To ask how often you change your LO’s nappy

Beckyx96 · 18/05/2018 12:26

Just that really, how often do you usually change your LO’s nappy & how old are they?

The reason for asking is because my DP had DS for an entire day while I was doing work training and he went through about 12 nappies. I asked why and he said he changes his nappy every hour (never knew this before lol) then said it’s bad that I dont. (Lighthearted) surely this is not the norm? When he was a tiny baby i did and that was the last time DP had DS for an entire day on his own.

I usually change first thing in a morning, whenever he does a #2 then before morning nap, before afternoon nap, before tea time and before bed. He is 9 months old. How often do you change?

About every 3 hours? Every 1 hour is crazy wasteful and terrible for the environment!

Wait4nothing · 18/05/2018 12:33

Yeah I’d say what you do is More normal. Dd is just 2 so when she wakes up, mid morning, before nap (after lunch), mid afternoon and bedtime. Whenever she has a poo (but might not do nearest change if I’d just done a poo). I factor in 6 nappies a day when we go on holiday (then add a few extra) and we always bring some home.

Candlelight123 · 18/05/2018 12:34

Yes, that's way too much, they don't need to be changed for every drop of wee! Every couple oh hours or immediately after a poop.

Merryoldgoat · 18/05/2018 12:36

6/7 times a day plus poos. NOT every hour!

DinoGreen · 18/05/2018 12:43

Your schedule sounds fine! My DS is older now (2.2) and I'm a bit lax compared to some with nappies, I change straight away after poos and for wet ones maybe every 4 hours or so? So he probably goes through 4-5 nappies a day. At his nursery they change them all the time, every 3 hours maybe? Which I think is more than often enough!

moita · 18/05/2018 12:46

Yeah that's a lot of changes. We had to do every 2 hours for DS at one point as he had terrible nappy rash but it's more like every 3-4 hours now (except for poos). He's 16 months so no changes overnight.

CloudCaptain · 18/05/2018 12:48

Fresh nappy in the morning, then only if he's done a poo. New one after lunch if not changed since first thing then fresh one for bedtime. He wears pampers though so contains a lot of wee.
This is why I'm not using cloth nappies because they need changing every 2 hours. Lazy.

liz70 · 18/05/2018 12:52

I used cloth for my DDs, probably went through about 7 or 8 during the day, then one super boosted one at night provided they didn't dirty it.

Namechangemum100 · 18/05/2018 12:53

DD is 15 months...she has a fresh nappy in the morning, before her afternoon nap, before bed, and any time she poos.

She has never ever had a nappy rash. I like to think there is a balance between what is hygenic and comfortable, and what is sensible for the environment.

2b1c51 · 18/05/2018 12:54

I use cloth nappies and usually go 3-4 hours (similar schedule to you) for my 14mo unless he's poos - so 5-6 nappies in 24 hours. Every hour is ridiculous- my washing machine would be on constantly!

Beckyx96 · 18/05/2018 13:18

Thanks for your replies! DP didn’t believe me when I said it’s not normal to change every hour (bad for the environment AND our bank balance!) but I’ve shown him this thread and now he’s agreed to calm down abit haha!

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 18/05/2018 13:20

Every 2 to 3 hours I think. Unless it’s particularly wet or if they poo. I don’t change at night unless it’s desperate though because they think it’s play time.

elliejjtiny · 18/05/2018 13:22

Every 3 hours or when they poo, whichever comes first.

foxessocks · 18/05/2018 13:24

I do one in the morning, one before or after nap or sometimes before and after nap just depends if wet or not and then one before bed...that's all. Never has nappy rash. Obviously if he poos I change it straight away but he usually poos in the morning so it's done then anyway.

foxessocks · 18/05/2018 13:25

Oh and he is 20 months...I have never timed it. I do one around nap time as it seems sensible and then I'll do it if he poos or it seems like it needs doing!

flufffysockks · 18/05/2018 13:30

Immediately after a poo.

Wee, usually if the nappy feels full, if we are going on a long walk or drive or generally every 4 hours or so.

Guna100 · 18/05/2018 14:40

Generally every 3/4 hours but I will change more frequently if her nappy is full. Def not every hour!!! It’s bad for bank balance, environment and I really don’t think it’s needed!! Always change a dirty nappy straight away.

ethelfleda · 18/05/2018 14:47

6 month old here and about every 3hours unless he is asleep. And one nappy for night time since he was about 3 months! Never had a stick of nappy rash.
Every hour is crazy! I usually see if his bits seem wet when I change him to make sure it's often enough and they never do. Nappies are really absorbent these days!
And of course we change him as soon as poss after no.2!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 18/05/2018 14:47

I changed them when they needed changing Confused how odd of your partner!

CottonSock · 18/05/2018 14:49

Not very often now she is a toddler

MrsPreston11 · 18/05/2018 14:50

Been a few years but. Change after a poo, and then when it's feeling squishy. Can't stand seeing a full up wee nappy! Blergh.

0lgaDaPolga · 18/05/2018 15:09

Wow that is so many nappies! My ds is 11 months and I change his roughly every 3-4 hours in the day. He doesn’t get a nappy change overnight from 7-7 and he’s never had a nappy rash

CheshireChat · 18/05/2018 15:12

A bit aside, my DS would have been furious to be bothered every hour to be changed, but I recall he hated nappy changes at that age

CoupleOfPushBacks · 18/05/2018 15:12

I will change my DS when it's absolutely necessary I.e poo & full nappy.

He screams the place down so I certainly won't be changing it when not needed!

Kingsclerelass · 18/05/2018 15:15

I wouldn’t moan. My ex wouldn’t change a nappy at all if I was due back home anytime in the next four hours. Grin
