Butlins and chickenpox

Hi everyone,

Due to go Butlins on Friday for the weekend with our friends and their children.

My dd age 2 came down with chicken pox last Friday she hasn't been ill with it at all and the spots have all crusted over now so no blisters at all wibu to continue with our plans and go to Butlins as normal? It's actually part of dd birthday as her birthday is the weekend after but we got an amazingly cheap deal for this coming weekend.

Obviously I wouldn't take her swimming or anything.

Twoundertwox I’m not surprised you got some funny looks taking 2 contagious children on holiday potentially infecting everyone else there that hadnt already had it. Its incredibly irresponsible to take children away the day after the spots come out.

Twoundertwox

As long as you had your holiday then that is all that matters!! Don't worry that you could infect someone and they could actually die from the chickenpox virus. Or a baby could be born with severe disabilities. Just make sure you and your children have a lovely time.

Glad that the OP in question seems to actually care about other people.

And idiots like twoundertwox prove exactly why Butlins and places like that have these strict policies, as they should.

DD contracted CP from Butlins a couple of years ago. Another time a boy next to us in one of the venues vomitted everywhere and DH caught it the next day.

But OP, if they are crusted over, it should be absolutely fine. The actual spots seem to take ages to go.

I'm sorry twoundertwox but I have to agree with the pp here very irrisponsibal of you chicken pox can be very dangerous for some people especially pregnant women and their unborn children.

If there was any doubt in my mind that dd was still infectious I could never take her to a enclosed place like that I've fully inspected her tonight to make absolute sure each and every one is crusted over and thank god they are. As a group we have decided we won't be swimming and I'm going to try the gp again in the morning for a note.

Twounderbox

That was very irresponsible.

OP, great that they have crusted over, hope you go and have a great time.

GreenMeerkat · 18/05/2018 09:48

Yes still take her but maybe try and get a doctor's note. My girls both got chicken pox quite badly about 8 weeks ago and some of the spots are still visible so the spots can hang around for months after the virus has cleared up and they are no longer contagious so they would be daft to not let you go!

GreenMeerkat · 18/05/2018 09:50

and yes, I would be absolutely raging if some irresponsible parent took their contagious kids on holiday and ruined ours by making our children poorly. Not cool Twoundertwox

Mummyduck10 · 18/05/2018 10:53

Thanks everyone trying for another appointment now but if not I will just go and hope for the best and if Butlins ask about it I will simply explain my case you can clearly see they are crusted over so i think it will be fine.
