to not like red school uniforms?

Especially at this time of the year, when the red is all faded.

I like a navy jumper/blue shirt combo. A Catholic school near me has emerald green jumpers and white shirts, which is lovely. Another one has brown- not so much.

They're the devil for shedding in the wash. See Paddington 2.

gamerwidow · 20/05/2018 12:50

You can swap with me. I really like the red but DDs is royal blue.

ilovesooty · 20/05/2018 12:51

You can like whatever you like and dislike whatever you like.

AvoidingDM · 20/05/2018 12:52

I wish we had any colour of polos but white. They are a pain to get stains out off.

passmetheloppers · 20/05/2018 12:54

I had bottle-green school uniform and I absolutely hated it with a passion. That was over 40 years ago and I have never worn the colour since. Vile.

Never had an issue with dd's red uniform fading, there was always a pink/red wash on the go and I used the washing powder for colours.

immortalmarble · 20/05/2018 12:56

Mine was bottle green too Smile

My children had navy.

SheMovedThroughTheFair · 20/05/2018 12:56

The makers of those whiteboard markers must be in cahoots with the stain remover people. Pencils don't make half as much mess.

Navy fades too, it goes a little purply

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/05/2018 12:58

My niece has lilac- awful!

AlonsoTigerHeart · 20/05/2018 12:59

Whiteboard markers are my long term nemesis

Whoever decreed school polos shirts should be white clearly never met a child.

MuddyForestWalks · 20/05/2018 13:00

Green uniform here too. I was out of school 15 years before I wore green again.

TheSecondOfHerName · 20/05/2018 13:01

My children had to wear pale blue sweatshirts for infant school (ages 4-7). And had access to black dry-wipe markers.

firawla · 20/05/2018 13:01

I don’t mind red. We have burgundy which is harder to find in the shops!

KitXi · 20/05/2018 13:04

My eldest had royal blue at primary which I loved, always looked smart and didn't seem to fade at all. He's in bottle green now.
Younger ones have jade green which is nice but I don't think it's as smart as the blue.
I would love a different colour polo shirt too, white are a real bugger!

Bippitybopityboo · 20/05/2018 13:04

I like yellow but I bet they're a pain to keep nice!

pointythings · 20/05/2018 13:15

Meh, I hate all uniform. But at least DD2's school has blazers, which means pockets, which is helpful.

FizzyGreenWater · 20/05/2018 13:17

Blue is by far the nicest

Carycach100 · 20/05/2018 13:19

i think red looks cute on littlies, but not quire right on 10/11 yr old boys

BertieBotts · 20/05/2018 13:20

I had red as a child and liked it. Then I moved to a school with blue which I found very inferior - it seemed like blue was a much more common colour and I liked the unusualness of the red! I was envious of the one yellow school though Grin

When I went to secondary school it was yellow shirts for the girls, which were awful because they would get progressively more and more see through throughout the year. Just what you want as a self conscious teen in a mixed sex school.

Juells · 20/05/2018 13:21

Bottle green here, too. Didn't mind it, though.

Carycach100 · 20/05/2018 13:21

Those of you complaining about white board markers, wait til they get to secondary and you discover the joys of acrylic paint and much more expensive uniform!

babybythesea · 20/05/2018 13:21

I hate navy. Looking round a sea of navy on a dull winters day just adds to the dullness. My children used to have royal blue which was lovely. But then I love bright colours on kids.
Now they have navy. It's just so nothingy and bleugh and dull.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 20/05/2018 13:22

I like red, and I don't think it fades any worst than other colours. A school nearby has burgundy, they look like they work in Sainsbury's.
Dark Grey and dark blue or dark green would be my preference.

I quite like white shirts, the only ones I can bleach and keep spotless.

MrsHathaway · 20/05/2018 13:23

Navy polo shirts here They can wear white but you tend to see them only under a jumper or pinafore.

I like blue and mildly dislike red but I don't know if that's comfort/familiarity because my school had blue (and DB's had a particularly vile red).

A local school has red with navy and I think it looks awful. Red with grey/black is fine but I don't like the navy and can't work out why.

My secondary school used to run a y7 ish science challenge so each year we'd have a gaggle of invited 11yos in various ugly uniforms. "Brown plus" is definitely the ugliest - brown plus mint green piping, for example. By comparison a plain red jumper is perfectly delightful!

Caaarrrl · 20/05/2018 13:23

My DDs had grey cardigans with sky blue shirts and blue and white striped ties. Grey does not fade and blue shirts don't go grubby like white one can. They always looked smart no matter what time of year.
