I’m not much of a drinker but have my best friend’s hen night this weekend and then also a christening the next day where I’m being named Godparent.

I can see what’s going to happen.

Aside from water between drinks what can I do to mitigate the damage???

And yes, of course I could choose not to drink etc but I’m being honest with myself and accepting my weaknesses.

Help?

I drink a pint of water when I get home and take a couple of paracetamol before I fall get into bed. I keep a glass of water by my bed and sip it whenever I wake during the night. Then a couple of ibuprofen as soon as I open my eyes the next morning. Seems to do the trick.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 15/05/2018 22:41

Painkillers before bed. Then in the morning a bacon sandwich and a can of full fat Coke. Nothing else works like it.

Monomynous · 15/05/2018 22:41

I have a berocca and two dissolvable paracetamol for my first drink the next morning. Quite refreshing and medicinal!

lastqueenofscotland · 15/05/2018 22:41

Full fat coke

WeWere0nABreak · 15/05/2018 22:43

Full sugar Coke and salt and vinegar crisps!

Puffycat · 15/05/2018 22:44

Lots and lots of lucazade, not good long term cos of the calories but glucose and fluid will do the trick 😉

Lookatmeimsandradeeee · 15/05/2018 22:44

Thanks all!! I’m making a shopping list.

Bacon
Ibuprofen
Lots of coke (full fat)
Berrocca (is this better than the fizzy vit C? Never had it??)
Paracetamol

Water I’ll obvs get from tap.

Shitting it I’ll puke in the font.

Lemonade has been voted the top drink for the morning after!

Lookatmeimsandradeeee · 15/05/2018 22:45

Ooh cross post - lucozade and a&e crisps on the list!

A Bloody Mary. Have sworn by it as a hangover remedy for years (as long as there's no driving involved!).

Odoreida · 15/05/2018 22:45

Water and lots of calorific, nutritious food. make sure your house is full of sliced bread for toast, peanut butter, bananas or whatever gets you going. Massive coffee to start your ahem digestion going and you will be fine. Enjoy your celebrations!

Lookatmeimsandradeeee · 15/05/2018 22:45

Hahaha s&v clearly! Hopefully a&e won’t be involved....

Never had a Bloody Mary. Is this really a good time to try it do you think???

Stick to one type of drink, clear fluids are better. Stay away from too much sugar when you’re drinking that night...

Two paracetamol and a pint of water before bed, water available if you wake up in the night (rather than hauling yourself to the kitchen for another glass in the middle of the night!) and more painkillers in the morning if need be.

First tips might be a myth but seems to work for me!

liz70 · 15/05/2018 22:47

Avoid any dark drinks e.g. red wine, brandy etc. They always seemed to make worse hangovers for me, at any rate.

waxy1 · 15/05/2018 22:48

Your headache pill of choice before drinking and again before sleeping.

Also put Angostura Bitters in some of your drinks.

Lookatmeimsandradeeee · 15/05/2018 22:50

Stick to one drink - I like the principle. I just don’t know if in principle jaegerbombs will benefit me in that way - she is an absolute jaeger fiend and I effing hate them, but her night, her rules, whatever she wants to do......

I’m sweating thinking about it actually. I’m worried that even after an hour in the shower In the morning I’ll stink of booze.

Plenty of water before, during and after.
My go to hang over cure is trifle, preferably homemade, although I understand that there is a protein in eggs which helps.

Lookatmeimsandradeeee · 15/05/2018 22:52

Waxy! I used to love that stuff with vodka and lemonade when I was younger! Is it meant to be good like that then?? I had no idea - off to google it

Do you know any medics/nurses ?(serious question)
If not, avoid as many shots as you can - it's the shots that will kill you.
Hydra lite (will be called something else in the uk, you take it when you have gastro)
Take it when you get in and again in the morning. Replaces all the lost salt and sugars.
Get anti sickness meds from the chemist, so even if you feel sick you won't be sick.
Water, water, water.
Rescue remedy - for the nerves. Beer fear.
Get up shower. (Hot)
Get outside for a run, or brisk walk. This will help the blood move around your body, endorphins will give you a boost.
Have sex? (Orgasm) endorphins again.
Eat something plain and salty. Toast, crackers, crisps. Banana.
Water, water, water
And another shower (cool)
Make up, hair and put a brave face on !

ToothyMcPuthy · 15/05/2018 23:23

A dioralyte when you get home. I swear this works.

sarcasmisnotthelowestformofwit · 16/05/2018 09:25

Paracetamol before you go out
Eat stodgy carbs before drinking
One drink then one glass of water. All night.
Water when you get home with milk thistle tablets
Water through the night
Litre of water when you wake up
Chicken and mushroom pot noodle.

I'm a pro!

Tryagaintomorrow · 16/05/2018 09:32

Ibuprofen for the head
Really cold things - ie twister lollies are my weapon of choice!
It sends me the wrong way if I eat too much so just pace yourself on the food.
Just in general not getting too hot usually helps.

But really hair of the dog really is the best!

bassackwards · 16/05/2018 09:38

Some good recommendations on here. If I could make just one: EAT before and during the boozing.

Ikabod · 16/05/2018 10:00

@ToothyMcPuthy I was going to recommend dioralyte too. With a Berocca for good measure.
Berocca with Alka Selzer XS is also pretty good, but the Dioralyte helps you to rehydrate quickly.
