To have two showers a day

carol1234568 · 20/05/2018 17:14

Since puberty I have always felt dirty if I don't have two showers a day. Usually, I have a body wash in the morning and wash 'down there' with a quick rinse at night. I wash my hair on alternate nights.

I feel I need a shower to feel clean for the day and to be clean for bed after the day. I also feel it's important to wash 'down there' regularly if nothing else.

When I was living with my parents my dad would get very annoyed at me having two showers, even though the showers are about 3 minutes if I'm not washing my hair. Now I live with my partner, and he too thinks it's a waste to have two showers.

I always - every, single day - shower in the morning (and always wash my hair) and in the evening before bed (no hair wash).

How is it unreasonable? If you prefer to do this, do it.

DuchyDuke · 20/05/2018 18:34

It’s possible that your morning shower is too short which is why you need the second one.

Ollivander84 · 20/05/2018 18:35

How can a shower be too short? Confused
I get in, lather entire body, rinse and out. 2-3 mins

Candlelight123 · 20/05/2018 18:36

I dont see the problem with it. When I travelled by train I did exactly the and thing.

user1457017537 · 20/05/2018 18:39

How controlling, shower as often as you like you don’t have to ask permission from anyone.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/05/2018 19:02

Sevendown blimey, are you Lady Macbeth?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 20/05/2018 19:10

YANBU but you should never wash your hair every day your stripping it of its natural oils and you end up with dry brittle hair you should only wash your hair every day if you have an oily scalp.

ragged · 20/05/2018 19:25

I wonder if OP is taking >> 3 minute showers. Time them for the next week & come back & ask again.

BlueJava · 20/05/2018 19:49

I have 2 showers a day, something 3 if it's really hot or I'm in Asia. Not BU at all :)

TheFatkinsDiet · 20/05/2018 19:51

6 minutes of shower time per day is fine. If you really feel bad, give up beef. Apparently producing one burger uses the equivalent of a month’s worth of showers, (or something like that - some pearl I saw on Facebook a million years ago when I still used it).

hotmessmom82 · 20/05/2018 20:38

I always shower in the morning and have a bath before bed. I cannot stand leaving the house without showering.

MissusGeneHunt · 20/05/2018 20:42

YANBU at all! If it makes you feel good and it's as brief as you say, I can't see the problem!

Rattail · 20/05/2018 21:19

As long as you don't wash your hair twice a day, i think its perfectly fine

Caribou58 · 20/05/2018 21:29

you should never wash your hair every day your stripping it of its natural oils and you end up with dry brittle hair you should only wash your hair every day if you have an oily scalp.

I've been told this before - but I'm sixty in less than 3 weeks, have been washing my hair every day for 40 years and so far it's entirely failed to make my hair brittle.

DramaAlpaca · 20/05/2018 21:32

It's fine. I always shower in the morning & on a hot day I might shower in the evening too.

SabineUndine · 20/05/2018 21:36

I bath twice a day and have for years. They’re not deep baths and I don’t usually soak for hours. I don’t think two short showers a day is excessive.

JustbackfromBangkok · 20/05/2018 22:00

If you live in a hot climate like I do, you get used to showering and changing clothes up to 4 times a day. I use those scrunchy things that you can scrub from top to toe with, and shower gel. I can be in and out in 2 minutes, 4 if I wash my hair.
I chuck all my clothes in a 18 minute wash every night, hang them up and they are dry in the morning.
I use very little water or heat.
I would be so uncomfortable if I couldn't shower before bed. Ugh.

BakedBeans47 · 21/05/2018 07:39

It takes me a 2 hour bath to feel clean.

Jeez how dirty are you? Also how much spare time do you have?!

Nakedavenger74 · 21/05/2018 07:52

2 hours bath?! Baths are horrible dirty things. Sitting in your OWN FILTH ffs.

I shower on the hour every hour. Anything less is disgusting and can not possibly mean you are clean.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 21/05/2018 08:03

Don't get how anyone can feel clean after a bath tbh, everything you're washing off, stays in the water you're in, like a human soup. Sure it gets diluted but its still there. Unless you're using a shit ton of antibacterial body wash (super hard to find!) or using antibacterial personal use disinfectant added to the water, the germs aren't killed, they're just spread over you, urgh.

As for showers, 3 minutes without a hair wash is more than adequate, and if 2 a day makes you feel better, who is anyone else to question you.

Bunbunbunny · 21/05/2018 08:11

Have you though about getting a beday or adpator for your toilet? If you’re concerned about cleaning down there that might save you the worry and also be able to clean any time you use the loo. I did think about getting one to reduce the amount of loo roll and I have IBS so worry about getting clean too

NewPapaGuinea · 21/05/2018 08:17

Do you use soap on both occasions? It could possibly be excessive washing is perpetuating the problem, by stripping away natural oils/protection. I’ve recently gone “no-poo” and my hair feels amazing. I used to have thin, brittle hair but now feels much softer. It is short though (male) which, no doubt, helps.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/05/2018 08:23

Good grief. The pearl clutches are out in force. Baths are not filthyHmm.

When I was growing up no-one had a shower in their home. How on earth did we survive?

Unless you work down a mine or do a job that makes you really dirty a bath is unlikely to be full of filthy water after you have been in it.

Some of you need to get a grip ffs Hmm

yikesanotherbooboo · 21/05/2018 08:30

2 brief showers does not sound excessive.
I would like to know whether you get anxious if you miss your shower? Is the need to feel clean abnormal in other words? If not , go ahead. BTW don't use soap or shower gel around your vulva as it upsets the natural balance.
I would also like to know what your partner's motivation is. Is he thinking about water or energy waste? This would not be unreasonable imo but you don't sound profligate. Is he thinking about the bills? Also potentially reasonable but might depend on how long he spends washing.is he feeling uneasy that maybe you feel he is dirty? Is he worried about your potential anxiety? Or is he being bossy or at worst , controlling?
The answers to these might clarify whether heIBU but I am not convinced that you are!

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 21/05/2018 08:30

Two showers per day is fine, I know people who don't even shower once every day so you're only accounting for their deficit 😷

Your repeated mention of needing to be clean 'down there' though makes me wonder if you have some kind of issue with your genital and hygiene in general? Have you ever been told by a partner or anyone else you smell bad, so now you're hyper focused on overcompensating by trying to be squeaky clean at all times? If you do smell bad, bear in mind it could well be some kind of bacterial infection like BV rather than your natural scent (I know friends who've not realised they have an actual infection and spend so much money on ineffectual scenting products for their genital when they really need antibiotics). A normal healthy vagina/vulva shouldn't smell so noticeably bad it needs twice daily proper cleansing. In my experience anyway.
