Do you have a veg bowl?

My cousin has made fun of my veg bowl. Apparently I’m the only person she knows who has one!

I keep veg that doesn’t need to be kept cold in there, as my fridge would be too full for other things.

Am I weird?? Do you have one???

A veg bowl sounds very sensible.

I have a basket that lives in a cupboard.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 17/05/2018 14:26

I have one for onions and potatoes

Seeline · 17/05/2018 14:27

I have veg drawers in a cupboard (wire baskets on runners) I keep fruit in there too.

FurryDogMother · 17/05/2018 14:35

I've got a 3 tier veg rack for the onions, potatoes and other 'doesn't need to be in the fridge' stuff.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/05/2018 14:35

Trug here, under the sink.

stickygotstuck · 17/05/2018 14:35

I have a large plastic basket on legs thing for all that stuff. It lives on the kitchen counter. But you gave me a great idea, OP.

Off to putt some washed veg out with the fruit in the fruit bowl! Both DD and I prefer veg to fruit. Now how handy would it be to have some ready washed carrots and bits of broccoli nicely laid out in said bowl (rather than random dishes of veg left out next to it)?

Genius! Thanks OP!

eightfacesofthemoon · 17/05/2018 14:40

It’s normal
I have one
Onions/garlic etc

CaliforniaDream · 17/05/2018 14:43

I have a wooden veg crate. Some veg shouldn't be kept in the fridge! All my tatties, onions, tomatoes etc go in the crate.

Pfftlife · 17/05/2018 14:43

I have a garlic and avocado bowl 😎 all the veg gets thrown in a wooden crate I have on a shelve. Don't think I've got a bowl big enough for my tatties Grin

Storm4star · 17/05/2018 14:43

How do your potato’s/onions stay fresh? Maybe it’s because I mainly cook for just me but if I leave potato’s or onions out of the fridge (and I also tried keeping them in a dark cupboard) they just sprout and I end up throwing them away.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/05/2018 14:46

I've got a fruit bowl and two veg bowls. Where else do people keep veg? I keep salad in the fridge but there's not room for all of it and not everything needs to be cold.

She's weird. She's missing out.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/05/2018 14:47

Where do you keep the crate @CaliforniaDream? I like the idea of that.

My long term plan is a small under-stair pantry, but we're not there yet.

KirstenRaymonde · 17/05/2018 14:49

I think that’s very sensible. I have a pantry cupboard for cold dark stuff and two fridges for everything else. I don’t have a fruit bowl either though, I don’t eat much fruit and what we do have lives in the fridge.

bluerunningshoes · 17/05/2018 14:49

normal
we have baskets though so they can 'breathe' and don't go mushy.

Stompythedinosaur · 17/05/2018 14:56

I have a veg bowl! Do ridicules it but I knew it was a normalish thing to have!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/05/2018 15:10

Oh thank god. Come to think of it all if my friends keep there’s in the fridge too!

I love my veg bowl.

Magpiefeather · 17/05/2018 15:13

Yep got a veg bowl and also an ikea plastic tub thing in the cupboard for potatoes and onions. Come to think of it I don’t know why I keep those separately... I maybe think they like it better in the dark?!

youwouldthink · 17/05/2018 15:21

Same. . Veg baskets in the larder. Salad stuff in the fridge except tomatoes.

Forgottencoffee · 17/05/2018 15:36

I do. I forget it's in the fridge otherwise where it will turn mouldy and disgusting. I think it's an eye sore but it's necessary

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 17/05/2018 21:18

I have a veg drawer for tatties and a veg basket tiered thing in the utility room for onions garlic etc.

Pp you should NEVER keep potatoes in the fridge. It's makes them toxic. (And taste rubbish).

Zoflorabore · 17/05/2018 21:20

I have a huge cupboard under the stairs and I have made it into a pantry with my fridge/freezer/cereal and loads of other stuff in there but I have a veg basket, does that count? Grin

ToadOfSadness · 17/05/2018 21:25

My potatoes are in a potato store basket, onions in a bowl, carrots in foil in the fridge as they last longer that way.

Garlic is popped into the potato basket.I keep a tea towel over the open bit to stop the light getting in.

Leeks, cauliflower, cabbage etc. in fridge.

Do you have a veg bowl?
Crispbutty · 17/05/2018 21:27

I have a three tier veg rack although one tier is full of carrier bags

frieda909 · 17/05/2018 21:28

I have a veg Tupperware (without its lid) for potatoes, onions and garlic. Now I feel I should buy a nice bowl instead!

minniemummy0 · 17/05/2018 21:37

You aren’t supposed to keep tomatoes in the fridge?????? We keep salad things in the fridge, potatoes, onions and garlic in a drawer.
