AIBU To think Victoria Beckham is a right mardy, stroppy looking mare. Anybody see the way she was looking out the corner of her eye at the crowds. Not a hint of a smile.

RachelTeeth - I agree ! Stop slagging off women who don't smile. There were loads of men there not smiling in pix - and regualrly are - but a woman's job - her entire existence even - is to look pretty and appealing for others! And let's all comment on whether she "can keep a man" or not! Have we really not moved on.

She has a job. She was a successful pop singer and is a successful fashion designer. Whether her husband still "loves her" really is irrelevant.

I do not value my own worth - or that of my friends or daughters - on whether I/they look happy for the cameras and can keep a man satisfied. Thank goodness.

IrmaFayLear · 23/05/2018 11:25

Actually I do judge my friends, family and anyone who can't manage a bit of a cheerful expression at a wedding. No one's asking for manic grinning, just a pleasant smile to those around them.

I expect VB is pleased her expression attracted discussion in the media. I noticed coverage of her attending a business thing or other on Monday, which might not have made the papers if she hadn't done her grumpy act at the wedding on Saturday.

Roussette · 23/05/2018 11:31

Giving her the benefit of the doubt, OK she doesn't like her smile, don't smile then... but there's a difference between a pleasant demeanour whilst not smiling, and scowling or looking just plain bloody miserable.

I agree she's channelling Anna Wintour, but somehow AW gets away with it. VB doesn't. I might have had sympathy but when she said she owes it to the fashion community not to smile, she lost my vote.

Davespecifico · 23/05/2018 11:42

It’s ok not to be smiley, but to be so rude looking and awkward is unpleasant.
I don’t think she deliberately looked unhappy or sullen to generate publicity. It wasn’t her wedding and it wasn’t her place to do that. I don’t believe she’s stoop so low.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/05/2018 11:46

But how do you decipher what's an ok non smiley face and a "rude and awkward" one.

She was just walking along the road into church. I bet if we studied every single other non famous face that they weren't all smiling.

Leave her be. She doesn't have to bloody smile if she doesn't want to.

Davespecifico · 23/05/2018 11:51

I see your point greatduck, but she wasn’t just walking along a road. She was a in a small group of VIPs being filmed, walking and greeting people on their way to a royal wedding.
Her demeanour was, for me, uncomfortable viewing. It went way beyond not smiley. She was uncomfortable about something and she let it show way too much.

Roussette · 23/05/2018 12:06

Everyone looked smiley and pleasant. Faces are very expressive. She didn't have a pleasant non smiling face , she needs to practice in the mirror! People know when I'm pissed off because my face shows it. As does hers.

GilligansKitchenIsland · 23/05/2018 12:07

Christ, maybe that's just her neutral expression! I'm forever being told by random men on the street to "smile, love!", "it can't be that bad" etc when actually I'm just lost in thought. It makes my blood boil, but it must be so demoralising to hear it thousands of times a day.
I thought she looked beautiful, and her outfit was stunning. There's no rule against navy at a wedding - and the cut was way more interesting than another floral pencil midi which is what I wear to every wedding ever.

Roussette · 23/05/2018 12:13

A beautiful person with a miserable face rather cancels out their beauty in my book. She wasn't wandering up the road for a pint of milk lost in thought. She was a lucky person at the very happy occasion of a royal wedding with all the press there and everyone round her smiling, laughing and happy.

I can only imagine something is terribly wrong and if so, she has my sympathies. But even then, you can plaster on a reasonably pleasant expression if you try. I've had to do it in the past.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/05/2018 12:13

She didn't have a pleasant non smiling face , she needs to practice in the mirror

For whom? It's her face and if she doesn't want to smile she doesn't have to.

She was happy enough inside the church when chatting to other guests, why is that not enough?

GilligansKitchenIsland · 23/05/2018 12:14

She might also just be naturally introverted and find these sort of "make small talk while the world watches and judges" events quite draining and/or intimidating. I wonder how the rest of us would get on, having our wedding mingling skills assessed by hundreds of strangers?

Roussette · 23/05/2018 12:18

There's a clip of her in the church gliding along with the biggest scowl on her face, if there was smiling it was fleeting.

If she doesn't want to smile, ok yes her face, but my god it's a joy draining experience to have to clock it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/05/2018 12:19

I think I have a resting bitch face come to think of it. I feel odd and uncomfortable when I think I should be smiling in certain situations, it feels false and unnatural. Like a bit stepford wifey.

Roussette · 23/05/2018 12:19

But all she had to do was put one foot in front the other for a few yards with a reasonably pleasant face. It's not like anyone was interviewing her as she went in, and FWIW she doesn't come across as shy on chat shows.

Fflamingo · 23/05/2018 12:21

I think she has a turned up nose which is emphasized when she smiles, she prefers therefore not to smile.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/05/2018 12:21

So you missed all the other shots of her talking and smiling with Elton and James Blunt then I guess Rousette. I think someone posted them on this thread if you want to double check.

Roussette · 23/05/2018 12:23

I only saw the top of her head GreatDuck when with EJ etc.

I suppose I think it's just looking like she wanted to be there. Which she didn't.

Loopytiles · 23/05/2018 12:23

I have a friend who IMO is very beautiful, she has a hang up about her smile and actively avoids smiling showing teeth in photos. It’s sad.

Loopytiles · 23/05/2018 12:25

Who knows what’s going on with anyone? Sitting through a wedding when feeling unhappy, especially if about your own relationship, can be very hard IME.

Roussette · 23/05/2018 12:32

As I said before, if there is an issue and something is wrong, she has my sympathies. But if she owes it to fashion not to smile, errrrmmm... no..

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/05/2018 12:47

There was another photo of her stood with a few people and they were all laughing and smiling at something she was saying.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/05/2018 12:49

This one.

Yep she's talking!
Grin

Yorkshirebetty · 23/05/2018 17:11

She's "naturally introverted"?? Hmm
Well she does a pretty good job of chasing fame, attention and celebrity status Grin

Yorkshirebetty · 23/05/2018 17:14

None of these photos show her smiling...
