Butlins and chickenpox

Hi everyone,

Due to go Butlins on Friday for the weekend with our friends and their children.

My dd age 2 came down with chicken pox last Friday she hasn't been ill with it at all and the spots have all crusted over now so no blisters at all wibu to continue with our plans and go to Butlins as normal? It's actually part of dd birthday as her birthday is the weekend after but we got an amazingly cheap deal for this coming weekend.

Obviously I wouldn't take her swimming or anything.

Check the NHS website - it's no considered infectious after 5 days. I'd still go.

She is not infectious once all spots are crusted over so definitely go and enjoy the swimming too

NHS advice says 5 days/until the blisters have crusted over, so I'd have thought that you'd be absolutely fine by Friday. I think you're infectious from just before the spots come until they crust over, so I think you'd be fine to swim too.

Yeah i did take a look at that but just wondered what others opinions would be as Dd does still have very obvious spots shes not pickled but it's enough.

I wouldn’t swim for hygiene reasons but yeah I’d still go

You need to check with butlins before you leave as they are hot on illnesses nowadays.

Yes I won't be swimming to be honest the children we are going with aren't overly keen on swimming anyway so it won't be a big deal.

Yeah I’d go, we went to Center Parcs when DD2 was completely scabbed over. I thought we might get some shitty looks/comments but it was fine.

Check with butlins they are very hot on illness and confining people to apartments/making them leave to stop spread. It’s in their t&c’s.

I will give them a quick call and just make them aware id hate to ruin it for the others by driving all that way to get turned away.

Contagious Diseases & Illness
Should Butlin's become aware, or have reasonable grounds for suspicion, that a guest has contracted a contagious disease or illness that has the potential to infect a large number of people quickly; they and their party will be required to leave the resort. If this is not possible, then restrictions will be placed upon their activities and movements in order to prevent the disease or illness being transmitted to other guests. We are unable to offer any refund in such circumstances and strongly recommend that guests obtain suitable insurance prior to travel to cover any such eventuality.

Don't really know what to take from that as she won't be able to infect anyone as she will no longer be contagious. I will ring them better to be safe then sorry.

Money saving expert forum someone said they where asked for a doctors note to say the child was not contagious. It’s quite an ambiguous clause as a common cold is contagious.

Oh how ridiculous most normal people would not put others at risk if my dd had come out in chicken pox say tomorrow or Friday no way at all would I go and risk infecting other people. I will maybe call the docs as well see if the gp can scribble me something to take.

She won't be infectious! She would even be passed as fit to fly on an airplane (and they are super hot on chickenpox)

Go to Butlins and enjoy yourselves. If you are worried about being confronted get a doctor's note to say she is no longer infectious. Most surgerys charge around £15- £20 for a note.

It is. A quick google shows so many forum posts and news articles about people being kicked off or treated like leppers. One over a child being sick once as the parents asked for new bedding being how they where caught.

The amount of posts I've seen on here where people go to playcentres/school/holiday with CP shocked me. People are that stupid and do put others at risk.

She won't be infectious. Given the ridiculous policy though it might be worth getting a doc's note to be sure. But I'd go.

Don't call them (they'll tell you not to come) do get a dr's note so if they do say anything you are covered.
Butlins without swimming though? Really? Isn't the swimming a big part of the attraction? Mine would never give me another moment's peace until (and probably including) my deathbed if I took them to Butlin's without the swimming Grin

Dd has one chicken pox on her lip which hadnt fully crusted over because of drinking/licking her lips and I can't get a drs note maybe can get one tomorrow if it crusts over more between now and then no puss or anything. Don't particularly like this gp I've dealt with her before and found her very awkward.

My two came out in chicken pox day before we went to haven. We still went. They weren't too poorly and we didn't go swimming until the end of the week. A few funny looks but most were sympathetic that we had two of them covered in it 😂
