not a deliberate expression though, it's the unfortunate, accidentally grumpy expression some of us (myself included) have on our faces when we are not thinking about anything in particular or interacting with anyone. I'm sure it may make me look unapproachable to a stranger, mostly I seem to get annoying men who tell me to "Cheer up love, it might never happen..."

Since then I have made sure I smile a lot so as to avoid random strangers judging me and possibly telling me to 'cheer up love, it might never happen'

I do, however, smile at and greet people I know, or who smile at and greet me. Sometimes I am just thinking though

I heard (and used, about myself!) Resting Bitch Face way before, like years before I ever heard anyone say Bitchy Resting Face. I will always use the former though I agree it makes little sense!

Bitchy resting face makes less sense to me. A face isn't really bitchy - what it says might be, but applied to the face as a noun, nope.

OP yes! A resting bitch face accurately means a bitchy face that's resting, rather than a resting face that looks bitchy. Don't give a fuck what the urban dictionary says, just because something's used commonly doesn't make it right.

The joke is all about a “resting face” being an amusing way of describing someone’s natural expression - when they aren’t animated or etc. So saying your natural expression is “bitchy” is a good insult. Doing it the other way round misses the whole joke.
