To have two showers a day

Since puberty I have always felt dirty if I don't have two showers a day. Usually, I have a body wash in the morning and wash 'down there' with a quick rinse at night. I wash my hair on alternate nights.

I feel I need a shower to feel clean for the day and to be clean for bed after the day. I also feel it's important to wash 'down there' regularly if nothing else.

When I was living with my parents my dad would get very annoyed at me having two showers, even though the showers are about 3 minutes if I'm not washing my hair. Now I live with my partner, and he too thinks it's a waste to have two showers.

Your 2 short showers are shorter than my one shower so I don't see how it's wasteful really.

JustbackfromBangkok · 20/05/2018 17:17

2 x 3 minute showers is hardly excessive IMO.
A daily bath would use loads more water.

EyeOfAgamotto · 20/05/2018 17:17

Sounds fine - I always have a shower first thing before dressing for work and again after the gym or a run, so as long as it's not ruling your life or causing you anxiety you're fine.

siwel123 · 20/05/2018 17:20

It's fine. I have 2 10 minute showers a day ShockGrin.

IncyWincyMouseRat · 20/05/2018 17:21

I was fully ready to say YABU but if they were both quick showers, I don’t really see any problem.

YABU to think you -need- to wash your genitals twice per day though tbh.

MommaL · 20/05/2018 17:36

If it works for you, have at. I can't shower more than every other day or I get horribly itchy. That works for me.

userofthiswebsite · 20/05/2018 17:43

Showering if you're not washing your hair can be v quick as you illustrate.
I often shower twice a day though I always shampoo/condition my hair each time so it takes longer than you do but it's worth it.
Annoying to have to dry hair each time / straighten it, but I don't believe in dry shampoo.

LoniceraJaponica · 20/05/2018 17:46

I'm showering twice a day in this weather. After a morning run or bike ride, then just before bed.

Glumglowworm · 20/05/2018 17:48

2 x 3 minutes is the still quicker than lots of people’s 1 shower a day!

As long as it doesn’t cause you anxiety if you can’t have 2 showers for some reason, and you’re not dictating to anyone else, then YANBU to do what suits you.

Mannix · 20/05/2018 17:49

I don't think it's wasteful, as they're such short showers. But I do think that as you feel 'not clean' without them, that could potentially be an issue (ie in terms of your own mental health). If I was living with you, that's the bit I'd be worrying about.

FASH84 · 20/05/2018 17:55

I shower once a day, but twice a day on gym days if I go after work. If I go first thing I roll out of bed into gym kit work out then shower. If it's a very hot day I might shower before bed and sometimes I'll have an evening bath having showered in the morning. Wash my hair every day of I leave it curly or every few days if I straighten it. My concern would be how do you feel if you can't shower twice a day and does it impact on your life/ your partner? If it causes issues eg you won't stay out over night in case you can't have your second shower etc, or you get in at 1am and still have to shower before bed, have a think about it. If you just prefer it that way but can be flexible go for it, you're only taking very quick showers anyway.

ForalltheSaints · 20/05/2018 17:56

Not wasteful, and I bet for anyone who travels by train or bus they like me wish everyone showered at least once a day.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 20/05/2018 17:58

I’ve always had two a day or a shower in the morning and a bath at night. Seeing as you’re an adult, it’s up to you and it’s none of your partners business whatsoever.

BakedBeans47 · 20/05/2018 17:59

I often shower twice a day, like you just a quick shower so I don’t think it’s a big deal.

cardibach · 20/05/2018 18:00

If you are only in there 3 minutes I don’t think you can be properly cleaning yourself - maybe one longer shower where you actually wash your body would make you feel better.

GothMummy · 20/05/2018 18:02

I shower (quickly!) twice a day! Totally not unreasonable.

cloudyweewee · 20/05/2018 18:04

I always shower in the morning and in hot weather, will also shower when I get home from work. 3 minutes per shower is nothing.

Sevendown · 20/05/2018 18:04

I think that’s just getting wet not getting clean.

It takes me a 2 hour bath to feel clean.

Nothisispatrick · 20/05/2018 18:05

It doesn't sound particularly wasteful but I do think it's sad when women constantly thing that their 'down there' is dirty and needs repeated washing.

ScarlettDarling · 20/05/2018 18:10

I usually shower quickly in the morning very quickly, just to wake up properly really. In and out in 2 minutes. I have a longer shower in the evening which I never miss. If I had to miss one of them, I'd miss the morning shower.

Sevendown it takes you a two hour bath to feel clean? Why?!

LoniceraJaponica · 20/05/2018 18:11

I can have a shower and get properly clean in 3 minutes Sevendown. It wouldn't include a hair wash though. That would add a couple more minutes.

OhCheersForThat · 20/05/2018 18:14

I always shower in the morning and then shower or bathe before bed. I like feeling clean and refreshed. YANBU!

Mashandbangers · 20/05/2018 18:15

‘Don’t believe in dry shampoo’ 🤔 it’s not Santa Claus

bluemascara · 20/05/2018 18:23

Yanbu I do exactly the same thing. Sometimes even have 3 showed

GummyGoddess · 20/05/2018 18:23

I've never got dry shampoo to work for me, it's a huge waste of money and effort. However I only have to wash and dry my hair once a week so I can't complain.
